23.45 [Machine] Exegesis of Surah Ham Al-Jathiyah
[Machine] "From water, light, darkness, wind, and dust," said the man. "Then from what were they created?" He replied, "I do not know." Then the man went to Abdullah ibn Zubayr and asked him the same question. He replied with the same words as Abdullah ibn Umar, saying, "They were created from water, light, darkness, wind, and dust." The man asked, "Then from what were they created?" So Abdullah ibn Abbas recited, "And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth - all from Him." The man said, "We had only a person from the Prophet's household saying this."
[Machine] I heard Sufyan Ath-Thawri reciting the words of Allah Almighty: "Do those who commit evils think that We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge." (Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:21)
Then he said, "I heard Al-A'mash narrating from Abu Sufyan, who narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Every servant will be resurrected upon what he died upon.'"
This was informed to us by Abu Abdullah As-Saffar, who narrated from Ahmad ibn Mihran, who narrated from Abu Nuaim, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Al-A'mash, and he mentioned it.
[Machine] The man from the Arabs used to worship the stone, so whenever he found a better one, he would take it and throw away the old one. Allah, the Almighty, revealed, "Have you seen the one who has taken his desire as his God?" [Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:23].
[Machine] The people of the time of ignorance used to say, "Indeed, time is what destroys us, it is what kills us and brings us to life." Allah responded to their statement, and Az-Zuhri reported from Sa'id ibn Al-Musayyab, who reported from Abu Hurairah, who reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says, "The son of Adam abuses Me. He curses time, yet I am time, for I alter the day and the night. When I wish, I take them both away." Sufyan (another narrator) recited this verse (in response to their statement), "It is not but our worldly life; we die and live, but we will not be destroyed except by time." [Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:24] The two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) have agreed to include this narration without its context, and it is authentic according to their criteria.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah the Almighty said, 'I borrowed from My servant, but he refused to lend to Me, and he cursed Me, and he does not know what he is saying when he says, 'Waa Dahrāhu, Waa Dahrāhu' and I am the Dahr (Time or Eternity)."
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: The son of Adam causes Me pain as he says: Woe be upon the Time. None of you should say this: Woe be upon the Time, as I am the Time (because) I alternate the day and the night, and when I wish I can finish them up. (Using translation from Muslim 2246c)
[Machine] The first thing Allah created was the pen, He created it from light before the creation of the thousand and the letter "lam". The pen shaped itself into a form from light and it was said to it, "Write in the Preserved Tablet." The pen asked, "O Lord, what should I write?" He said, "Write everything that will happen until the Day of Judgment." So when Allah created the creation, He entrusted them to the keepers who would safeguard their actions. Then, on the Day of Judgment, their actions will be presented to them and it will be said, "This is our book that speaks about you with truth. Indeed, We used to record what you used to do." (Surah Al-Jathiyah, 45:29) The two books, the Preserved Tablet and the record of actions, will be presented equally. Ibn Abbas said, "Are you not Arabs? Could the copy (nuskha) be other than a book?"
