[Machine] About his father who had witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said that he had observed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a night of prayer, during which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept vigil until dawn. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, Khubbab came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my father and mother, you have prayed tonight a prayer that I have never seen you pray before." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, it was a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord three things in it, and He gave me two and denied me one. I asked my Lord that He does not destroy us as He destroyed the previous nations, and He granted me that. I asked my Lord that He does not expose us to an enemy other than ourselves, and He granted me that. And I asked my Lord that He does not divide us into sects, and He denied me that."

I would definitely watch at night the prayer observed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He prayed two short rak'ahs, then two long, long, long rak'ahs, then he prayed two rak'ahs which were shorter than the two preceding rak'ahs, then he prayed two rak'ahs which were shorter than the two preceding, then he prayed two rak'ahs which were shorter than the two preceding, then observed a single one (Witr), making a total of thirteen rak'ahs (Using translation from Muslim 765)

That he spent a night with Maimunah, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who was also his (Ibn 'Abbas's) maternal aunt. I lay towards the width of the pillow and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife slept towards its length. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept. When half the night passed, or a little before it or a little after it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ awoke and began to rub his face (eyes) to remove the sleep. He then recited ten verses from the last part of Surah 'Al-Imran. Hen then came to a bag of water that was hanging. He performed ablution from it and performed his ablution well. He then stood up and prayed. I also got up and did as he did. I then went and stood at his side. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his right hand upon my head and took me by my ear twisting it. He then prayed two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs. The narrator al-Qa'nabi said: Six times. He observed the witr prayer, and then slept until the mu'adhdhin came. He got up and prayed two light rak'ahs and then came out and offered the dawn prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1367)

How would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray during the night ? He replied: I spent a night with him when he was with Maimunah. He slept and awoke when half the night or one-third of it had passed. He stood up and went to a leather bad containing water. He performed ablution and I also performed ablution with him. He then stood up and I also stood at his left side. He made me stand at his right side. He then put his hand upon my head, as he was touching my ear and awakening me. He then prayed two light rak'ahs and recited Surah al-Fatihah in each of them, and uttered the salutation. He then prayed eleven rak'ahs observing the witr and slept. Then Bilal came to him and said: Prayer, Messenger of Allah. He got up and prayed two rak'ahs, and then led the people in the prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1364)

[Machine] My father sent me to the Prophet ﷺ with a gift of camels from the charity. When I arrived, it was the blessed night and Maymuna, the aunt of Ibn Abbas, was with him. He went to the mosque and prayed night prayers, then he came and took off his clothes and entered with his wife in her clothes. I took off my clothes and put them under me, then I lied down on them. I said, "I will not sleep tonight until I see what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ does." He slept until he snored and Allah willed that the night passed away, then he got up and left. He saw a water container and put it in a low place and poured water on his hands, then he rinsed his mouth. He washed his hands and face, then he performed ablution until he finished. I wanted to get up and pour water on him, but I was afraid that he would leave the night for me, so he stood up to pray. I got up and did the same as he did, then I came to him and stood to his left, so he took me by the hand and stood me to his right. He prayed thirteen units of prayer, then he lied down until Bilal came and called for prayer. He stood up and performed two units of prayer before dawn." Sa`eed ibn Jubayr disputed with him.
