[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he mentioned the hadith and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not intend to engage in a battle except to proceed towards another one."
Whenever Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to carry out a Ghazwa, he would use an equivocation to conceal his real destination till it was the Ghazwa of Tabuk which Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried out in very hot weather. As he was going to face a very long journey through a wasteland and was to meet and attack a large number of enemies. So, he made the situation clear to the Muslims so that they might prepare themselves accordingly and get ready to conquer their enemy. The Prophet ﷺ informed them of the destination he was heading for. (Using translation from Bukhārī 2948)
When the Prophet ﷺ intended to go on an expedition, he always pretended to be going somewhere else, and he would say: War is deception. Abu Dawud said: Only Ma'mar has transmitted this tradition. By this he refers to his statement "War is deception" through this chain of narrators. He narrated it from the tradition of 'Amr b. Dinar from Jabir, and from the tradition of Ma'mar from Hammam b. Munabbih on the authority of Abu Hurairah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2637)
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, that he called war "deception".
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Khaybar, Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Ilāṭ said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have wealth in Makkah and I have family there. I want to go to them, and if I receive anything from you, then I am in a state of permission." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission to say whatever he wanted. He then went to his wife when he arrived and said, "Gather for me whatever you have of jewelry or goods, for I want to buy from the spoils of Muhammad and his Companions, as they have been made lawful and their wealth has been distributed." The news spread in Makkah, and the Muslims were suppressed while the polytheists were joyful. The news reached Al-'Abbās ibn 'Abdul-Muṭṭalib and he became distressed, unable to stand. Ma'mar reported to me from 'Uthmān al-Jazarī, who said, "Al-'Abbās took his son, Qutham, and sat him down on his lap, saying, "My beloved Qutham, who resembles the Prophet in looks and features, and possesses the blessings. Whoever claims otherwise, let him claim!" Ma'mar said: Sābit narrated to me from Anas in his narration that Al-'Abbās sent his young slave to Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Ilāṭ and said, "Woe to you! What have you brought and what do you say?" Al-Hajjaj said, "Read to your master Abu Al-Faḍl the greetings from me and tell him to allow me in some of his houses so that I may come to him. The news has reached him, and it is as he would wish." So his slave came and when he reached the door of the house, he said, "Rejoice, O Abu Al-Faḍl!" Al-'Abbās jumped up in joy until he kissed him between the eyes, and he told him what Al-Hajjaj had said. Thus, Al-Hajjaj was freed by him. Then Al-Hajjaj came to him and told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had conquered Khaybar, and their wealth had been taken and Allah's arrows had been shot at it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had chosen Safiyyah bint Ḥuyayy for himself. He gave her the option to be freed and become his wife or to return to her people, and she chose to be freed and become his wife. However, I have come for the wealth that I had here. I wanted to collect it, so I sought permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he gave me permission to say what I wanted. So keep it a secret from me three times, and then mention what is apparent to you." He said, "So his wife gathered whatever she had of jewelry or goods and gave it to him. He continued with it until after three days, Al-'Abbās came to the wife of Al-Ḥajjaj, asking her, "What did your husband do?" She informed him that he had gone a few days ago and said, "Do not be saddened, O Abu Al-Faḍl, for what has reached you. He said, "Yes, by Allah! I am not saddened. Allah has never bestowed any merit upon us except that which we love. Allah has opened the spoils of Khaybar to His Messenger ﷺ and His arrows have been shot at them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has chosen Safiyyah for himself. If you have any need for your husband, then join him." She said, "I believe you, by Allah, to be truthful." He said, "Indeed, I am truthful, and the matter is as I have informed you." He then went until he reached a gathering of Quraysh who were saying, "Whenever Al-Ḥajjaj passes by, only goodness comes to you, O Abu Al-Faḍl!" He said, "Nothing comes to me except goodness, by the praise of Allah. Al-Ḥajjaj ibn 'Ilāṭ has informed me that Khaybar has been opened by Allah to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and Allah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, bless my Ummah in its early morning." He ﷺ used to send forth a military expedition at the beginning of the day, and there was a man who was a merchant with a lot of wealth, and he would send his servants at the beginning of the day. His wealth increased so much that he didn't know where to put it. The wording of this hadith is from Abu Dawud.

When the people encamped, (the narrator Amr ibn Uthman al-Himsi) said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encamped, the people scattered in the glens and wadis. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Your scattering in these glens and wadis is only of the devil. They afterwards kept close together when they encamped to such an extent that it used to be said that if a cloth were spread over them, it would cover them all. [Machine] I participated in a battle with the Prophet ﷺ called such and such. The people became restricted in their dwellings and the road was cut off. So, the Prophet ﷺ sent a caller to announce to the people that anyone who restricts dwellings or cuts off a road will have no reward in jihad. Abu Abdullah Ishaq ibn Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Susi informed us, Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm informed us, Muhammad ibn Auf informed us, Abu al-Mughira informed us, al-Awza'i narrated to me, Usayd ibn Abdul Rahman narrated from a man from Juhayna from his father from the Prophet ﷺ with a similar narration. And Baqiyya narrated it from al-Awza'i from Usayd from Ibn Mujahid from Sahl ibn Mu'adh from his father who said, "We participated in a battle with the Prophet ﷺ, and he informed us in a similar way." Abu Ali al-Rudhbari conveyed to us, who informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Dasa narrated to us, who informed us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, who informed us, Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, who informed us, Baqiyya from al-Awza'i mentioned it.

(the freed slave of 'Umar bin 'Ubaidullah) I was Umar's clerk. Once Abdullah bin Abi Aufa wrote a letter to 'Umar when he proceeded to Al-Haruriya. I read in it that Messenger of Allah ﷺ in one of his military expeditions against the enemy, waited till the sun declined and then he got up amongst the people saying, "O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for safety, but when you face the enemy, be patient, and remember that Paradise is under the shades of swords." Then he said, "O Allah, the Revealer of the Holy Book, and the Mover of the clouds and the Defeater of the clans, defeat them, and grant us victory over them." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3024)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to move his lips with something that could not be understood, so we said, "O Messenger of Allah, you move your lips with something that cannot be understood." It was said to him, 'Choose between your companions that we inflict upon them an enemy who would kill them, or famine, or death.' So he gave them the choice and they chose death. Some of them died within three days, seventy thousand in total. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'And I say, O Allah, with You I fight, with You I strive, and with You I undertake, and there is no power or strength except with You, and all the supplications that have been mentioned before in this are mentioned in the Book of Hajj and the Book of Invocations.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , arrived in Khaibar in the morning, while they were preparing for battle. When they saw the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , they hurried towards the fortress, saying, "Muhammad and the army arrived." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , raised his hands and exclaimed, "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the greatest) three times. Khaibar is destroyed! When we descend upon a people's land, it is a bad morning for those who have been warned.

[Machine] We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he narrated the hadith in detail. During the time when they attacked the camp of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "Then I stood on a hill and faced the city. I called out in three different voices, 'O morning!' Then I went in pursuit of the enemy, shooting them with arrows and reciting poetry. I am the son of Akwa' and today is the day of breastfeeding.'" He continued, "We then went to Khaybar and my uncle Amr said, 'By Allah, if it were not for Allah, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity or prayed. We would not be independent of Your bounty. So, make our feet firm if we meet the enemy and send down tranquility upon us.'" The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Who is this?" They said, "Amr." The Prophet ﷺ said, "May your Lord forgive you." Then, when we arrived at Khaybar, Marhab came out with his sword, saying, "Khaybar has known that I am Marhab, the armed hero, the brave warrior. If wars advance and flare up, I am the tested champion." Amr confronted him and said, "Khaybar has known that I am Amr, the armed hero, the daring warrior." Then the hadith mentions the return of Amr's sword, his encounter with Ali, his recitation of poetry, his punishment and killing.

If the people bring forth and tighten the reins, why do I sense that you dislike Paradise? You have been content for so long. Are you nothing more than a drop in the ocean?' Ibn Ishaq said, 'He also said, oh my soul, don't allow yourself to be killed, for you will die. This is the bath of death, and I have prayed and desired. Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not flee, but his young unarmed companions passed by the archers of the tribe of Hawazin and Bani Nasr whose arrows hardly missed a target, and they threw arrows at them hardly missing a shot. So the Muslims retreated towards the Prophet ﷺ while he was riding his white mule which was being led by his cousin Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith bin ʿAbdul Muttalib. Allah has undertaken to look after the affairs of one who goes out to fight in His way believing in Him and affirming the truth of His Apostles. He is committed to His care that Re will either admit him to Paradise or bring him back to his home from where he set out with a reward or (his share of) booty. By the Being in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad. If a person gets wounded in the way of Allah, he will come on the Day of Judgment with his wound in the same condition as it was when it was first inflicted; its colour being the colour of blood but its smell will be the smell of musk. By, the Being in Whose Hand is Muhammad's life, if it were not to be too hard upon the Muslime. I would not lag behind any expedition which is going to fight in the cause of Allah. But I do not have abundant means to provide them (the Mujahids) with riding beasts, nor have they (i. e. all of them) abundant means (to provide themselves with all the means of Jihad) so that they could he left behind. By the Being in Whose Hand is Muhammad's life, I love to fight in the way of Allah and be killed, to fight and again be killed and to fight again and be killed. (Using translation from Muslim 1876a)

[Machine] And from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if it were not difficult for the believers, I would have sat on a military expedition to fight in the cause of Allah. But I do not find the means to carry them and they do not find the means to follow me, and their souls are not content to stay behind after me."
[Machine] "And the Prophet ﷺ said: By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I would love to fight in the cause of Allah, be killed, then brought back to life, be killed again, then brought back to life, be killed again, then be brought back to life, and be killed again. Abu Hurairah would say: I bear witness that the first statement is true."
A man came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward)." He replied, "I do not find such a deed." Then he added, "Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast?" The man said, "But who can do that?" Abu- Huraira added, "The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2785)
[Machine] They said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us what is equivalent to jihad in the way of Allah." He said, "Indeed, you are not able." We said, "Yes, we can." He said, "Indeed, you are not able." He said, "So I do not know, is it the third or the fourth? The example of the Mujahid in the way of Allah is like that of the fasting, standing, obedient to the verses of Allah. He does not miss a prayer or fasting until the Mujahid returns to his family."
As I was (sitting) near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man said: I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed (except) distributing drinking water among the pilgrims. Another said: I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed beyond maintenance service to the Sacred Mosque. Another said: Jihad in the way of Allah is better than what you have said. 'Umar reprimanded them and said: Don't raise your voices near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on Friday. When prayer was over, I entered (the apartment of the Holy Prophet) and asked his verdict about the matter in which they had differed. (It was upon this that) Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, revealed the Qur'anic verse:" Do you make the giving of drinking water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to (the service of those) who believe in Allah and the Last Day and strive hard in the cause of Allah. They are not equal in the sight of God. And Allah guides not the wrongdoing people" (ix. 20). (Using translation from Muslim 1879a)

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "The space of a whip in Paradise is better than the world and everything in it. The morning journey that a servant embarks upon in the path of Allah is better than the world and everything in it. And the smell in Paradise is better than the world and everything in it."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered for a secret military expedition to be carried out. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, should we go out tonight or should we stay until morning?" He replied, "Don't you want to spend the night in a garden from the gardens of Paradise?"

Abu Saʿid, whoever cheerfully accepts Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion and Muhammad as his Apostle is necessarily entitled to enter Paradise. He (Abu Saʿid) wondered at it and said: Messenger of Allah, repeat it for me. He (the Messenger of Allah) did that and said: There is another act which elevates the position of a man in Paradise to a grade one hundred (higher), and the elevation between one grade and the other is equal to the height of the heaven from the earth. He (Abu Saʿid) said: What is that act? He replied: Jihad in the way of Allah! Jihad in the way of Allah! (Using translation from Muslim 1884)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Messenger, establishes prayer, gives zakat, and fasts in Ramadan, it is the right of Allah to admit him into Paradise, whether he migrated in the path of Allah or died in his birthplace." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, should we not inform the people about this?" He said, "In Paradise, there are one hundred degrees between each two degrees, as there is between the heaven and the earth. Allah has prepared it for the mujahideen in His cause. So, when you ask Allah, ask for Al-Firdaus, for it is the middle and highest part of Paradise, and from it, the rivers of Paradise gush forth, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful. He said, "And Abu Al-Azhar narrated to us, Yunus bin Muhammad narrated to us. He said, "So, Fuwlayh narrated to us this Hadith, from Hilal bin Ali, from 'Ata' bin Yasar, from Abu Hurairah, in a similar manner, and he did not have any doubt."

Or a man in a spoils of war in the forefront of the battlefield or in the depths of a valley, establishing prayer, giving zakat, and worshiping his Lord until certainty comes to him. There is no one among people except that they are in goodness."

The Prophet ﷺ said, " Let the slave of Dinar and Dirham, of Quantify and Khamisa perish as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased. Let such a person perish and relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, let him not find anyone to take it out for him. Paradise is for him who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust: if he is appointed in the vanguard, he is perfectly satisfied with his post of guarding, and if he is appointed in the rearward, he accepts his post with satisfaction; (he is so simple and unambiguous that) if he asks for permission he is not permitted, and if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted." [Machine] Some of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "If we were to send someone to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to ask him about the most beloved deeds to Allah, none of us would go, so we decided to ask him about that." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then called those men one by one until he gathered them, and then this Surah (Chapter) was revealed to them: "Glorify the name of your Lord" (Surah al-Inshirah). Abdullah ibn Salam recited the entire Surah to us as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had recited it to him. Abu Salamah also recited the entire Surah to us as Abdullah ibn Salam had recited it to him. Yahya ibn Abi Kathir also recited the entire Surah to us as Abu Salamah had recited it to him. Al-Awza'i also recited the entire Surah to us as Yahya had recited it to him. [Machine] We gathered and discussed, then we asked each other, "Which of you will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him which deeds are most beloved to Allah?" One of us volunteered to go, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for us. We gathered and he motioned for some of us to come closer to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then recited to us from the beginning of the surah until the end: "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High, Who has created and proportioned, and Who has destined and [then] guided, and Who brings out the pasture, and [then] makes it black stubble. We then [continued to] hold discussions regarding the recitation. Yahya (one of the narrators) then recited the surah to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Salamah then recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Abdullah ibn Salam recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Al-Awza'i then recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Ishaq also recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Muawiyah then recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Bakr As-Saghanin then recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Abbas said: As-Saghanin did not recite the entire surah to us but recited a portion from the beginning. The Qadi (judge) also recited a portion from the beginning. Abu Abdullah (a narrator) preserved the entire surah for us from the beginning to the end. Finally, the sheikh recited it to us from the beginning to the end.

[Machine] Narrated by Abu Dharr, I had a strong desire to meet the Prophet, so I met him and said, "O Abu Dharr, he used to inform me about you. I had a strong desire to meet you." He replied, "May Allah be your Guardian, you have indeed met me. So what news did you receive that you convey to us?" I said, "I received a narration that you mentioned that Allah loves three things and dislikes three things." He said, "What hinders me from speaking the truth about my dear friend, the Prophet?" I asked, "So who are the three that Allah loves?" He replied, "A man who confronts the enemy and fights for the sake of Allah, and indeed, you will find this in the Book, 'Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row.' (Quran 61:4)" I inquired, "And who else?" He said, "A person who has an evil neighbor, but endures his harm, and Allah suffices him either in his life or in his death." I asked, "And who else?" He replied, "A man who is on a journey with a group of people. They stop to rest, and are afflicted with fatigue and drowsiness, so they lay their heads down to sleep. One of them wakes up and performs ablution for the sake and pleasure of Allah, then he stands up in prayer." I questioned, "So who are the three that Allah dislikes?" He answered, "The mischievous miser, the proud arrogant person, and indeed, you will find this in the Book, 'Indeed, Allah does not love everyone self-deluded and boastful.' (Quran 31:18)" I asked, "So who is the third?" He replied, "The dishonest merchant or the seller of false goods."

"in the year of Tabuk, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people, while leaning against his mount. He said: 'Shall I not tell you of the best of the people and the worst of the people? Among the best of the people is a man who strives in the cause of Allah on the back of his horse, or on the back of his camel, or on his own two feet, until death comes to him. And among the worst of the people, is an immoral man (Fajir) who reads the Book of Allah but he does not refrain from doing anything bad because of it.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3106)
