11. Fasting
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are restrained."
“When the first night of Ramadan comes, the satans and mischievous jinns are chained up, and the gates of the Fire are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. And a caller cries out: ‘O seeker of good, proceed, O seeker of evil, stop.’ And Allah has necks (people) whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every day.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1642)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The shade of Ramadan protects you from the heat of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. No month has passed over the Muslims that is better for them than it, nor has a month passed over the hypocrites that is worse for them than it. Indeed, Allah writes their rewards and voluntary acts of worship before they enter it, and He writes their sins and misfortunes before they enter it. This is because the believer counts his expenses for worship, while the hypocrite counts the faults of the Muslims and follows their weaknesses. So, it is a gain for the believer that the sinful person takes advantage of."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and said, "Ameen, ameen, ameen." It was said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, what made you do this?" He said, "Jibril came to me and said, 'Woe to the one who found the blessed month of Ramadan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness.' I said, 'Ameen.' Then he said, 'Woe to the one who found his parents in old age, one or both of them, and did not enter Paradise.' I said, 'Ameen.' Then he said, 'Woe to the one who is mentioned in your presence and does not send blessings upon you.' I said, 'Ameen.'"
(Note: This is a narration from the words of Abd Al-Aziz, and in another narration from Sulayman, he ascended the pulpit and said, "Woe to the one who found the blessed month of Ramadan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness.")
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever fasts Ramadan, familiarizes himself with its limits, and preserves what should be preserved in it, will have his previous sins forgiven."
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven." (Using translation from Bukhārī 38)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Allah ﷻ says: Every action of the son of Adam is for himself except for fasting, it is for Me and I am the one who rewards it. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the breath of the one who fasts is more pleasant to Allah ﷻ than the fragrance of musk."
[Machine] "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is more beloved to Allah than the scent of musk. Allah says, 'The fasting person abandons their desires, food, and drink for My sake. Fasting is for Me and I will reward it accordingly. Every good deed is rewarded ten times its value, up to seven hundred times, except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward it.'"
“Every good deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied manifold. A good deed will be multiplied ten times up to as many as seven hundred times, or as much as Allah wills. Allah says: ‘Except for fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it. He gives up his desire and his food for My sake.’ The fasting person has two joys, one when he breaks his fast and another when he meets his Lord. The smell that comes from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1638)
[Machine] "O Abu Muhammad, of what the Prophet ﷺ narrates from his Lord ﷻ, every action of the son of Adam is for him except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward for it." Ibn Uyaynah said, "This is one of the most excellent and firmest Hadiths. When the Day of Judgment comes, Allah ﷻ will hold His servant accountable and will fulfill the obligations due from the servant for the injustices committed in all his actions until nothing remains except for fasting. Allah ﷻ will then take upon Himself the responsibility for the remaining injustices and will admit the servant into Paradise through fasting."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, in Paradise there is a gate called Ar-Rayyan, through which only the fasting ones will enter on the Day of Resurrection. No one else will enter with them. It will be said, 'Where are the fasting ones?' and they will enter from it. When the last of them has entered, it will be closed, and no one else will enter with them."
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Verily, Paradise has eight gates, among them is a gate called Ar-Rayyan, which only the fasting ones enter."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad entered upon her, so she offered him food. He told her to eat, but she said she was fasting. He ﷺ said, "Indeed, when a fasting person is offered food in his presence, the angels pray for him until they finish or he finishes his meal."
[Machine] I heard Ubaid ibn Umayr saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the travelers. He replied, "They are the ones who are fasting."
