5. Fasting (11/18)
[Machine] "That Abu Huraira used to say: Whoever wakes up in a state of Janaba (a state of impurity after sexual intercourse), should break the fast. So Marwan sent someone to Aisha and she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of Janaba from sexual intercourse, and then he would fast. Then he went to Um Salama and she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of Janaba and then he would fast. So Marwan came to Abu Huraira and informed him of the statement of Um Salama and Aisha. Abu Huraira said: That is how I used to think, and the wording is from Ibn Muthanna. Abu Abdul Rahman said: Khalid bin Abdullah and Abdul Aziz sent him."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaba (impurity after sexual intercourse) without experiencing a wet dream, and then he would observe fasting.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to wake up in the state of janaba (major ritual impurity after sexual intercourse) without having dreamt, and then he would observe fasting. Ayyub, on the other hand, disagreed with him.
[Machine] About some of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, it was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah (ritual impurity after sexual intercourse) without having a wet dream and would observe fasting
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to wake up in a state of janaabah (ritual impurity after sexual intercourse) and then observe fasting." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said that Abu 'Iyaad went against them and narrated from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith that he sent Zikwaan to 'Aa'ishah and he asked her, and then to Umm Salamah and he asked her, and they both returned to him and informed him."
[Machine] Marwan sent me to Aisha, so I went to her and met her servant boy, Dhiqwan. I sent him to her and asked her about that. She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaba (impurity after sexual intercourse) while fasting, then he would continue fasting and not break it." So I went to Marwan and told him about that, and he sent me to Umm Salamah. I went to her and met her servant boy, Nafi'. I sent him to her and asked her about that. She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaba while fasting, then he would continue fasting and not break it."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah (impurity due to sexual intercourse), then he would wake up fasting. Then he went to Aisha and said, "I met her slave boy, Dhakwan, and I sent him to her to ask her. Then he returned to him and he told him that she informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of junub from sexual intercourse and then he would wake up fasting." Then he went to Marwan and informed him, and he said, "I swear to you that you must go to Abu Hurairah and inform him about them." So he went to him and informed him, and he said, "They know better."
"Aishah and Umm Salamah, the wives of the Prophet informed me that the Prophet would find that it was Fajr while he was Junub from (relations with) his wives, then he would perform Ghusl and fast." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 779)
5.126 [Machine] The mention of disagreement over Al-Zuhri in this statement.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to experience dawn while he was in a state of sexual impurity, then he would perform ghusl (ritual purification) and observe fasting.
[Machine] Aisha and Umm Salamah told me, they said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to experience the dawn while in a state of ritual impurity from intimate relations with his wives. Then he would perform ghusl (ritual purification) and observe his fast for the day." Qutaybah bin Sa'id, however, contradicted this statement.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to experience the dawn while he was in a state of impurity after being intimate with his wives, then he would perform ablution and observe fasting.
[Machine] My father and I entered upon Aisha and Umm Salamah. They said, "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah (ritual impurity due to sexual activity) and then observe fasting."
[Machine] Aisha and Hafsah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wake up in the morning while being junub (having attained sexual defilement without performing ghusl), and would then observe fasting for the day.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity without having a wet dream, but that did not prevent him from fasting.
(At times) in Ramadan the Prophet ﷺ used to take a bath in the morning not because of a wet dream and would continue his fast. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1930)

[Machine] Marwan said to Abdurrahman, "I intended to ask you about something, but you met Aisha and Umm Salamah and asked them. They said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janabah (impurity) and still fast. Abdurrahman informed Marwan of this and he said, "I intended to ask you, except that I met Abu Hurairah and informed him." Abdurrahman said to Marwan, "Do you fear that he will say that I am following your words?" Marwan said, "I intended to meet him, so I met him in his land near Juhaifa and informed Abu Hurairah. Abu Hurairah said, 'Fadl ibn Abbas informed me of the same thing.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of major impurity caused by sexual intercourse, and he would not perform ghusl (full ritual bath), nor would he break his fast or make up for it.
[Machine] Aisha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity from intimate relations, but would still complete his fast."

[Machine] Abu Huraira said: "Whoever wakes up in a state of sexual impurity, fasting is not valid for him." So Marwan sent Abdur Rahman to ask Aisha about this. He said to her, "Abu Huraira says that whoever wakes up in a state of sexual impurity, fasting is not valid for him." Aisha replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to have sexual relations and then complete his fast. So Marwan sent a message to Abu Huraira, informing him that Aisha had said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to have sexual relations and then complete his fast." Abu Huraira then stopped saying that.

[Machine] I went to Aisha and said: "Abu Huraira says that whoever wakes up in a state of junub should not fast." She replied: "I don't say anything about that. The caller to prayer used to call for prayer and he would be in a state of junub, with water dripping from his shoulders, and then he would pray Fajr and continue fasting." Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman contradicted him and narrated it from Isma'il from Mujalid from Sha'bi that he informed me that Zakariya ibn Yahya said: Abu Hafs told us that Mu'tamir told us that Isma'il told us that Mujalid told us that 'Amir told us that Abu Bakr ibn 'Abdur-Rahman said: I mentioned it to Yahya and he said: Isma'il told us that 'Amir told us that Abu Bakr ibn 'Abdur-Rahman told us that Aisha said and I heard Yahya say: I heard Mujalid narrating from 'Amir from 'Abdur-Rahman ibn al-Harith from Aisha with a similar hadith.
[Machine] Abu Hurayrah said: "Whoever wakes up in a state of janaabah (sexual impurity) should not observe fasting. Abu came to Aisha and I entered with him, and he asked her. She said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaabah without having any ejaculation and would observe fasting that day." So I mentioned that to Marwan and he said: "I am convinced of what you have encountered with Abu Hurayrah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of janaba (major ritual impurity resulting from sexual intercourse), willingly and not by coercion. He would then perform ghusl (ablution for purification) and offer prayers, completing his fast for that day.
[Machine] Bilal used to come to the Prophet ﷺ and inform him of the Fajr prayer, while being in a state of impurity (after sexual intercourse). He would then perform ghusl (ritual bath) and come to the mosque to pray two units of prayer, with his head dripping with impurity, and then observe fasting for that day.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity, then he would perform ablution, then he would go out to pray and would lead the prayer, and I would hear his recitation, then he would fast.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sleep on his side, then Bilal would come to him and call him for prayer. The Messenger would immediately get up and pour water over his head. [Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go out for the Fajr prayer with his head dripping with water from performing ablution, and then he would begin his fast. My father narrated this to Marwan, who said to me, 'Go and inform Abu Huraira.' Abu Huraira said, 'He is how Aisha described.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of ritual impurity (junub), then he would perform the ritual ablution, and then he would go to the mosque with his head dripping from water, and then he would fast that day. I informed Marwan about what she (Aisha) said, and he told me to inform Abu Huraira about Aisha's words. So I said, "Indeed, he is my close friend, and I prefer that you excuse me." He said, "I have made up my mind about you." So I set out with him to Abu Huraira and informed him of what she said. Aisha then said, "In that case, I know better about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) without having had sexual intercourse, then he would observe fasting.
[Machine] Aisha and Umm Salamah used to say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wake up in a state of impurity from sexual intercourse, then he would proceed to fast.
[Machine] Regarding this hadith that Abu Hurayrah narrates, he went to Um Salama and mentioned it to her. She said, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to have relations with me in the morning and then fast, and he would order fasting in Ramadan." Marwan said, "Tell him about this hadith that Um Salama narrated to you." So Abu Hurayrah went to him and mentioned it to him. Abu Hurayrah said, "Fulan narrated to us and Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad opposed him, so he narrated it from Muhammad ibn Amr from Yahya ibn Abdur Rahman ibn Hatib."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wake up in a state of sexual impurity, then he would fast and command me to do the same. He returned to Marwan and informed him of this. Marwan said to him, "Go to Abu Hurairah and tell him about it." So he went to him and mentioned to him that Marwan had ordered him to visit Umm Salamah and ask her about it. He said, "So I went to her and asked her, then I went to him and informed him." Then I narrated to him what Umm Salamah had told me. Abu Hurairah said, "It is not a problem, as Al-Fadl bin Abbas informed me of it."
