23.2 [Machine] Explanation of Surah Al-Baqarah
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In Surah Al-Baqarah, there is a verse that is the leader of the Quran. It should not be recited in a house where there is a Shaytan, except that the verse of Al-Kursi will cause the Shaytan to leave." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, everything has a summit. And the summit of the Quran is Surah Al-Baqarah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have been given Surah Al-Baqarah from the beginning of the remembrance."
[Machine] Read Surah Al-Baqarah in your homes, for indeed Satan does not enter a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The chief of the verses of the Quran is the Verse of the Throne."
that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed Allah wrote in a book two thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, and He sent down two Ayat from it to end Surat Al-Baqarah with. If they are recited for three nights in a home, no Shaitan shall come near it." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2882)
[Machine] "This is the book" [Surah Al-Baqarah 2]. {Alif Lam Meem} [Surah Al-Baqarah 1] is an abbreviation for the name of Allah, and {Al-Kitab} [Surah Al-Baqarah 2] refers to the Quran. {There is no doubt in it} [Surah Al-Baqarah 2] It is undoubtedly true.
[Machine] They mentioned in the presence of Abdullah, the companions of Muhammad ﷺ and their faith. Abdullah said, "Indeed, the matter of Muhammad was clear to anyone who saw him, and there is no god but Him. A believer who believes in the unseen is better than belief in the unseen. Then he recited, 'Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Book in which there is no doubt.' (Quran, Al-Baqarah, 2) until His saying, 'They believe in the unseen.' (Quran, Al-Baqarah, 3)
[Machine] "Indeed, the stones that Allah mentioned in the Quran, their fuel is mankind. And the stones are stones made of petrified sulfur, created by Allah the Almighty as He willed and in the way He willed."
[Machine] Allah indeed expelled Adam from Paradise before anyone entered it. Allah, the Most High, said: "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a Khalifa." They said: "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds Blood?" [Quran 2:30] And indeed, before he [Adam] was created, there were already jinn made of smokeless fire. They caused corruption on the earth and shed blood. So when Allah, the Most High, said: "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a Khalifa." They said: "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds Blood?" [Quran 2:30], they meant the jinn, the sons of jinn. So when they caused corruption on the earth, Allah sent armies of angels upon them and fought them until they drove them to islands in the seas. Then the angels said: "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein?" [Quran 2:30], just as those jinn, the sons of jinn, did? So Allah said: "Indeed, I know that which you do not know." [Quran 2:30].
[Machine] When Allah finished creating Adam and breathed the soul into him, Adam sneezed and said, "Alhamdulillah." So his Lord said to him, "May your Lord have mercy on you."
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ it is narrated that he said, "Allah created Adam from the whole of the Earth, so his offspring came forth according to that. Among them are those who are white, black, brown, and red. And among them are those who are in between that. And among them are those who are good and those who are wicked."
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Indeed, Adam was a tall man, as if he were a date palm tree, with a lot of hair on his head. When he committed the sin, his nakedness was exposed to him, and he did not see it before that. So he went running in Paradise, and a tree clung to him. He said to it, 'Send me away.' It said, 'I am not under your command.' Then his Lord called him, 'O Adam, are you fleeing from Me?' He said, 'O Lord, I am ashamed of You.'"
[Machine] A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how many prophets were there before Adam?" He ﷺ replied, "Yes, Adam was a prophet, a learned one and a speaker." The man asked, "How many generations were there between Adam and Noah?" He replied, "Ten generations." The man asked, "And how many generations were there between Noah and Ibrahim (Abraham)?" He replied, "Ten generations." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how many prophets were there in total?" He replied, "Three hundred and fifteen great ones."
[Machine] They sought forgiveness, but they said a wrong thing and entered upon their inclinations. That is the saying of Allah, exalted is He, "[So He changed those who did wrong with a calamity as they did not listen to the advice that was said to them.]" [Al-Baqarah 2:59]
[Machine] How do you ask about something while you have the Book of Allah, which contains the latest news from Allah? Allah has informed you that they have written a book with their own hands, distorted and changed it, and they claim that it is from Allah. And they have sold it for a small price. But the Book of Allah is pure and has not been altered. By Allah, none of them will ask you about what has been revealed to you.
[Machine] The Jews of Khaybar used to fight against the tribe of Ghatafan. And every time they clashed, the Jews of Khaybar would be defeated. So, the Jews sought help from Allah with this supplication: "O Allah, we ask You by the right of Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet whom You promised to send in the end of times, to grant us victory over them." Then, whenever they met the enemy, they would make this supplication and would defeat the tribe of Ghatafan.
But when the Prophet ﷺ was sent, they disbelieved in him. So Allah revealed the verse: "But they used to seek victory over the disbelievers before, [for the sake] of Muhammad." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:89).
The necessity led to the expulsion of the Prophet ﷺ from their interpretation of this verse, although it is a strange interpretation from his hadith. There is no need for that, as Abdullah (ibn Abbas) said: it is canceled and has no effect on the Prophet ﷺ .
[Machine] "The Jews" {and among those who associate partners with Allah} [Al-Baqarah 96], "The non-Arabs" said, "The two scholars agreed on the chain of narration of the interpretation of the companion, and this chain is authentic according to their criteria, and they did not exclude it" according to the criteria of Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] From Ibn Abbas concerning His statement, exalted is He, "with an increase of words"
[Machine] "They are the people of the Book." "And among those who associate partners with Allah, one of them wishes that if he could live a thousand years, he would not be freed from the torment. And Allah is seeing of what they do." [Al-Baqarah 96] He said, this is the statement of one of them to his companion. He sent joy and fragrance festival.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My ministers from the heavens are Gabriel and Mika'il, and from the people of the Earth are Abu Bakr and 'Umar."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have two ministers from the people of the sky and two ministers from the people of the earth. As for my ministers from the people of the sky, they are Jibril (Gabriel) and Mikail (Michael). And as for my ministers from the people of the earth, they are Abu Bakr and Umar. Narrated by Abu Ubaid Al-Qasim ibn Salam, from Abu Muawiyah, from Atiya, with another wording."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ mentioned the companion of images and said, "Jibril (Gabriel) is on his right and Mika'il (Michael) is on his left." Abu 'Ubaid said, "They are two angels that are mentioned frequently in the Hadith." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gabriel is on his right side and Michael is on his left side, and he is the companion of the images." Dahabi did not provide a summary for this.
[Machine] "What you say does not affect us, even if we knew, we would not marry his wives nor divide his inheritance." Then he said, "I will tell you about it. Indeed, the devils used to listen stealthily, and one of them would bring me a true statement that he had heard. But then he would mix it with seventy lies, which the people would believe. So, Allah revealed this to Sulaiman bin Dawud, and he took it and buried it beneath the throne. When Sulaiman died, a devil appeared on the path and said, 'Shall I guide you to a treasure of Sulaiman that no one has a treasure like?' They said, 'Yes.' So, he brought it out, but it was just magic. The nations then followed it, and its remnants are still spoken of by the people of Iraq. So, Allah revealed an excuse for Sulaiman and said, 'And follow what the devils recited during the reign of Sulaiman. It was not Sulaiman who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved' [Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 102]."
[Machine] "{Wherever you turn, there is the face of Allah}" [Al-Baqarah 115]. "That you pray wherever your mount faces in voluntary prayer."
[Machine] "In the saying of Allah Almighty, 'Those to whom We have given the book recite it with true recitation.' [Al-Baqarah 121] He said, 'They make permissible what is permissible and prohibit what is prohibited, and they do not distort it from its rightful place.'"
[Machine] Regarding the saying of Ibn Abbas in regard to the statement of Allah the Almighty, "And [mention] when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:124).
[Machine] "Allah has commanded His Prophet ﷺ to purify my house for the pilgrims, those who perform 'Itikaf (seclusion for worship), and those who perform the bowing and prostration. So, Tawaf (circumambulation) is performed before the prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Tawaf around the House is like prayer, except that Allah has permitted speech during it. Therefore, whoever speaks should only do so with goodness.'

[Machine] Regarding the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Circumambulating the House is a form of prayer, except that Allah allows speech during it. So whoever speaks during it should only speak of good." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

[Machine] Ibrahim, the beloved of the Most Merciful, came from Armenia with tranquility as a guide for him to the location of the House, just as the spider takes its home. Then Ibrahim dug beneath the tranquility and revealed the foundations of what moves the foundation, except for thirty men. He said, "Then he said..." So wherever you [might] turn, there is the face of Allah.}" (Al-Baqarah 2:115). So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned towards the direction of Bait al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) and left the Ancient House (Kaaba), and then Allah, the Exalted, said, "{The foolish among the people will say, 'What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?'}" (Al-Baqarah 2:142). They meant Bait al-Maqdis, so Allah abrogated it and directed it to the Ancient House, and Allah, the Exalted, said, "{And from wherever you go out [for prayer], turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] may be, turn your faces toward it}" (Al-Baqarah 2:150).

He replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, it seems that way to us, and Allah knows best about secrets.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, it is necessary.' And we were with him at the funeral of a man from Banu Harithah or Banu Abd al-Ashhal, and a man said, 'What a bad person he is if we do not know whether he uses harsh language or not.' [Machine] About his mother, Umm Kulthum bint Uqba, she was one of the first emigrants. In relation to the saying of Allah Almighty, "Seek help through patience and prayer" (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:45), she said that Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf fell unconscious and they thought he had passed away, so his wife Umm Kulthum went to the mosque seeking help through what she was commanded, patience and prayer. When he regained consciousness, he asked, "Did I pass out?" They answered, "Yes." He said, "You spoke the truth, for two angels came to me and told me to go and meet the trustworthy dignitary." Another angel said, "Return him, for this is one of those whom you have written happiness for, and his descendants will enjoy him as long as Allah wills." After that, he lived for a month and then passed away.

[Machine] This verse was revealed specifically to the Ansar, who were in the period of Ignorance (before Islam) when they performed the pilgrimage and were not allowed to perform the sa'i (the ritual of walking between Safa and Marwa). When we arrived (in Medina), we mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and Allah revealed the following verse: "Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:158) until the end of the verse.
"I asked Anas bin Malik about As-Safa and Al-Marwah, and he said: 'They were among the rites of Jahiliyyah.' He said: 'So during Islam, we refrained from them, then Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: Indeed As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin for those who perform Hajj or 'Umrah to the house to go between them. (2:158)' He said: 'So it is voluntarily then verily, Allah is the All-Recogniser, the All-Knowing. (2:158)'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2966)

[Machine] I begin with Safa before Marwa, or I begin with Marwa before Safa, and I pray before circumambulating (the Kaaba) or I circumambulate before praying, and I shave before slaughtering, or I slaughter before shaving? Ibn Abbas said: "Take this from the Book of Allah, for it is more deserving to be preserved." Allah the Almighty said: "Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah." (2:158) "So Safa is before Marwa." And He said: "Do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal reaches its place of slaughter." (2:196) "So the sacrifice is before shaving." And He said: "Purify My house for those who perform Tawaf and those who stay in it for worship, and for those who bow and prostrate." (2:125) "So Tawaf is before prayer."

[Machine] In the pre-Islamic era, the devils used to play music all night long between Safa and Marwa. They had idols, which they worshipped. When Islam came, the Muslims said to the Prophet Muhammad, "O Messenger of Allah, we will no longer perform the rite of Sa'y (walking) between Safa and Marwa, as it is something we used to do in the pre-Islamic era." Then Allah revealed the verse, "Indeed, as for those who perform Hajj to the Ka'bah or 'umrah, there is no blame upon them for walking between them" (Quran 2:158). This means that there is no sin upon them, but they will be rewarded.
