5. Fasting
A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don't you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else). (Using translation from Muslim 1148a)
A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid. (Using translation from Muslim 1148b)
“A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my sister has died and she owed a fast of two consecutive months.’ He said: ‘Do you not think that if your sister owed a debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The right of Allah is greater.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1758)
A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said (to him) that one month's fast was due from her mother who had died. May I fulfill them on her behalf? He asked: Suppose some debt was due from your mother, would you pay it ? She replied: Yes. He said: So the debt due to Allah is the one which most deserves to be paid. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3310)
[Machine] A man came to the prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she has a month of fasting owed. Should I fast on her behalf?" He (the prophet) said, "Do you think if she had a debt, would you fulfill it for her? So, the debt of Allah deserves to be fulfilled." Sulaiman narrated to me this hadith from Salamah bin Kuhayl, and Al-Hakam also narrated the same from Ibn Abbas.
[Machine] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has passed away and she had a vow to fast. Should I fast on her behalf?" He said, "Were you a debtor for your mother, would you have fulfilled her debt?" She said, "Yes." He said, "Then fast on behalf of your mother." Abu 'Abdur Rahman narrated it and Ayyub bin Musa narrated from 'Ata, from Ibn 'Abbas: "No one can fast on behalf of someone else."
[Machine] "He doesn't speak about himself, but he feeds others from his own place every day with bread."
