قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ} [الحجرات: 11]

nasai-kubra:11452 – Ḥumayd b. Masʿadah > Bishr > Dāwud > ʿĀmir

[Machine] Abu Jabirah ibn al-Dhahak said: "The verse was revealed among us when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah. There was not a single one of us except that he had two or three names. So when a man was called by his name, we would say, 'O Messenger of Allah, he gets angry from this.' So the verse {And do not insult one another by nicknames} [Al-Hujurat 11] was revealed in its entirety."  

الكبرى للنسائي:١١٤٥٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ عَامِرٍ قَالَ

أَبُو جَبِيرَةَ بْنُ الضَّحَّاكِ فِينَا نَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَمَا مِنَّا رَجُلٌ إِلَّا لَهُ اسْمَانِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٌ كَانَ إِذَا دَعَا الرَّجُلَ بِالِاسْمِ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ يَغْضَبُ مِنْ هَذَا فَأُنْزِلَتْ {وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ} [الحجرات 11] الْآيَةُ كُلُّهَا

So the verse {And do not insult one another by [offensive] nicknames} was revealed."
