11. Fasting
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fasting is a shield, so when any one of you is fasting, let him neither indulge in obscene language nor raise his voice in anger. If someone attacks him or insults him, let him say, 'I am fasting.'"
Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is (exclusively) meant for Me and I (alone) will reward it. Fasting is a shield. When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting. By Him, in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to Allah on the Day of judgment than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts has two (occasions) of joy, one when he breaks the fast he is glad with the breaking of (the fast) and one when he meets his Lord he is glad with his fast. (Using translation from Muslim 1151d)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: If anyone does not abandon falsehood and action is accordance with it, Allah has no need that he should abandon his food and drink. The narrator Ahmad (b. Yunus) said: I learnt the chain of narrators from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, and a man by his side made me understand the tradition. I think he was his cousin. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2362)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fasting is not just refraining from eating and drinking, but it is also refraining from vain talk and indecent behavior. If someone insults or attacks you, or acts ignorantly towards you, then say, 'I am fasting.'"
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say: "Many are those who stand for prayer, but their share of standing is sleeplessness, and many are those who fast, but their share of fasting is hunger and thirst."
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Fasting is a shield, so long as you do not damage it."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2233)
