23. Book of Quranic Exegesis (Tafsīr) (10/23)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
We have begun in this book with the descent of the Quran, in what has been narrated in the Musnad concerning the recitations, and the mention of the companions who compiled and memorized the Quran, before the interpretation of the Surahs.
[Machine] Jacob was portrayed to him, so he hit his chest and his desire flowed from his fingers.
[Machine] Yusuf stumbled upon three incidents when he was accused of them and was imprisoned. His words to the man were, "Remember me before your master." (Yusuf 42) So, he remained in prison for a few years until the devil made him forget mentioning his Lord. His words to them were, "Indeed, you are thieves." (Yusuf 70)
[Machine] When they both narrated what they had seen and interpreted it, Prophet Yusuf ﷺ said, "One of you saw nothing, but as for the other, he said, 'Indeed, this is the interpretation of my dream.'"
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The honorable, the son of the honorable the son of the honorable, i.e. Joseph, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4688)
[Machine] "He made some men from the elite of the pre-Islamic era, and Omar said to him, 'Are you Joseph, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham?' He said, 'No,' he said, 'That is the son of the noble ones, and you are the son of the wicked. You are only counting on me the men of the people of Hellfire.'"
[Machine] "To me, O enemy of Allah and enemy of Islam, you have betrayed the wealth of Allah." He said, "I said, I am not an enemy of Allah or an enemy of Islam, but I am an enemy of those who oppose them. I did not betray the wealth of Allah, but they were the price of my camels and arrows that I gathered." He said, "So he returned it to me, and I returned the same words to him." He said, "So he fined me twelve thousand." He said, "So I stood up for the morning prayer, and I said, 'O Allah, forgive the leader of the believers.' After that, when he asked me to work, I refused. He said, 'Why, when Yusuf asked for work, and he was better than you?' So I said, 'Indeed, Yusuf was a Prophet, the son of a Prophet, the son of a Prophet, the son of a Prophet, and I am the son of Ummu-Ma'mar. And I fear three and two.' He said, 'Why don't you say five?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'What are they?' I said, 'I am afraid of speaking without knowledge, giving fatwa without knowledge, being struck on my back, my honor being insulted, and my wealth being taken by force.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jacob, the prophet, had a brother who was like a brother to me in Allah's sight. One day, he asked Jacob, 'What caused your vision to become weak and your back to arch?' Jacob said, 'As for the reason for my vision becoming weak, it is because of crying over Joseph, and as for the reason for my back arching, it is because of grieving over my son Benjamin.' Gabriel then came to him and said, 'Jacob, Allah sends His peace upon you and says, "Are you not ashamed to complain about Me to someone other than Me?"' Jacob said, 'I complain only to Allah about my anguish and sadness.' Gabriel said, 'I know what you complain about, Jacob.' Jacob said, 'My Lord, won't you have mercy on the elderly, as You have caused my vision to become weak and my back to arch? So send my fragrance back to me, so I may breathe it in before I die, and then do with me as You wish.' Then Gabriel came to him and said, 'Allah sends His peace upon you and tells you to be glad and to let your heart rejoice. By my honor, if both of them (Joseph and Benjamin) were dead, I would surely have revived them. So make food for the poor, for My beloved among my servants are the prophets and the poor. Do you not know why your vision became weak and your back arched, and why the brothers of Joseph did what they did? You had slaughtered a sheep while a poor orphan who was fasting was brought to you, and you did not feed him anything from it.' Jacob then, after that, whenever he wanted to have lunch, he would call out for someone to announce, 'Whoever wants lunch from the poor, let them eat with Jacob.' And when he would be fasting, he would call out for someone to announce, 'Whoever is fasting among the poor, let them break their fast with Jacob.'"
[Machine] From the Prophet of Allah ﷺ , it was said, "Jacob had a foster brother." So he mentioned the hadeeth in a similar manner.
[Machine] I said to her the following quote from Allah Almighty: "Until when the messengers despaired and thought that they had been denied..." [Quran 12:110]. I said, "Did they really despair, thinking that they had been denied?" She replied, "I seek refuge in Allah from thinking such a thing about His messengers. They are only the followers of the messengers when victory is delayed and the affliction intensifies upon them. The messengers thought that their followers had been denied."
23.13 [Machine] The Interpretation of Surah Ar-Ra'd
[Machine] "From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: Indeed, your Lord, the Most High, says, 'If my servants were to obey me, I would surely have given them rain during the night, caused the sun to rise upon them during the day, and they would not have heard the sound of thunder.'"
[Machine] "From one of the two books, there are two books that Allah erases whatever He wills from one of them, and He confirms and keeps with Him the Mother of the Book. (Surah Ar-Ra'd 39) This means the whole sentence of the book. 'A Muslim argued with Hammam and Al-Bukhari argued with Ikrimah.' This is a strange and authentic Hadith from Sulaiman Al-Taymi, and they did not mention it as authentic or strange."
[Machine] "Precaution is of no use against fate, but Allah erases through prayers what He wishes of fate."
[Machine] Ishaq narrated that Abdur-Razzaq informed Thawri, who reported from Talhah, who reported from Ata, who reported from Ibn Abbas, regarding the saying of Allah Almighty: "Do they not see that We are gradually reducing the land from its sides?" (Surah Ar-Rad 41). He said, "The death of its scholars and jurists."
23.14 [Machine] Interpretation of Surah Ibrahim, Peace be upon him
[Machine] "Allah the Almighty says: 'And whoever among them says, 'Indeed, I am a god besides Him,' then that person We will recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.' [Surah Al-Anbiya 29]
*And He said to Muhammad, peace be upon him: 'Indeed, We have granted you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow...' [Surah Al-Fath 2]
They asked: What is the reason for Allah's preference of Muhammad over the people of the earth?
He replied: Indeed, Allah the Almighty says, 'And We have not sent any messenger except in the language of his people.' [Surah Ibrahim 4]
And He said to Muhammad, peace be upon him: 'And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner to all mankind.' [Surah Saba 28]
[Machine] He said about the saying of Allah, the Almighty: "Then they will bite their hands in regret" [Ibrahim 14:48]. He said, "They will fiercely bite their hands."
[Machine] On the authority of Abdullah, regarding His saying, exalted be He, "So they put their hands in their mouths." [Ibrahim 9] Abdullah said that he replicated this by putting his hand in his mouth and biting it, and he said, "Bite onto your fingers in anger."
[Machine] When Allah the Mighty and Majestic revealed to his Prophet, may peace be upon him, the verse: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire," [Al-Tahrim 6], the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, recited it to his companions one night or one day. A young man then fell unconscious. The Prophet, may peace be upon him, placed his hand on the young man's heart, and it started moving. The Prophet said, "O young man, say 'There is no god but Allah.'" He said it, and the Prophet gave him glad tidings of Paradise. His companions asked the Messenger of Allah, "Is he safe among us?" The Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, said, "Did you not hear the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, 'That is for him who fears My station and fears My threat'?" [Ibrahim 14].
"He will be given water of Sadid to drink, he will swallow it..." that the Prophet ﷺ said: " It will be brought toward his mouth and he will dislike it, so whenever it is brought closer to him it will melt his face and the skin of his head will fall into it. Then whenever he drinks from it, his bowels will be severed until it comes out from his anus. Allah, the Blessed and Exalted says: "And they will be given water of Hamim to drink such that it cuts up their bowels..." and He says: "And if they call for drink they will be given water of Muhl which melts the faces, the worst of drinks..." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2583)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought a mask made of musk. He recited the example of a good word like a good tree and said, "It is the date palm tree."
[Machine] "Who are those who exchanged the blessings of Allah for disbelief and made their people dwell in the Abode of Destruction?" They said, "The hypocrites of the Quraysh." He said, "So who are those whose efforts have gone astray in worldly life, while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds?" He said, "Among them are the people of Harura."
[Machine] From Ali regarding His saying, Exalted and Majestic is He, "And they made their people dwell in the dwelling place of destruction" [Ibrahim 28]. He said, "They are the two wicked tribes from Quraysh, Banu Umayyah and Banu Mugheerah. As for Banu Mugheerah, Allah has destroyed their descendants on the day of Badr. And as for Banu Umayyah, they will be given respite for a certain period of time."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, recited, "On the day when the earth will be changed to something other than the earth, and the heavens as well, and they will come forth to Allah, the One, the Subduer." I asked, "Where will the people be on that day?" He replied, "They will be on the Bridge."

[Machine] "Allah continues to intercede, admit into paradise, have mercy, and intercede until He says, 'Whoever among the Muslims, let him enter paradise.' That is when He says, 'Perhaps those who disbelieved wish that they had been Muslims.' (Al-Hijr 2)"

“A woman used to perform prayer behind the Prophet ﷺ, and she was one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people used to go into the first row so that they would not see her, and some of them used to lag behind so that they would be in the last row, and when they bowed, they would do like this so that they could see her from beneath their armpits. Then Allah revealed: “And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you (mankind), and also those who will some afterwards.” [15:24] concerning her matter. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1046)

[Machine] "The forward rows are for those who come early and the back rows are for those who come late." - Al-Dhahabi did not mention it in the summary.
[Machine] "Do you welcome me, O Amir al-Mu'minin, even though you have killed my father and taken my wealth?" He replied, "As for your wealth, it is in the treasury, so go tomorrow and take it. As for your claim that you have killed my father, I hope that both you and your father are among those whom Allah, the Almighty, has mentioned in the verse: 'And We have removed whatever was in their breasts of resentment, [while] brothers, on thrones facing each other' (Surah Al-Hijr 47)." A man from Hamdan said, "Indeed, Allah is more just than that." Upon hearing this, Ali let out a cry that could be heard throughout the palace. He said, "Then who are we if we are not those mentioned in the verse?" This narration is authentic and has not been narrated by anyone else.

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "When the believers are saved from the Fire, they will be detained on a bridge between the Fire and Paradise to settle their disputes that existed among them in the world. When they are purified and have their sins expiated, permission will be granted for them to enter Paradise. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, one of them will be more generous in giving a place for his fellow believer in Paradise than what anyone of you gives of his dwelling in the world."

23.16 [Machine] Tafsir of Surah An-Nahl
[Machine] About this verse, "you take from it intoxication and good provision" [An-Nahl 67], Al-Sakar refers to what is forbidden from its fruits, and good provision refers to what is permissible from its fruits.
[Machine] Regarding Abdullah's statement, Allah says "sons and grandsons" [An-Nahl 72]. Al-Hafadah refers to two sisters.
[Machine] "Abdullah in the words of Allah, Almighty said: 'We have increased them in punishment above the punishment.' (Surah An-Nahl, 88) He said: 'The stingers of scorpions are like the long date palm branches.'"
[Machine] I heard from Abdullah and I believe you or I'm telling you the truth. He said, "I heard Abdullah say that indeed in the Quran there is a verse in Surah An-Nahl that encompasses both good and evil. [It says]: 'Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.'" He [the narrator] said, "You spoke the truth."
The Prophet ﷺ said: There is no sin more fitted to have punishment meted out by Allah to its perpetrator in advance in this world along with what He stores up for him in the next world than oppression and severing ties of relationship. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4902)
[Machine] "And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate and say, 'O Allah, suffice me with what You have provided me and bless it for me and replace every absent thing for me with something better.'"
[Machine] "And He said in Surah An-Nahl, 'And when We substitute a verse in place of another verse' (16:101) and He said in His statement, glorified be He, 'Then indeed, your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to renounce their religion] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allah] and were patient, indeed, your Lord, after that, is forgiving and merciful' (16:110). The verse means that it is Abdullah bin Sa'd or someone else who used to be the governor of Egypt and he used to write on behalf of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, but then he defected and joined the disbelievers. So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, ordered that he be killed on the Day of the Conquest. Uthman bin Affan sought his protection for him from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, granted him protection."
[Machine] The polytheists took Ammar ibn Yasir and did not leave him until he cursed the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned their idols in a good way. Then they left him. When he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he asked, "What is behind you?" He said, "Evil, O Messenger of Allah. I was not left alone until I spoke ill of you and mentioned their idols in a good way." He said, "How do you find your heart?" He said, "Satisfied with faith." He said, "If they come back, then return."

23.17 [Machine] The interpretation of Surah Bani Isra'il
[Machine] I was in a gathering where Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman was present. So, I said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taken on a night journey, and he entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque." Hudhayfah responded, "How do you know that, O bald one? I recognize your face, but I do not know your name. What is your name?" So, I said to him, "I am Zirr ibn Hubaysh al-Asadi." He then asked, "How do you know that he entered the mosque?" I replied, "By the Quran." Hudhayfah said, "Whoever holds firmly to the Quran shall have success." I then recited the verse, "Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed." [Quran, 17:1] Hudhayfah asked, "Do you see him entering it?" I said, "Yes." He said, "By Allah, he did not enter it. If he had entered, it would have been prescribed for you to pray there." Then he added, "He did not leave the back of al-Buraq until he saw Paradise and Hellfire, and he was given the promise of the Hereafter." I said, "O Abu Abdullah, what is al-Buraq?" He replied, "It is an animal larger than a donkey, and smaller than a mule, with its step covering the range of its vision."
