9.154 [Machine] What to Say in Consoling and Praying for the Deceased and Those Left Behind

bayhaqi:7090Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥāfiẓ > Abū ʿAbdullāh Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh al-Ṣaffār > Abū Ismāʿīl Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl > Saʿīd b. Abū Maryam > Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd > Rabīʿah b. Sayf > Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Ḥubulī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ

[Machine] We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to bury a man. When we returned and reached his door, there was a woman facing us whom we didn't think he knew. He said, "O Fatimah, where did you come from?" She said, "I came from the people of this household. I visited them in their time of bereavement and consoled them." He said, "Did you tell them about the hardship?" She said, "May Allah forbid that I convey to them the hardship. However, I heard you mention in it what you mentioned." He said, "If you had conveyed the hardship, you would not have seen the gate of Paradise until your father saw it, and the graves are the hardship."

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away and condolences were being given, they heard someone saying, "Indeed, in Allah there is consolation from every affliction, a successor from every perishing, and what you have missed out on can still be achieved. So rely on Allah and hope in Him, for the one who is deprived of reward is truly the one who is afflicted." This narration has also been reported from another perspective by Jafar, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ja'bir, and from another perspective by Anas ibn Malik. However, the chains of narration in these versions are weak and Allah knows best.

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ consoled a man and said, "May Allah have mercy on you and reward you, and this is a message."
