5. Fasting

٥۔ كِتَابُ الصِّيَامِ

5.121 [Machine] The fasting of the guardian for the deceased.

٥۔١٢١ صَوْمُ الْوَلِيِّ عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ

nasai-kubra:2931ʿAlī b. ʿUthmān al-Ḥarrānī al-Nufaylī And ʾIsmāʿīl b. Yaʿqūb al-Ḥarrānī al-Ṣabīḥī > Ibn Mūsá Wahū Muḥammad b. Mūsá b. Aʿyan al-Ḥarrānī from my father > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > ʿUbaydullāh b. Abū Jaʿfar > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > ʿUrwah > ʿĀʾishah

The Prophet ﷺ as saying: If anyone dies when some fast is due from him (i.e. which he could not keep) his heir must fast on his behalf. Abu Dawud said: This applies to the fast which a man vows ; and this is the opinion of Ahmad b. Hanbal. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2400)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٢٩٣١أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ النُّفَيْلِيُّ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ الصَّبِيحِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُوسَى وَهُوَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ أَعْيَنَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ»
