9. Funerals
He who attends the funeral till the prayer is offered for (the dead), for him is the reward of one qirat, and he who attends (and stays) till he is buried, for him is the reward of two qirats. It was said: What are the qirats? He said: They are equivalent to two huge mountains. Two other narrators added: Ibn 'Umar used to pray and then depart (without waiting for the burial of the dead). When the tradition of Abu Huraira reached him, he said:" We have lost many qirats." (Using translation from Muslim 945a)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever prays upon a funeral (prayer), he will have one carat, and whoever waits until the burial is completed, he will have two carats." They said: "So what are the two carats?" He said: "They are like the two great mountains."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , heard saying: "Whoever accompanies a funeral from its house and prays over it and follows it until it is buried, will have two Qirats of reward. And whoever prays over it and then returns, will have a Qirat of reward equal to Mount Uhud." Ibn 'Umar sent Khubbab to ask Aisha about the statement of Abu Hurayrah, and then Khubbab returned to Ibn 'Umar and informed him of what Aisha had said. So Ibn 'Umar took a handful of pebbles from the mosque and tossed them in his hand until the Messenger returned to him. He then said, 'Aisha spoke the truth.' Ibn 'Umar then struck the ground with the pebbles in his hand and said, 'Indeed, we have neglected many Qirats.'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ: "Whoever prays the funeral prayer for a deceased person will receive one Qirat (a unit of reward) and whoever follows the funeral procession until the deceased is placed in the grave will receive two Qirats." I asked Abu Huraira, "What is a Qirat?" He said, "It is equivalent to the size of a mountain called Uhud."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever prays upon a funeral will get one Qirat and whoever witnesses its burial will get two Qirats. The Qirat is the size of the mountain of Uhud.
