8. Shāmīs
Messenger of Allah, it is a lizard. Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew his hand, whereupon Khalid b. Walid said: Messenger of Allah, is a lizard forbidden? There opon he said: No, but it is not found in the land of my people, and I feel that I have no liking for it. Khalid said: I then chewed and ate it, and Messenger of Allah ﷺ was looking at me and he did not forbid (me to eat it). (Using translation from Muslim 1946a)
[Machine] "We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Battle of Khaybar, and people rushed to the Jewish fortresses. He commanded me to call for congregational prayer and said that no one enters Paradise except a Muslim. Then he said, 'O people, you have hurried to the Jewish fortresses. Do not take the wealth of the treaty people except with its due right. And it is forbidden for you to eat meat of domestic donkeys, horses, and their offspring, and any animal with fangs, and any bird with talons."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the flesh of horses, mules and donkeys.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3198)
[Machine] I fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Battle of Khaybar. The people rushed towards the Jewish fortresses, and I heard someone saying, "O Khalid, announce to the people that prayer is a collective duty, and that only Muslims will enter Paradise." So I did as he instructed and stood up among the people. I said, "O people, what is the matter with you? Why did you rush towards the Jewish fortresses so quickly? Beware that the wealth of the treaty-holders is not permissible except what is rightfully due, and it is forbidden for you to take the camels, livestock, horses, mares, and any animals with fangs from the lions and any birds with talons."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Indeed, the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection is for the people who inflict the severest punishment on others in this world."
[Machine] Amir al-Mu'minin wrote to me when he conquered Sham, sending me perfumes, honey, and a silk garment. He expressed his concerns about starting a campaign to India, and mentioned that India was within us during that time. Basra was his reason for doing so. I expressed my objection to it. Then, a man stood up and said to me, "O Abu Sulayman, fear Allah, for the trials have appeared." He said, "And the son of al-Khattab is alive, the trials will only come after him, and people will have two options, either they will be like Biliyan or they will be in a place like Biliyan." The man looked around and wondered if he could find a place where he would not be affected by the trials and evils, but he could not find it. He said, "Those are the days that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned, the days of turmoil. We seek refuge in Allah from those days, may we not be overtaken by them."
[Machine] There was some discussion between Ammar and Khalid ibn al-Walid. Ammar complained about it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Whoever reviles Ammar, Allah will revile him. Whoever hates him, Allah will hate him. And whoever insults him, Allah will insult him." Salamah or someone similar said this.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The trustworthy of this nation is Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah." Abu Ubaidah said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'Khalid is a sword among the swords of Allah, and what an excellent young man he is in the tribe.'"
