[Machine] "We entered upon Mu'awiyah and the caller announced the prayer, saying 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar'. Mu'awiyah said 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar'. Then he said 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah' (I testify that there is no god but Allah). Mu'awiyah said 'Wa ana ashhadu' (And I testify to that). Abu 'Amir said 'And I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. Mu'awiyah said 'Wa ana ashhadu' (And I testify to that). Abu 'Amir said 'And I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. Yahya reported that a man told him that when Mu'awiyah said 'Hayya 'ala as-salah' (Come to prayer), he then said 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (There is no power or strength except with Allah). Mu'awiyah said, 'This is how I heard your Prophet ﷺ say'."
Mu'awiya came to Medina and he addressed us and he took out a bunch of hair and said: What do I see that one of you does but that what the Jews did? (I can well recall) that when this act (adding of artificial hair) reached Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he named it as cheating. (Using translation from Muslim 2127c)
AbuMijlaz said: Mu'awiyah went out to Ibn az-Zubayr and Ibn Amir. Ibn Amir got up and Ibn az-Zubayr remained sitting. Mu'awiyah said to Ibn Amir: Sit down, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Let him who likes people to stand up before him prepare his place in Hell. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5229)
"I was with Mu'awiyah when the Mu'adhdhin called the Adhan. Muawiyah said what the Mu'adhdhin said, but when he said: 'Hayya 'alas-salah (come to prayer),' he said: 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah (There is no power and no strength except with Allah);' and when he said: 'Hayya 'alal-falah (come to prosperity),' he said: 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah (There is no power and no strength except with Allah).' After that he said what the Mu'adhdhin said, then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying exactly like that.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 677)
[Machine] "I was not able to do anything when I was in a state of peace and safety, and I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: 'Faith restricts killing. So how can I be in a situation where I am in between you and your needs?' Saalih said: 'Let us and them be until we meet our Lord ﷻ.'"
[Machine] I was among a group of companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with Muawiya. Muawiya said, "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing silk?" They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He said, "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing gold except in small amounts?" They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He said, "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade riding on tigers?" They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He said, "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from silver utensils?" They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He said, "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade combining Hajj and Umrah?" They said, "As for this, no." He said, "Indeed, it is combined with them."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When Allah intends good for a servant, He grants him understanding of the religion."
What makes you sit here? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah. He said: I adjure you by Allah (to tell me whether you are sitting here for this very purpose)? They said: By Allah, we are sitting here for this very purpose. Thereupon, he said: I have not demanded you to take an oath, because of any allegation against you and none of my rank in the eye of Messenger of Allah ﷺ is the narrator of so few ahadith as I am. The fact is that Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the circle of his Companions and said: What makes you sit? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah and to praise Him for He guided us to the path of Islam and He conferred favours upon us. Thereupon he adjured by Allah and asked if that only was the purpose of their sitting there. They said: By Allah, we are not sitting here but for this very purpose, whereupon he (the Messenger) said: I am not asking you to take an oath because of any allegation against you but for the fact that Gabriel came to me and he informed me that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, was talking to the angels about your magnificence. (Using translation from Muslim 2701)
[Machine] Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan ibn Harb took a lock of hair from the Prophet's head during the ten days of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, using a pair of scissors, while he was in a state of Ihram (pilgrim sanctity), and people disapproved of that.
[Machine] Narrated by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he says, "Those are the words that he rarely leaves or speaks to the public about, from the Prophet ﷺ . He said, 'Whoever Allah wishes good for, He grants him understanding in the religion. Indeed, this wealth is sweet and green. So whoever takes it with its rightful due, it will be blessed for him. And beware of praising others excessively, as it is akin to slaughtering them.'"

No matter how far ahead of you I bow, you will catch up with me when I stand up, and no matter how far ahead of you I prostrate, you will catch up with me when I raise my head. I have become bulky.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 963)

[Machine] Muawiyah on the minbar: O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You give, and no one who can give what You prevent. And the wisdom of this matter is not of any benefit if it does not come from You. Whoever You want to bestow good upon, You make them understand the religion. I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on this minbar.

Should I narrate to you the evil make-up. Allah's Apostle ﷺ forbade cheating. It was during that time that a person came with a staff and there was a cloth on its head, whereupon Mu, awiya said: Behold, that is cheating. Qatada said: This implies how women artificially increase their hair with the help of rags. (Using translation from Muslim 2127d)

It has been related by, Yazid b. al-Asamm that he heard Mu'awiya b. Abu Sfyan quote a tradition from the Prophet ﷺ which he related from the Prophet (mail peace he upon him) -and he did not hear him quote from the Prophet (masy peace be upon him) any tradition other than this in the course of his sermon from the pulpit-that whom Allah wants to do a favour, He grants him an understanding of religion. A group of people from the Muslims will remain on the Right Path and continue until the Day of Judgment to triumph over those who oppose them. (Using translation from Muslim 1037d)

That while he was with a delegation from Quraish to Muawiya, the latter heard the news that ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr bin Al-ʿAs said that there would be a king from the tribe of Qahtan. On that Muawiya became angry, got up and then praised Allah as He deserved, and said, "Now then, I have heard that some men amongst you narrate things which are neither in the Holy Book, nor have been told by Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Those men are the ignorant amongst you. Beware of such hopes as make the people go astray, for I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Authority of ruling will remain with Quraish, and whoever bears hostility to them, Allah will destroy him as long as they abide by the laws of the religion.' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 3500)

Al-Abbas ibn Abdullah ibn al-Abbas married his daughter to Abdur Rahman ibn al-Hakam, and AbdurRahman married his daughter to him. And they made this (exchange) their dower. Mu'awiyah wrote to Marwan commanding him to separate them. He wrote in his letter: This is the shighar which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2075)
[Machine] "When Muawiyah came to us as a pilgrim, we accompanied him to Mecca. He prayed Dhuhr (afternoon prayer) with us, two units of prayer, then he went to the house of Al-Nadwah (a place in Mecca). Uthman, when he completed the prayer, used to pray Dhuhr, Asr (afternoon prayer), and Isha (evening prayer) in Mecca, four units each. But when he went out to Mina and Arafat, he would shorten the prayer. When he finished the Hajj and stayed in Mina, he would complete the prayer until he left Mecca. When Muawiyah prayed Dhuhr, two units of prayer with us, Marwan bin Al-Hakam and Amr bin Uthman came to him and said, 'No one has criticized your cousin with something worse than what you have criticized him with.' Muawiyah asked, 'What is that?' They said, 'Did you not know that he used to pray the complete prayer in Mecca?' Muawiyah replied, 'Woe to you, was it not what I did? I prayed them with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , with Abu Bakr and Umar.' They said, 'Indeed, your cousin used to complete them and your opposing him in this is a fault.' Muawiyah then went out and prayed Asr, four units of prayer, with us."

[Machine] Muawiyah took possession of the two southern corners (of the Kaaba) which were handed over to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . Ibn Abbas said, "There is nothing abandoned of its pillars." Hajjaj said, "Shu'bah narrated that people differ in understanding this hadith, and they say that Muawiyah is the one who said, 'There is nothing abandoned of its pillars,' but in fact he memorized it from Qatadah like this."
The Prophet ﷺ said: If they (the people) drink wine, flog them, again if they drink it, flog them. Again if they drink it, kill them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4482)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say about these occasions, "O Allah, there is no preventer for what You have given, and no giver for what You have prevented. Whomsoever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion."
"I heard Mu'awiyah bin Abu Sufyan say that Messenger of Allah said: "The Mu'adh-dhin will have the longest necks of all people on the Day of Resurrection." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 725)
[Machine] "There is no god but Allah, He is One. Abu Umamah bore witness to this twice, and the muadhin (caller to prayer) bore witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Abu Umamah then turned to me and said, 'This is how Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah.'"
[Machine] He informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had trimmed his hair with a pair of scissors. So we asked Ibn Abbas, "We only heard this from Muawiyah." He said, "Muawiyah was never accused of doing anything against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
[Machine] "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade riding on the skins of tigers? They said, 'O Allah, yes.' He said, 'And do you know that he forbade wearing gold except for a piece that is cut? They said, 'O Allah, yes.' He said, 'And do you know that he forbade drinking from vessels made of gold and silver?' They said, 'O Allah, yes.' He said, 'And do you know that he forbade sexual pleasure, meaning the pleasure of the temporary marriage?' They said, 'O Allah, no.'"
[Machine] "He saw Muawiyah giving a sermon on the pulpit, holding in his hand a lock of hair. He said, 'Where are your scholars, O people of the city?' I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , forbidding such actions and saying, 'The Children of Israel were punished when their women adopted such practices.'"
I offered the Friday prayer along with him in enclosure. When I uttered the salutation I stood up in my place and prayed. When he went in, he sent me a message saying: Never again do what you have done. When you pray the Friday prayer, you must not join another prayer to it till you have engaged in conversation or gone out, for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ gave the precise command not to join on prayer till you have engaged in conversation or gone out. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1129)
[Machine] He heard Muawiyah giving a sermon in Medina, saying, "O people of Medina, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'This is the day of Ashura, and fasting it is not obligatory upon us. So whoever among you wants to fast, let him fast. As for me, I am fasting, and the people are fasting as well."
[Machine] He (Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan) heard on the day of Ashura during the year of his Hajj while he was on the pulpit, so he mentioned the narration.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the drinker of wine, "If he drinks wine, then flog him. If he drinks again, flog him. If he drinks a third time, flog him. And if he drinks a fourth time, strike his neck."
[Machine] He informed him, saying, "I shortened from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a pair of scissors on Al-Marwah, or I saw him being shortened from it with a pair of scissors on Al-Marwah."
[Machine] He informed them that he was sitting with a group of the Ansar when Muawiyah came to them and asked them about their conversation. They replied, "We were discussing a matter among the Ansar." Muawiyah said, "Shall I tell you a hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" They answered, "Yes, O Amir al-Mu'minin." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever loves the Ansar, Allah loves him. And whoever hates the Ansar, Allah hates him.'"
[Machine] He informed me that he heard Muawiyah on the pulpit in Mecca saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid wearing gold and silk.
[Machine] I heard Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan saying while delivering a sermon, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away when he was sixty-three years old, Abu Bakr passed away when he was sixty-three years old, and Umar passed away when he was sixty-three years old." Mu'awiyah then said, "And today I am in my sixty-third year."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When Allah intends good for His servant, He grants him understanding of the religion."
[Machine] Abdullah informed us that I found these words at the end of this narration in the book of my father, written in his handwriting, connected to him. And he had written it, so I do not know whether I should recite it or not. Indeed, the listener who obeys has no excuse, and indeed, the listener who disobeys has no excuse.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever dies without an Imam, dies the death of Jahiliyyah."
[Machine] Mu'awiyah performed Hajj and gathered a group of companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Kaaba. He said, "I ask you about some matters, so inform me. I swear to Allah, did the Messenger of Allahﷺ prohibit wearing silk?" They said, "Yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He then said, "I swear to Allah, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibit wearing gold?" They said, "Yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that." He continued, "I swear to Allah, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibit wearing the skins of leopards?" They said, "Yes." He said, "And I bear witness to that."
