11. Fasting (8/14)
[Machine] Hijama (cupping) is disliked for the fasting person due to fear of weakness.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed the fasting person and the one who performs cupping to turn their faces away from the Qibla. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "All of them are trustworthy, except for the one who is not in the state of Ihram." The Sheikh said, "And it has been narrated from another face, from Abu al-Mutawakkil, in a raised manner."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ allowed cupping for the fasting person. Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us that Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz narrated to us, and he said Abu Ubaidullah al-Muaddal informed him, and he said that Al-Hasan ibn Khalaf al-Bazzaz narrated to him, and he said that Ishaq al-Azraq narrated to him, and he said that Sufyan mentioned it in a similar manner. Ali said, "All of them are trustworthy." Al-Ashja'i also narrated it and he is trustworthy. The sheikh said, "Except that Al-Ashja'i mentioned in his hadith."
[Machine] He was lenient with the fasting person regarding cupping and kissing, and it was also narrated from another source from Abu Sa'id.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Neither vomiting, nor emission, nor cupping breaks the fast of the one who is fasting. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2376)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three things that do not break the fast: vomiting, cupping, and having a wet dream."
[Machine] From the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ , from the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Whoever vomits, or has a nosebleed, or has a wet dream, it does not break his fast." Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan informed us, Abu Al-Qasim Sulayman ibn Ahmad informed us, Ishaaq Al-Dabari informed us, from Abdul Razzaq, from Al-Thawri, who mentioned it, and it has also been narrated from Al-Thawri in a similar narration by Abdul Rahman ibn Zaid, but it is not authentic. And we have also heard in the concession (i.e. allowance) regarding that from Saad ibn Abi Waqqas, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Abdullah ibn Abbas, Abdullah ibn Umar, Al-Husayn ibn Ali, Zaid ibn Arqam, Aisha bint Siddiq, Um Salama, and others.
11.82 [Machine] The hadith narrated about having breakfast with cupping.
[Machine] Narrated by Abu Bakr Al-Farisi, who narrated from Abu Ishaq Al-Asbahani, who narrated from Abu Ahmad ibn Farris, who narrated from Muhammad ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari, who narrated from Ayyash, who narrated from Abdul A'la, who narrated from Yunus, who narrated from Al-Hasan, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ : "Yes" and then he said, "Allah knows best."
[Machine] One of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who practices cupping and the one who is cupped both break their fast." Ali said,
The Prophet ﷺ as saying: A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Thawban transmitted a similar tradition from his father on the authority of Makhul through an chain of narrators mentioned by him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2371)
[Machine] Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, narrated: I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for eighteen nights in the month of Ramadan, and then we came across a man getting his hair shaved in Al-Baqi'. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one who gets his hair shaved and the one who gets his hair trimmed have broken their fast." And likewise...
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The one who uses a cupping glass and the one who has cupping done to them have broken their fast." Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Yahya ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Sukkari informed us in Baghdad, Ismail ibn Muhammad al-Saffar narrated to us, on the authority of Ahmad ibn Mansur, on the authority of Abdul Razzaq, who mentioned it in similar fashion.
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon a man in Al-Baqi' who was performing Ruku' (bowing) and he had grasped his hand for eighteen nights of Ramadan that had passed. The Hajim (one who performs Hajj) said, "The one performing Hajj and the one performing Umrah have broken their fast." Abu Dawood said, and Khaled Al-Hadha' from Abi Qilaba through the chain of Ayyub like this narration. Imam Ahmad said, and Asim Al-Ahwal also narrated from Abi Qilaba from Abi Al-Ash'ath from Shaddad, and it is as if Abi Qilaba heard the hadith from both men. And it has been said about Asim from Abi Qilaba from Abi Al-Ash'ath from Abi Asma'a from Shaddad.
[Machine] I passed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in eighteen days of Ramadan and I saw a man who was doing the acts of Hajj. He said, "The person performing Hajj and the person performing Umrah have broken their fast." 8284 Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us that Abu Muhammad Al-Azharani narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Al-Bara narrated to us, he said Ali ibn Al-Madini said, "He did not see the two Hadiths except as Sahih, and it is possible that Abu Asma heard it from them." Imam Ahmad said, and it was narrated from another source from Abu Asma from Thawban.
[Machine] On the authority of Thawban, a freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man in Al-Baqi' who was observing I'tikaf for eighteen or sixteen days from Ramadan.
[Machine] I entered upon Abu Musa al-Ash'ari while he was performing itikaf at night in Ramadan, and I said, "Wasn't this during the day?" He replied, "Are you commanding me to shed my blood while I am fasting? I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The one observing itikaf and the one preventing others from entering itikaf should break their fast at such and such time."

Qabisah also narrated it from Fitri ibn Khalifah, who narrated from Ata'a, who narrated from Ibn Abbas, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ .

11.84 [Machine] What can be used as evidence for abrogating Hadith?
[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the year of the conquest, and a man came by who had fasted eighteen or seventeen days of the month of Ramadan. He was feeling weak and exhausted. So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He breaks his fast and so does the one who compels [others to fast]."
[Machine] We were with the Prophet (PBUH) during the time of conquest when he saw a man who had shaved off only eighteen days from Ramadan. He said, while holding his hand, "This man has broken his fast, as well as the one who plucked his hair."
[Machine] That Prophet ﷺ performed the hijama (cupping) while in a state of ihram and fasting. Al-Shafi'i and Ibn Abbas narrated from the Prophet ﷺ in the year of the conquest, and it was not a day of ihram then, nor was he accompanied by anyone in ihram who was not already in a state of ihram before the Hajj of Islam. Ibn Abbas mentioned the Prophet's ﷺ hijama in the year of the Hajj of Islam in the tenth year. The hadith of the hajjim and mahjum (cupper and the one who is cupped) fasting is from two years before the Hajj of Islam. If they are both proven, then the hadith of Ibn Abbas is abrogating, and the hadith of the hajjim and mahjum is abrogated. Al-Shafi'i said: The chain of narration for both hadiths combined is dubious, and the hadith of Ibn Abbas is the most similar to them in terms of chain of narration. If a person refrains from hijama, it is more preferable to me as a precautionary measure so that his fasting is not compromised and weakened, and in case he is cupped, the hijama should not break his fast. Along with the hadith of Ibn Abbas, there is the analogy that I memorized from some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and the tabi'in and most of the people of Madinah, which is that no one's fast is broken by hijama.
[Machine] That Ja'far ibn Abi Talib decided to get cupped while he was fasting. The Prophet ﷺ passed by him and said, "Did these two break their fast?" Then the Prophet ﷺ allowed cupping for the one who is fasting. Anas used to get cupped while he was fasting. Ali ibn Umar ad-Daraqutni said, "All of them are trustworthy and I do not know of any reason [to prohibit cupping while fasting]." The scholar said, "The hadith of Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri, with the wording of permission, indicates this. Indeed, the majority is that permission [for cupping] comes after the prohibition. Allah knows best."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man who was performing hijama (cupping) and he was lending money to someone. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Has the one performing hijama and the one having hijama done to him broken their fast?" His saying was in reference to the man lending money. I have not come across this except in this hadith, and others may add to it.

[Machine] Ali said to Umar, "Oh Commander of the Believers, have you ordered the stoning of so-and-so?" Umar replied, "Yes." Ali then said, "Don't you remember the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , 'The pen has been lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes up, the child until he reaches puberty, and the insane until he regains sanity?'" Umar responded, "Yes." So he revoked the order.

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fasting is a shield, so when any one of you is fasting, let him neither indulge in obscene language nor raise his voice in anger. If someone attacks him or insults him, let him say, 'I am fasting.'"
Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is (exclusively) meant for Me and I (alone) will reward it. Fasting is a shield. When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting. By Him, in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to Allah on the Day of judgment than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts has two (occasions) of joy, one when he breaks the fast he is glad with the breaking of (the fast) and one when he meets his Lord he is glad with his fast. (Using translation from Muslim 1151d)

So whoever volunteers good, let him feed another poor person, and that is better for him and it is not abrogated. Ibn Abbas said, and it was only allowed in this case for the elderly who cannot bear fasting and for the sick who know that they will not be cured.
[Machine] He is the elderly sheikh who cannot fast, so he breaks his fast and feeds half a saa' of wheat for each day, as mentioned in this narration. It is also narrated from him that he said, "Extend for his food and extend for his sustenance."
[Machine] Every day a poor person should not be neglected or abandoned.
[Machine] "He heard Abu Hurairah say that whoever experiences old age and is unable to fast during the month of Ramadan, then they must feed a poor person for each missed day, with a measure of wheat."
[Machine] Anas reported that a year before his death, the Prophet ﷺ had become weak and broke his fast. He then instructed his family to feed a poor person in place of every missed day. Hisham, in his narration, said that the Prophet ﷺ fed thirty poor individuals.
[Machine] We prepared for him loaves of bread and meat, so we fed him the exact amount or even more, meaning thirty men per day.
[Machine] "To feed a poor person every day, so feed two poor people on my behalf."
[Machine] "In his statement, {and upon those who are able to do so is a ransom of feeding a needy person} [Surah Al-Baqarah 184]. He said that it refers to the elderly who are unable to fast and pregnant women who experience difficulty in fasting. For them, they are to feed a needy person for every day of Ramadan until the end of the month."
[Machine] Amr, who was a mawla (freed slave) of Aisha, used to read, and those who were surrounding him had to pay a ransom.
11.90 [Machine] Miswak for fasting individuals
[Machine] I cannot estimate or count how many times I have seen the Prophet of Allah ﷺ performing miswak while fasting.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best qualities of the fasting person are using the Siwak (toothstick) and being consistent in its use. There is nothing more effective and restraining than it, and Aasim bin 'Ubaydullah is not strong in physique, and Allah knows best. As for the hadith that..."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "This hadith is narrated exclusively by Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Baytar, also known as Ibrahim ibn Abdul Rahman Qadi Khwarazm. He narrated it in Balkh from Aasim al-Ahwal al-Manakir. It cannot be relied upon, as it has been reported from him in another way that does not mention the beginning or end of the day."
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , Abu Ahmad Ibrahim said that his general hadiths are not preserved.
[Machine] I have never seen anyone more disciplined than you while fasting than you in the years I have known you," he said with a dry stick in his hand.
