9. Funerals
Ali, Fadl and Usamah ibn Zayd washed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they put him in his grave. Marhab or Ibn AbuMarhab told me that they also made AbdurRahman ibn Awf join them. When Ali became free, he said: The People of the man serve him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3209)
That 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf alighted in the grave of the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I still seem to see the four of them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3210)
[Machine] I washed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he died, then I went to see what could be found from the deceased, but I did not see anything. He remained fragrant and alive even after death ﷺ. I was entrusted with his burial and his offspring, apart from the people, were Ali, Abbas, Al-Fadl, and Salih, the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a proper burial and milk was poured over him.
[Machine] "Those who were buried in the grave of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , are Ali ibn Abi Talib, Al-Fadl ibn Al-Abbas, Qutham ibn Al-Abbas, and Shuqran, the slave of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . Aws ibn Khawliyy said to Ali ibn Abi Talib, 'O Ali, I ask you by Allah and our share from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ .' He replied to him, 'Come down,' so he descended with the people and they were five. The sheikh said, 'And Shuqran is Salih, the slave of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . His nickname is Shuqran.'"
The people saw fire (light) in the graveyard and they went there. They found that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a grave and he was saying: Give me your companion. This was a man who used to raise his voice while mentioning the name of Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3164)
[Machine] We witnessed the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting on the grave. I saw his eyes tearing up, so he said, "Is there anyone among you who didn't commit a sin tonight?" Abu Talhah replied, "I did not." He said, "Then get into her grave." So he went into her grave and Yunus said, "Is there anyone among you who is a man?"
We were (in the funeral procession) of one of the daughters of the Prophet ﷺ and he was sitting by the side of the grave. I saw his eyes shedding tears. He said, "Is there anyone among you who did not have sexual relations with his wife last night?" Abu Talha replied in the affirmative. And so the Prophet told him to get down in the grave. And so he got down in her grave. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1285)
[Machine] 'Omar bin Al-Khattab proposed to marry Zainab bint Jahsh four times, and then he sent a message to the Prophet's ﷺ wives asking, "Who will enter her grave?" They replied, "Whoever used to have intimate relations with her during her lifetime." This narration was reported from Ya'la bin 'Ubaid through Isma'il, and it was amplified. 'Omar was pleased with the idea that he would be buried with her. When they told him what they said, he said, "They have spoken the truth."'
