We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and I asked him about something three times but he did not answer me. I said to myself, May your mother be bereft of you. O son of al-Khattab, you spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times and he did not answer you. So I got on my mount and went on ahead, fearing that something had been revealed concerning me. Then I heard someone calling out: O 'Umar! Where is ‘Umar? I went back, thinking that something had been revealed concerning me, and the Prophet ﷺ said: ʿYesterday a soorah was revealed to me that is dearer to me than this world and everything in it: ‘Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad ﷺ) a manifest victory. That Atlah may forgive you your sins of the past and the future' (al-Fath 48:1–2]. (Using translation from Aḥmad 209)

Messenger of Allah, (the time) of prayer overtakes me as I am in a state of junub; should I observe fast (in this state)? Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: (At times the time) of prayer overtakes me while I am in a state of junub, and I observe fast (in that very state), whereupon he said: Messenger of Allah, you are not like us Allah has pardoned all your sins, the previous ones and the later ones. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: By Allah, I hope I am the most God-fearirg of you, and possess the best knowledge among you of those (things) against which I should guard. [Machine] When this verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ , "Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], a clear conquest that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 2], he inquired from where the revelation came. The people answered from Hudaibiya, and they were feeling sadness and grief. The sacrifice had been slaughtered in Hudaibiya, so he said, "Certainly an Ayah has been revealed to me that is more beloved to me than the entire world." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, we have known what will happen to you, but what will happen to us?" So, the verse was revealed, "That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein eternally and remove from them their misdeeds – and ever is that, in the sight of Allah, a great attainment" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 5] to the statement, "a great reward" [Surah An-Nisa, verse 73]. The wording is for Amr.

A man was reciting Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied with two ropes beside him. A cloud came down and spread over that man, and it kept on coming closer and closer to him till his horse started jumping (as if afraid of something). When it was morning, the man came to the Prophet, and told him of that experience. The Prophet ﷺ said, "That was As-Sakina (tranquility) which descended because of (the recitation of) the Qur'an." [Machine] About these people who were killed by Ali at the Nahrawan, in what did he seek their compliance and in what did he separate from them and in what did he make their killing permissible? He said: We were at Siffin, and when the killings took place with the people of Sham, Amr ibn al-As said to Muawiyah, "Send to Ali the Quran and invite him to the Book of Allah, for he will not refuse you." So a man brought it to him and he said: "Between us and you is the Book of Allah" (Quran 3:23). Ali, ﷺ , said: "I have a greater right to it." Then the Khawarij came, and we called them on that day 'the Qurra' while their swords were on their shoulders. They said: "O Amir al-Mu'minin, what are we waiting for regarding these people who are on the hill? Shall we not go to them with our swords until Allah judges between us and them?" Sahl ibn Hunayf spoke and said: "O people, accuse yourselves. I have seen us on the day of Hudaybiyah, meaning the truce that was concluded between the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and the polytheists. Had we seen fighting, we would have fought." So Umar came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and said: "Are we upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? Are not our killing [for the sake of Allah] in Paradise and their killing in the Fire?" He said: "Yes." Umar asked: "Then why do we give them the material world in our religion and return it when Allah judges between us and them?" He said: "O son of Khattab, I am the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never let me down." He returned while furious, and he could not wait until he reached Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him. He said: "Are we upon the truth while they are upon falsehood? Are not our killing [for the sake of Allah] in Paradise and their killing in the Fire?" Abu Bakr said: "Yes." Umar asked: "Then why do we give them the material world in our religion and return it when Allah judges between us and them?" Abu Bakr said: "O son of Khattab, he is the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will never let him down." Then Surat al-Fath was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , sent it to Umar to recite it to him. Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it a victory?" He said: "Yes."

[Machine] He used to read, "When those who disbelieved had put in their hearts animosity - the animosity of ignorance." [Al-Fath 26]. And if you (Muslims) had been much and well to put up with (on the day of the conquest of Makkah), surely, the holy Mosque (Kaba) would have been destroyed. So Allah saved it from them and also the Prophet ﷺ informed about it. Then Umar added, "You surely know that I used to go in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him about the Qur'an and learn from what Allah had taught him." Umar said, "Nay, but you are a man, having knowledge and the Qur'an. Therefore, read it and learn from what Allah has taught you and his Messenger."

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ} [الفتح: 24]

[Machine] Some people from the people of Makkah descended upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the mountain of Tan'eem during the Fajr prayer. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took them and forgave them. And Allah revealed (the verse): "And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them" [Surah Al-Fath, verse 24].

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Hudaibiya, near the base of a tree. Allah said, "And as if I were a branch from the branches of that tree upon the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." So, I lifted it off his back, while Ali ibn Abi Talib and Suhayl ibn Amr were before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'" So Suhayl took his hand and said, "We don't know the 'Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' Write, 'In our case, write, in your name, O Allah.'" Then he said, "This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah." Then, he held his hand and said, "Indeed, we have wronged you if you are a Messenger. Write in our case, in your name, O Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah. I am the Messenger of Allah.'" So, he wrote. While we were like that, thirty young men came out towards us, armed, and they frown upon us. The Prophet ﷺ invoked upon them, and Allah seized their sights. So, we attacked them and seized them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "Have you come under the safety or covenant of anyone?" They replied, "No." So, he let them go. Then, Allah revealed, "And it is He who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them" (Quran 48:24) until "seeing" (Quran 4:58).

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] wanted to write to the Romans, but they (the Companions) said: 'They do not read any letter unless it has a seal.' So he took a ring of silver, and it is as if I can see its whiteness on his hand, and on it were engraved (the words): "Muhammad Rasul Allah (Muhammad the Messenger of Allah)."
