23. Book of Quranic Exegesis (Tafsīr)
[Machine] When the messenger of Allah ﷺ camped at Tabuk, he stood up and addressed the people saying, "O people, do not ask your Prophet about signs, for the people of a righteous community asked their Prophet to show them a sign, so Allah sent them a she-camel, and it used to come to them from a certain mountain and they would drink its water on the day of its turn, and they would drink from its milk as much as they wanted. But they transgressed the limits set by their Lord and killed it. So Allah promised them with a punishment for three days which was not seen before. Then the cry came upon them and Allah destroyed all those who were under the sky, from the east and the west, except for a man who was in the sanctuary of Allah and Allah protected him from His punishment." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah, who was that man?" He replied, "Abu Righal."
[Machine] Regarding the statement of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, "He knows its place of settlement and its repository" [Hud 6], Abdullah said: Its place of settlement is in the wombs and its repository is where it dies.
[Machine] According to His Statement, Mighty and Majestic is He, "And His Throne was upon the water" [Hud 7], Upon what was the water? He ﷺ said, "Upon the surface of the wind."
[Machine] A group entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they began to ask him, saying, "Give us until it becomes burdensome for you." And then another group came to him and said, "We have come to greet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and to seek knowledge in religion and to ask him about the beginning of this matter." He ﷺ said, "Allah existed and nothing else existed, and the Throne was above the water. He wrote in the Remembrance (the Preserved Tablet) everything, and then He created seven heavens." He ﷺ said, "Then a person came to him and said, 'Indeed, your camel has gone away.' So he said, 'I wish I had left it.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Anyone who hears about me from this nation, whether they be a Jew or a Christian, and does not believe in me, will enter the Fire." So I said, "Where is this mentioned in the Book of Allah?" Until I found this verse, "And whoever disbelieves in it from the factions - the Fire is his promised destination." [Hud 17] The factions refer to all religions.
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah were to show Mercy to anyone from among the nation of Nūḥ, he would show Mercy to Umm al-Ṣabī (mother of the young boy)." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Nūḥ remained with his nation for a thousand years save fifty inviting them ˹to the Message˺ until the end of his time. He planted trees and they became plentiful/large and they ˹grew˺ in all different ways. Then he cut them and began to make his ship. ˹The people˺ used to pass by and ask him ˹wondering˺ and he would say, 'I am making a ship.', and they would say, 'You're making a ship on land, how would it sail?' He said, 'You will soon find out.' When he was finished and 'fār al-tannūr' (commonly interpreted as the bursting of springs from the ground) and the flooding started in the pathways. Umm al-Ṣabī feared for ˹her child˺ and she loved him intensely. She left toward the mountain until she reached a narrow tract. When the water reach it she left from there until she settled on the mountain. When the water reached up to her neck, she lifted him in her arms until the water washed her away. So if Allah were to show Mercy to anyone among them, he would show Mercy to Umm al-Ṣabī."
[Machine] There were three hundred years between Noah and the destruction of his people. The furnace had already spread in India and Noah's ark circled around the Kaaba for a week.
[Machine] I heard Abu Dhar saying while he was holding onto the door of the Kaaba, "O people, whoever knows me, then I am the one who you know. And whoever denies me, then I am Abu Dhar." I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The example of my household is like the ark of Noah. Whoever boards it will be saved, and whoever turns away from it will drown."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Wadi Al-Azraq and asked, "What is this?" They said, "This is Wadi Al-Azraq." He then said, "It is as if I am seeing Musa ibn Imran coming down from it, wearing a worn-out garment, heading towards Allah while reciting the Takbir." Then he came to Thaniyyah and asked, "What is this Thaniyyah?" They said, "It is Thaniyyah such and such." He then said, "It is as if I am seeing Yunus ibn Matta riding on a red, curly-haired camel with a braided rein, and he is supplicating while wearing a woolen cloak."
“Abu Bakr [may Allah be pleased with him] said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! You have become gray.’ He said: ‘I have gone gray from (Surat) Hud, Al-Waqiʿah, Al-Mursalat and ʿAmma Yatasa'alun and Idhash-Shamsu Kuwwirat.’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3297)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ibrahim, the friend of Allah, was inspired with this Arabic language."
[Machine] About the saying of Allah the Almighty {May Allah's mercy, blessings and forgiveness be upon you, O people of the household}, Ibn Abbas said: I was with Abdullah bin Abbas when a man came to him and greeted him. I said: "And upon you be peace, mercy and blessings of Allah, and His forgiveness." Ibn Abbas responded, "You have reached a level that even the angels have reached."
[Machine] "These are my daughters, they are purer for you, so fear Allah and do not disgrace me in my guests." [Hud 78] They said: "We have no right in your daughters, you know what we desire." [Hud 79] He said: "If only I had power over you or could take refuge in a strong support." [Hud 80] Then Gabriel turned towards him, saying: "We are messengers of your Lord; they shall not reach you." [Hud 81] He said: Then he suddenly blinded them. They turned back, calling and riding one another until they returned to their people at the door. They said: "We have come to you from those sorcerers and our sight has been bewitched." So, they continued to ride one another until they entered the city. [Hud 82-83] Then the lie was exposed before them, and the guilty ones were killed. Some of them came to Mount Sinai and some of them were struck by a falling stone. [Hud 84] He left with his daughters, who were three, until they reached a place in Sham (Syria), where his eldest daughter died. There was a well known spring near her known as Al-Wariyah. He continued on his journey according to the will of Allah, and then his youngest daughter died near a spring called Ar-Ru'unah. Only the middle daughter remained.
The people saw fire (light) in the graveyard and they went there. They found that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a grave and he was saying: Give me your companion. This was a man who used to raise his voice while mentioning the name of Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3164)
