5. Fasting
I saw ʿAli and ʿUthman ؓ on the day of (Eid) al-fitr and (Eid) al-Adhaa; they prayed, then when they finished they reminded the people. I heard them saying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days, It was narrated from ʿAtaʿ bin Yazeed al-Jundaʿi that he heard Humran the freed slave of ʿUthman bin ʿAffan ؓ , say. I saw Ameer al-Muʿmineen ʿUthman do wudoo’; he poured water onto his hands three times, then he rinsed his nose three times and rinsed his mouth three times... and he mentioned the Hadeeth, similar to the Hadeeth of Maʿmar. (Using translation from Aḥmad 427)
“I was present for ‘Eid with ‘Umar bin Khattab. He started with the prayer before the sermon, and said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days, the Day of Fitr and the Day of Adha. As for the Day of Fitr, it is the day when you break your fast, and on the Day of Adha you eat the meat of your sacrifices.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1722)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no fasting on the day of Eid."
