54. Tafsīr (Exegesis) (11/15)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah said, "The offspring of Adam abuse the Dahr (Time), and I am the Dahr; in My Hands are the night and the day." ! (Using translation from Bukhārī 6181)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not curse time, for indeed Allah is time. Allah said, 'I am the one who controls time. The son of Adam offends me by cursing time, but I am time; in my hands I switch between night and day.'"
[Machine] The people said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Are you harmed by seeing the sun when there are clouds around it? And are you harmed by seeing the moon on a full moon night?" They said, "No." He said, "Similarly, you will see Him. Allah will gather the people on the Day of Resurrection and will say, 'Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it.' So, those who used to worship the sun will follow the sun, and those who used to worship the moon will follow the moon, and those who used to worship the false deities will follow the false deities. This Ummah will remain with its hypocrites until Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, comes to them in the form they know and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, 'You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him. Then, a bridge will be laid over Hell and I and my Ummah will be the first to pass over it. No one will speak on that Day except the Messengers, and the call of the Messengers on that Day will be, 'O Allah! Grant safety, Grant safety.' In Hell there are hooks like the thorns of Sa'dan. Have you seen the thorns of Sa'dan?" The people said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "These hooks will be treated as if they are Sa'dan. However, none knows the greatness of its size except Allah. These will snatch the people and throw them into their deeds. When Allah intends to bring out from the Fire anyone who said, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,' and they have in their hearts goodness that they recognize, they will be taken out by the traces of prostration and then they will be drawn into Paradise. By Allah! Certainly, the Fire shall consume no one except it is forbidden upon the son of Adam to eat the traces of the prostration, and they will be taken out of the Fire, burnt and tortured, and then they will be poured on with the Water of Life, and then they will grow in it as a seed grows in the silt carried by floodwater."

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, instruct me in a matter in Islam about which I will not ask anyone else after you." He said, "Say I have believed in Allah and then remain steadfast." I asked, "What does it mean to remain steadfast?" He pointed to his tongue. [Narrated by Muhammad bin Bashar, narrated by Muhammad, narrated by Shu'bah, from Ya'la bin 'Ata', from 'Abdullah bin Sufyan Ath-Thaqafi, from his father, similar to it].
[Machine] "Woe to both his parents! (17) This is the verse that reached Aisha, and she said, 'By Allah, he is not accused of what you say. And if I wanted to name the one in whom this verse was revealed, I would have named him. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed Abu Marwan, and Marwan is embodied in him. So Marwan is drenched in the curse of Allah.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand, sit, and turn his face and back when he saw the wind. So, I asked him about it and he said, "O Aisha, what makes me feel secure is that it might be as the people said in the verse 'So when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain!' Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment.'" Then he would see droplets and calm down.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one bears witness that there is no deity but Allah, yet the fire consumes him or he is fed by the fire." Anas said, "I was amazed by this, so I said to my son, write it down."

(Using translation from Bukhārī 6423)
the Messenger of Allah (saas) said: 'I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him one hundred times each day.' (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3815)
[Machine] "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sitting with some of his companions, so I approached him from behind like this. He recognized my intention and took off his cloak from his back, and I saw the place of the ring on the back of his shoulder like a mole surrounded by horses. It is as if they were hills. So I came until I faced him and said to him, "May Allah forgive you, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "And to you." Some of the people said, "Do you ask forgiveness for him, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, and for you too." Then he recited, "And seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women." (Surah Muhammad 47:19)."

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah created His creation, and when He had finished it, the womb, got up and caught hold of Allah whereupon Allah said, "What is the matter?' On that, it said, 'I seek refuge with you from those who sever the ties of Kith and kin.' On that Allah said, 'Will you be satisfied if I bestow My favors on him who keeps your ties, and withhold My favors from him who severs your ties?' On that it said, 'Yes, O my Lord!' Then Allah said, 'That is for you.' " Abu Huraira added: If you wish, you can recite: "Would you then if you were given the authority. do mischief in the land and sever your ties of kinship.
We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and I asked him about something three times but he did not answer me. I said to myself, May your mother be bereft of you. O son of al-Khattab, you spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times and he did not answer you. So I got on my mount and went on ahead, fearing that something had been revealed concerning me. Then I heard someone calling out: O 'Umar! Where is ‘Umar? I went back, thinking that something had been revealed concerning me, and the Prophet ﷺ said: ʿYesterday a soorah was revealed to me that is dearer to me than this world and everything in it: ‘Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad ﷺ) a manifest victory. That Atlah may forgive you your sins of the past and the future' (al-Fath 48:1–2]. (Using translation from Aḥmad 209)
Messenger of Allah, (the time) of prayer overtakes me as I am in a state of junub; should I observe fast (in this state)? Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: (At times the time) of prayer overtakes me while I am in a state of junub, and I observe fast (in that very state), whereupon he said: Messenger of Allah, you are not like us Allah has pardoned all your sins, the previous ones and the later ones. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: By Allah, I hope I am the most God-fearirg of you, and possess the best knowledge among you of those (things) against which I should guard. (Using translation from Muslim 1110)
(Why do you undergo so much hardship despite the fact that) Allah has pardoned for you your earlier and later sins? Thereupon he said: May I not (prove myself) to be a grateful servant (of Allah)? (Using translation from Muslim 2819a)
[Machine] When this verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ , "Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], a clear conquest that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 2], he inquired from where the revelation came. The people answered from Hudaibiya, and they were feeling sadness and grief. The sacrifice had been slaughtered in Hudaibiya, so he said, "Certainly an Ayah has been revealed to me that is more beloved to me than the entire world." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, we have known what will happen to you, but what will happen to us?" So, the verse was revealed, "That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein eternally and remove from them their misdeeds – and ever is that, in the sight of Allah, a great attainment" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 5] to the statement, "a great reward" [Surah An-Nisa, verse 73]. The wording is for Amr.

A man was reciting Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied with two ropes beside him. A cloud came down and spread over that man, and it kept on coming closer and closer to him till his horse started jumping (as if afraid of something). When it was morning, the man came to the Prophet, and told him of that experience. The Prophet ﷺ said, "That was As-Sakina (tranquility) which descended because of (the recitation of) the Qur'an." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5011)

[Machine] About these people who were killed by Ali at the Nahrawan, in what did he seek their compliance and in what did he separate from them and in what did he make their killing permissible? He said: We were at Siffin, and when the killings took place with the people of Sham, Amr ibn al-As said to Muawiyah, "Send to Ali the Quran and invite him to the Book of Allah, for he will not refuse you." So a man brought it to him and he said: "Between us and you is the Book of Allah" (Quran 3:23). Ali, ﷺ , said: "I have a greater right to it." Then the Khawarij came, and we called them on that day 'the Qurra' while their swords were on their shoulders. They said: "O Amir al-Mu'minin, what are we waiting for regarding these people who are on the hill? Shall we not go to them with our swords until Allah judges between us and them?" Sahl ibn Hunayf spoke and said: "O people, accuse yourselves. I have seen us on the day of Hudaybiyah, meaning the truce that was concluded between the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and the polytheists. Had we seen fighting, we would have fought." So Umar came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and said: "Are we upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? Are not our killing [for the sake of Allah] in Paradise and their killing in the Fire?" He said: "Yes." Umar asked: "Then why do we give them the material world in our religion and return it when Allah judges between us and them?" He said: "O son of Khattab, I am the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never let me down." He returned while furious, and he could not wait until he reached Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him. He said: "Are we upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? Are not our killing [for the sake of Allah] in Paradise and their killing in the Fire?" Abu Bakr said: "Yes." Umar asked: "Then why do we give them the material world in our religion and return it when Allah judges between us and them?" Abu Bakr said: "O son of Khattab, he is the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never let him down." Then Surat al-Fath was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , sent it to Umar to recite it to him. Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it a victory?" He said: "Yes."

[Machine] He used to read, "When those who disbelieved had put in their hearts animosity - the animosity of ignorance." [Al-Fath 26]. And if you (Muslims) had been much and well to put up with (on the day of the conquest of Makkah), surely, the holy Mosque (Kaba) would have been destroyed. So Allah saved it from them and also the Prophet ﷺ informed about it. Then Umar added, "You surely know that I used to go in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him about the Qur'an and learn from what Allah had taught him." Umar said, "Nay, but you are a man, having knowledge and the Qur'an. Therefore, read it and learn from what Allah has taught you and his Messenger."

[Machine] Some people from the people of Makkah descended upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the mountain of Tan'eem during the Fajr prayer. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took them and forgave them. And Allah revealed (the verse): "And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 24].

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Hudaibiya, near the base of a tree. Allah said, "And as if I were a branch from the branches of that tree upon the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." So, I lifted it off his back, while Ali ibn Abi Talib and Suhayl ibn Amr were before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'" So Suhayl took his hand and said, "We don't know the 'Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' Write, 'In our case, write, in your name, O Allah.'" Then he said, "This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah." Then, he held his hand and said, "Indeed, we have wronged you if you are a Messenger. Write in our case, in your name, O Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah. I am the Messenger of Allah.'" So, he wrote. While we were like that, thirty young men came out towards us, armed, and they frown upon us. The Prophet ﷺ invoked upon them, and Allah seized their sights. So, we attacked them and seized them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "Have you come under the safety or covenant of anyone?" They replied, "No." So, he let them go. Then, Allah revealed, "And it is He who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them" (Quran 48:24) until "seeing" (Quran 4:58).

We were one thousand and four hundred on the Day of Hudaibiya. We swore fealty to hiin (the Holy Prophet) and 'Umar was holding the latter's hand (when he was sitting) under the tree (called) Samura (to administer the oath to the Companions). The narrator added: We took oath to the effect that we would not flee (from the battlefield if there was an encounter with the Meccans), but we did not take oath to fight to death. (Using translation from Muslim 1856a)

[Machine] "When the verse was revealed, 'O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not' (Quran 49:2), Thabit ibn Qays said, 'By Allah, I used to raise my voice when speaking to the Messenger of Allah, and I fear that Allah may be angry with me.' He became saddened and pale, so the Prophet ﷺ noticed his absence and asked about him. Thabit ibn Qays said, 'O Messenger of Allah, he says, "I fear that I will be among the people of Hell because I used to raise my voice when speaking to the Prophet ﷺ."' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'No, he is among the people of Paradise.' Thabit ibn Qays said, 'We used to see him walking among us, a man from the people of Paradise.'"

A group from Banu Tamim came to the Prophet [SAW]. Abu Bakr said: "Appoint Al-Qa'qa' bin Ma'bad (as commander or governor)," and 'Umar said: "No, (appoint) Al-Aqra' bin Habis." They argued until they began to raise their voices, then the words were revealed: "O you who believe! Make not (a decision) in advance before Allah and His Messenger..." until the end of the Verse: "And if they had patience till you could come out to them, it would have been better for them." So when a man was called by his name, we would say, 'O Messenger of Allah, he gets angry from this.' So the verse {And do not insult one another by nicknames} [Al-Hujurat 11] was revealed in its entirety."

Do you know what is backbiting? They (the Companions) said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner which he does not like. It was said to him: What is your opinion about this that if I actually find (that failing) in my brother which I made a mention of? He said: If (that failing) is actually found (in him) what you assert, you in fact backbited him, and if that is not in him it is a slander. (Using translation from Muslim 2589)

[Machine] A delegation from the Banu Asad came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and they spoke, saying, "Mudar has fought against you, while we are not fewer than them in number, nor are we less brave than them. We have connected with you through kinship." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to Abu Bakr and Umar, "Respond to them in this manner." They said, "No." He said, "Indeed, the understanding of these people is limited, and surely Satan speaks through their tongues." [Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said that Paradise and Hell argued. Paradise said, "O Lord, what is wrong with me that only the poor and destitute among the people enter me, and their weak and sick and downtrodden?" And Hell said, "O Lord, what is wrong with me that only the tyrants and the arrogant enter me?" So Allah said to Hell, "You are My punishment, I will fill you with whomever I will." And He said to Paradise, "You are My mercy, I will fill you with whomever I will." And each of them would be filled to capacity. As for the people of Paradise, Allah creates for them whatever He wills, and as for the people of Hell, they will be thrown into it and it will say, "Is there any more?" Until Allah puts His foot in it, then it will be filled and some parts of it will join with other parts, and it will say, "Enough, enough, enough."

You will see Him without trouble. So if you are able to keep from becoming overwhelmed from prayer before the rising of the sun and before its setting, then do so." Then he recited: And glorify the praises of your Lord before the setting." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2551)

[Machine] In His saying, "The heart did not lie about what it saw" [Quran 53:11], it is said that "he saw Gabriel, ﷺ , in a robe of fluttering light that filled everything between the heavens and the earth."
I was resting at (the house of) 'A'isha that she said: O Abu 'A'isha (kunya of Masruq), there are three things, and he who affirmed even one of them fabricated the greatest lie against Allah. I asked that they were. She said: He who presumed that Muhammad ﷺ saw his Lord (with his ocular vision) fabricated the greatest lie against Allah. I was reclining but then sat up and said: Mother of the Faithful, wait a bit and do not be in a haste. Has not Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:" And truly he saw him on the clear horizon" (Al-Qur'an, Surat at-Takwir, 81:23) and" he saw Him in another descent" (Al-Qur'an, Surat Najm 53:13)? She said: I am the first of this Ummah who asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, and he said: Verily he is Gabriel. I have never seen him in his original form in which he was created except on those two occasions (to which these verses refer); I saw him descending from the heaven and filling (the space) from the sky to the earth with the greatness of his bodily structure. She said: Have you not heard Allah saying: "Eyes comprehend Him not, but He comprehends (all) vision. and He is Subtle, and All-Aware" (Al-Qur'an, Surat al-Anʿam 6:103)? (She, i.e. 'A'isha, further said): Have you not heard that, verily, Allah says: "And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise." (Al-Qur'an, Surat ash-Shura, 42:51) She said: He who presumes that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concealed anything from the Book of Allah fabricates the greatest lie against Allah. Allah says: "O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people." (Al-Qur'an, Surat al-Ma'idah, 5:67). She said: He who presumes that he would inform about what was going to happen tomorrow fabricates the greatest lie against Allah. And Allah says "Say, 'None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah , and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.'" (Al-Qur'an, Surat an-Naml, 27:65).
