9. Funerals
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say that the right of a Muslim upon another Muslim is five: returning the greeting of peace, visiting the sick, attending funerals, accepting invitations, and blessing the sneezer.
[Machine] I traveled with the Prophet (PBUH) more than once, and I never saw him pass by the grave of a person without ordering it to be buried. He would not ask if the deceased was a Muslim or a disbeliever. And others narrated from Ibn Abi Uwais through his chain of narration from Umar ibn Abdullah ibn Ya'la ibn Murrah al-Thaqafi from his father who said: I heard Ya'la ibn Murrah say, and he mentioned it to us, that Abu Bakr al-Asbahani informed him that Ali ibn Umar al-Daraqutni reported from Al-Husayn ibn Isma'il al-Mahamili who reported from Abdullah ibn Shabeeb who reported from Ibn Abi Uwais, and he mentioned it.
[Machine] He said that the people found a dead woman in the desert and they passed by her without lifting her head, until a man from the tribe of Layth called Kulayb, a poor man, passed by her and threw his garment over her. He then sought help from someone to bury her. Umar called his son Abdullah and asked if he had passed by this dead woman. He replied no. Umar said, "If you had informed me that you passed by her, I would have punished you." Umar then stood between the people and was angry with them for their behavior, and he said, "Perhaps Allah will enter Kulayb into Paradise because of his deed towards her." While Kulayb was performing ablution at the mosque, Abu Lu'lu'ah, the killer of Umar, attacked him and stabbed him. Nafi' said that Abu Lu'lu'ah killed seven people along with Umar. This narration is also reported by Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar from his father with similar meaning.
