5. Fasting (14/18)
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I got burned. He asked him what happened to him. He said, "I broke my fast in Ramadan." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down and a man called Al-'Irbah, in which there were dates, was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked about the man and said, "Where is the one who got burned?" The man stood up and said, "Give this as charity."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I accidentally burned myself." He asked, "What happened?" The man replied, "I fell on my wife during Ramadan." So the Prophet ﷺ called for a container with food in it and said, "Where is the one who got burned? Take this and give it in charity."
5.166 [Machine] The variation of words used by narrators in the narration of Abu Huraira's story.
(A man broke his fast intentionally) during Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to emancipate a slave, or fast for two months, or feed sixty poor men. He said: I cannot provide. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Sit down. Thereafter a huge basket of dates ('araq) was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Take this and give it as sadaqah (alms). He said: Messenger of Allah, there is no poorer than I. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ thereupon laughed so that his canine teeth became visible and said: Eat it yourself. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Juraij narrated it from al-Zuhri in the wordings of the narrator Malik that a man broke his fast. This version says: You should either free a slave, or fast for two months, or provide food for sixty poor men. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2392)

[Machine] A man had intercourse with his wife during Ramadan, so he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have a slave to set free?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are you able to fast for two consecutive months?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then feed sixty poor people." Abu 'Abdul-Rahman (narrator) said, "This is the correct opinion, and the hadith of Ashhab from Layth is a mistake. It should be 'Ashhab narrated the hadith from Malik.'
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I am ruined!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "What is the matter with you?" He said, "I had sexual relation with my wife (while I was fasting) in Ramadan." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Have you got enough to manumit a slave?" He said, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Can you fast for two successive months?" The man said, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Can you feed sixty poor persons?" The man said, "No." Then the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Sit down," and he sat down. Afterwards an 'Irq, i.e., a big basket containing dates was brought to the Prophet ﷺ and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Take this and give it in charity." The man said, "To poorer people than we?" On that, the Prophet ﷺ smiled till his premolar teeth became visible, and then told him, "Feed your family with it." (See Hadith No. 157, Vol 3) (Using translation from Bukhārī 6709)
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I had sexual intercourse with my wife on Ramadan (while fasting)." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Can you fast for two successive months?" He replied in the negative. He asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative. (Abu Huraira added): Then a basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet ﷺ and he said (to that man), "Feed (poor people) with this by way of atonement." He said, "(Should I feed it) to poorer people than we? There is no poorer house than ours between its (Medina's) mountains." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then feed your family with it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1937)
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that he had committed adultery with his wife during Ramadan. The Prophet asked him, "Do you have a slave to free (as expiation)?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet then asked, "Can you fast for two consecutive months?" The man again replied, "No." The Prophet then said, "Feed sixty poor people." The man replied, "I cannot find that many." So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him a date and instructed him to give it in charity. The man mentioned his need to the Prophet, who then ordered him to take the date for himself.
5.167 [Machine] In the fasting person, there is vomiting, and mentioning the disagreements about Yahya ibn Abi Kathir in the narration of Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , regarding that.

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ sneezed, so I met Thawban in the mosque of Damascus and I asked him, so he said, "Yes, I poured water for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for his ablution." [316] 3112 Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub informed me, he said: Yazid ibn Harun informed us, he said: Hisham informed us from Yahya from Ya'ish ibn Al-Walid ibn Hisham that Ma'dan informed him that Abu Ad-Darda informed him that the Prophet ﷺ sneezed, so I met Thawban and I mentioned that to him, so he said, "I poured water for him for ablution."

[Machine] That messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "The time of iftar has come." So I met Thawban in the mosque of Damascus and I mentioned that to him. He said, "I poured water for the messenger of Allah, ﷺ , for his wudu." 3114 Obaid Allah ibn Sa'id al-Sarkhasi, also known as Abu Qudamah, informed us from Muadh ibn Hisham, who said, "My father narrated to me from Yahya, who said, "A man from our brothers informed me from Ya'ish ibn al-Walid, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Abu Darda, something similar to this." 3115 Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna informed us, saying, Ibn Abi Adiyy informed us, from Hisham, from Yahya, who said, "A man from our brothers informed me from Ya'ish ibn al-Walid that Ibn Ma'dan informed him something similar from the narration of Ibrahim."

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "If a fasting person vomits unintentionally, then there is no need for him to break his fast. But if he deliberately induces vomiting, then he must make up for that day." This saying was narrated by Ata.
[Machine] "Whoever vomits while fasting, should break their fast."
The Prophet ﷺ said: if one has a sudden attack of vomiting while one is fasting, no atonement is required of him, but if he vomits intentionally he must make atonement. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2380)

[Machine] It is reported that while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking in the Baqi' cemetery during Ramadan, he saw a man wearing a head cover or turban. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "The one wearing a head cover or turban has broken his fast." Mansur ibn Zadhan disagreed with this and narrated it from Abu Qilabah, who narrated it from Abu Al-Ash'ath, who narrated it from Shaddad.

[Machine] While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was holding my hand on a certain path for eighteen nights that had passed from Ramadan, he saw a man who was performing 'Ihtijam', so he said, "The one who performs 'Ihtijam' and the one on whom it is performed both break their fast." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman 'Abbad bin Mansur compiled both narrations and said that Abu Asma’ Thawban and Abu Al-Ash'ath narrated from Shaddad bin Aws.

[Machine] He was walking with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , in Medina during Ramadan, and the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , was holding the hand of Shaddad. They passed by a man who was fasting (abstaining from food and drink) by an impious practice, so the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "The one who practices impious fasting and the one who is forcibly prevented from fasting have both broken their fast." Abu Abdur-Rahman Abdullah ibn Mansur said: "There is no evidence for this hadith." And it was said that this narration is not among the earliest narrations about Ramadan fasting. However, Jarir differed from this and sent it [the narration] to Hammad ibn Zaid. Ubaidullah ibn Saeed said: "I heard Wahb ibn Jarir say: 'I presented to Abu Qilabah a book that included a narration about Shaddad ibn Aws and Thawban.' Abu Qilabah said: 'I presented it to Ayyub (ibn Abi Tamim), and he recognized it.' Abu Abdur-Rahman said: 'Hammad ibn Zaid narrated it from Shaddad and he is the most knowledgeable person about Ayyub.'"
