23. Book of Quranic Exegesis (Tafsīr) (18/23)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
We have begun in this book with the descent of the Quran, in what has been narrated in the Musnad concerning the recitations, and the mention of the companions who compiled and memorized the Quran, before the interpretation of the Surahs.
[Machine] "O Abu Abdullah, I swear by Allah, I have come to seek your guidance and follow your example in dealing with division among people. I intend to distance myself from evil as much as I can and to ponder upon a specific verse from the Book of Allah that has deeply affected my heart. Please inform me about it. Have you heard the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.' (Quran, Al-Hujurat 49:9)? Tell me about this verse." Abdullah bin Umar replied, "What concern do you have with it? Leave me alone." The man then got up and left. As soon as he disappeared, Abdullah bin Umar came back to us and said, "I cannot find anything within myself that contradicts the meaning of this verse, other than the fact that I have not fought against these rebellious groups as Allah has commanded."
[Machine] In English, it translates to: "In the pre-Islamic era, titles were used. The Prophet ﷺ called a man by his title from among them, and it was said to him, 'O Messenger of Allah, he dislikes it.' So, Allah, the Almighty, revealed: 'And do not insult one another by offensive nicknames.' (Quran 49:11)"
[Machine] "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Verily, on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will say, "I commanded you with something, but you abandoned it and I raised your lineages. Today, I will raise my lineage and reduce your lineages. Where are the righteous ones? Where are the pious ones? Verily, the most honorable among you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you."
[Machine] He (Prophet Muhammad) recited Allah's saying, "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you" [Al-Hujurat 13]. He then said, "Verily Allah says on the Day of Resurrection, 'O people, I have made lineages and you have made lineages, so I have made the most honorable among you the most righteous among you.' And you refuse to say 'So-and-so is the son of so-and-so and he is more honorable than so-and-so's son.' And indeed, today I elevate my lineage and lower your lineages. Where are the righteous? Where are the righteous?" Talhah said, "Ata' said to me, 'O Talhah, how many names will be called on the Day of Resurrection along with mine and yours?' So when he is called, no one will rise except those whom Allah wills." (The content was omitted by Al-Dhahabi in his abridgement)
23.50 [Machine] Explanation of Surah Q
[Machine] "A mountain of emerald encircles the world, upon it lies the canopy of the sky." Golden remained silent about it in the summary.
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ recite in the morning prayer. When he reached this verse, "And by the date-palm trees, bearing clusters of dates" [Quran 50:10], Qutbah said, "I used to say to him, 'What does 'clusters' mean?' He replied, 'Its branches are long.' Muslim reported this hadith without mentioning the explanation of 'clusters' and it is authentic according to its conditions."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Ma'd is the son of Adnan, son of Addad, son of Zand, son of Barri, son of A'raq Ath-Thara." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited, "He destroyed 'Ad and Thamud and the people of Ar-Rass and many generations in between. None knows them except Allah." Umm Salamah said, "And A'raq Ath-Thara is Isma'il ibn Ibrahim, and Zand is the son of Humaysa', and Barri is Nabt."
[Machine] Regarding this verse: "Not a word does he utter but there is a watcher by him ready" [Quran 50:18], Ibn Abbas said: "Only the good and the evil are written. O boy, saddle the horse for me and O boy, give me water to drink. Only the good and the evil are written."
“I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was dying, and there was a bowl of water next to him. He put his hand in the vessel and wiped his face with the water, and said: ‘O Allah, help me to bear the agonies of death.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1623)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am the first from whom the Earth will split, then Abu Bakr, then Umar, then the people of Baqi' will be gathered with me, and then I will wait for the people of Makkah." Abdullah ibn Umar recited, "On the day the Earth will split open for them, it will be an easy gathering for us."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came to a man whose facial features showed signs of worry. He said to him, "Relax, for I am the son of a woman from the Quraysh tribe who used to eat dried meat in this barren land." Then, Jareer ibn Abdullah al-Bajali recited the verse, "And you are not over them a tyrant. But remind by the Qur'an whoever fears My threat." (Quran 45:18)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit the sick, attend funerals, accept the invitations of slaves and ride donkeys. On the day (of the battle) of Quraizah and Nadir, he was riding a donkey. On the day of Khaibar he was riding a donkey that was bridled with palmfibers and beneath him was a packsaddle made of palmfibers.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4178)
[Machine] The translation into English is: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit and visit the weak Muslims, go to their sick and witness their funerals.
23.51 [Machine] Interpretation of Surah Adh-Dhariyat
[Machine] "Do not ask me, and you will not ask anyone like me." Ibn Al-Kawwa stood up and said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, what are "Al-Dhariyat" [Verse 1]? He said, "The winds." He said, "Then what are "Al-Hamilaat" [Verse 2]? He said, "The clouds." He said, "Then what are "Al-Jariyat" [Verse 3]? He said, "The ships." He said, "Then what are "Al-Muqassimat" [Verse 4]? He said, "The angels." He said, "So who are "Alladhina baddaloo ni'mat Allahi kufran wa ahalloo qawmahum dar al-bawar jahannam" [Ibrahim 28]? He said, "The hypocrites of Quraysh."
[Machine] Anas said regarding this verse: "They used to sleep very little during the night." [Adh-Dhariyat 17] He said, "They used to pray between 'Isha' (night prayer) and Maghrib (sunset prayer)."
[Machine] "Do not pass by them a night without their sleeping until they wake up to pray in it."
[Machine] One of the prayers of the Prophet ﷺ was: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of the wind and from the evil that comes with the wind, and from the wind of the north, for it is the barren wind."
23.52 [Machine] The Interpretation of Surah At-Tur.
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "The inhabited house in the seventh heaven is entered by seventy thousand angels every day, and they will never return to it until the Day of Judgment."
[Machine] "Indeed, Allah raises the ranks of the believing offspring with Him in Paradise, even if they are lower in deeds than Him." Then He recited: "And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything." (Surah At-Tur, 21) He (Al-Dhahabi) did not mention it in his summary.
23.53 [Machine] Interpretation of Surah An-Najm
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ prostrated in it, meaning the Night of Al-Qadr, and the Muslims prostrated in it, as well as the polytheists, humans, and jinn." This is confirmed as authentic according to Al-Bukhari's criteria, and it is not excluded by this context according to the criteria of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] About Abdullah's statement, may Allah be exalted, {The heart did not lie about what it saw} [Surah An-Najm: 11], he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw Gabriel in a form with his wings that filled the space between the heavens and the earth." This statement is considered authentic according to the conditions of the two Sheikhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim), but they didn't include it in their collections.
[Machine] "To be the companion for Ibrahim, the speech for Musa, and the vision for Muhammad ﷺ , and the blessings of Allah be upon them all."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary is of colossal size where a traveler would need one hundred years to cross the shade of its branches. It provides shade for a hundred riders and it has bed of gold."
[Machine] "He did not go right or left" {and he did not transgress} [Surah An-Najm 17] He said, "He did not exceed."
from Ibn 'Abbas (regarding this Ayah): Those who avoid great sins and Al-Fawahish except Al-Lamam (minor sins) (53:32). He said: "The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Your forgiveness, O Allah is so ample, and which of Your worshipers has not committed Al-Lamam (minor sins)!'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3284)
[Machine] Ishaq narrated from Abdul Razzaq, who narrated from Ma'mar, who narrated from Al-A'mash, who narrated from Abu Ad-Duha, who narrated from Masruq, that Ibn Mas'ud said regarding the verse {except for the occasional glance} [An-Najm 32]. He said, "Adultery of the eyes is looking, adultery of the lips is kissing, adultery of the hands is touching, adultery of the legs is walking, and the private parts either confirm or deny it. If one proceeds with his private part, then he is committing adultery. Otherwise, it is 'the occasional glance'."
Abu Huraira reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying. Allah fixed the very portion of adultery which a man will indulge in. There would be no escape from it. The adultery of the eye is the lustful look and the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (song or talk) and the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech and the adultery of the hand is the lustful grip (embrace) and the adultery of the feet is to walk (to the place) where he intends to commit adultery and the heart yearns and desires which he may or may not put into effect. He replied, 'Yes, and his family and loved ones who console and support each other during this time.' I then said, 'Glory be to Allah!' Allah Almighty said, 'And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.' (Surah Al-An'am 6:164).' He stated, 'Woe to you! 23.54 [Machine] Interpretation of Surah al-Qamar
[Machine] About Abdullah's statement in his words, may Allah be glorified and exalted: "And the moon split" [Surah Al-Qamar, verse 1]. He said, "I saw the moon split, and I saw the mountain between the two parts of the moon."
[Machine] "I saw the moon split into two halves twice in Makkah before the Prophet's ﷺ migration, with one half over Abu Qubays and the other half over the Suwayda." They said, "The moon is bewitched," then came the verse, "The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]." (Quran 54:1) He said, "Just as you saw it split, what I have informed you about the approaching Hour is true."
[Machine] "The moon split during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. And as for the narration of Abdullah son of Amr, it is authentic."
[Machine] This happened during the time of the Prophet ﷺ : The moon split into two halves, with one half on one side of the mountain and the other half behind the mountain. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah, bear witness." As for the hadith of Jubair, it is authentic.
[Machine] About his grandfather, in his saying "The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split" [Qamar 1], his grandfather said, "The moon split while we were in Makkah during the time of the Prophet ﷺ."
[Machine] The people of Makkah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a sign, so the moon split into two in Makkah twice. Allah Almighty said, "The Hour has come near, and the moon has split." (Quran, Surah Al-Qamar, 1). The two prominent scholars, Shu'bah and Qatadah, have agreed upon the narration of Shu'bah from Qatadah, who reported from Anas that the moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and they did not mention this event in the continuation of the narration reported by Ma'mar. This narration is authentic according to their conditions. In Sahihain (Bukhari and Muslim), there is a narration from Qatadah through Anas that the moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .

23.55 [Machine] Tafsir of Surah Al-Rahman
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited Surah Ar-Rahman to his companions until he finished, he said, "Why do I see you silent, as if you were the jinn responding better than you? Every time I recited a verse to them saying, 'So which of the favors of your Lord do you deny?' [Quran 55:13], they would reply, 'We deny none of Your blessings, O our Lord, and to You is the thanks.' This hadith is authentic according to the conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, and they did not include it in their collections."

[Machine] No one is named the Merciful except Him. This is an authentic chain of narration and it was not excluded from being authentic.

[Machine] "The star does not shine like the earth, and the tree does not stand on a leg." Authentic narration, and it was not weakened by Ibn Ma'een."
[Machine] "The poisons from which Allah created the jinn are a part of seventy parts of the fire of hell." It is an authentic narration according to the conditions of both Sheikhayn (referring to Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim), but they did not include it in their collections, according to the condition of Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] Indeed, among what Allah has created is a preserved Tablet made of white pearl, its covers are made of red ruby, its pen is light, and its written words are light. Every day, it is looked upon three hundred and sixty times or more. In each look, Allah creates, provides, gives life, causes death, honors, humiliates, and does whatever He wills. This is the saying of the Most High: "Every day, He is upon a matter." [Surah ar-Rahman 29] "Authentic chain of narrators, and they did not exclude it." The name of Abu Hamzah Thabit is mentioned, and he erred once.
