8. Shāmīs
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: The one who is well grounded in Allah's Book and is distinguished among them in recitation should act as; Imam for the people. and if they are equally versed in reciting it, then the one who has most knowledge regarding Sunnah; if they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest one to emigrate; If they emigrated at the same time, then the oldest one in age. No man must lead another in prayer in latter's house or where (the latter) has authority, or sit in his place of honour in his house, except that he gives you permission or with his permission. (Using translation from Muslim 673c)
[Machine] A man came to Allah and asked him, "What have you done in the world?" The man replied, "I have not done any good deeds, not even the weight of an atom, but I hope that you will forgive me for it." Allah said to him three times, "Did you ever receive any favor from me in the world, such as wealth, that you would lend to people and overlook their debts? Did you ever help those in need and show kindness to the less fortunate?" The man replied, "Yes, my Lord, I have done all of those things." Allah said, "We are more deserving of that than you. Forgive my servant." Abu Mas'ud said, "This is what I heard from the Messenger of Allah." Another man was commanded by his family, upon his death, to burn his body, grind it, and scatter it on a windy day. They did as commanded, and his remains were gathered to Allah. Allah asked him, "What made you do this?" The man replied, "O Lord, no one disobeyed You more than I did. I hoped for salvation." Allah said, "Forgive my servant." Abu Mas'ud said, "This is what I heard from the Messenger of Allah."
“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! I stay behind and do not perform the morning prayer (in congregation) because of so-and-so, for he makes it too long for us.’ I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ preaching with such anger as he did that day. He said; ‘O people! There are among you those who repel others. Whoever among you leads others in prayer, let him keep it short, for among them are those who are weak and elderly, and those who have pressing needs.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 984)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ pointed with his hand towards Yemen and said, "Iman (faith) is here." He added, "Verily, harshness and hardness of hearts are found among the owners of camels, where the horns of the devil come up, namely Baidah and Madar." Muhammad ﷺ said, "This is near the lower parts of the tails of the camels."
[Machine] It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, how should we send blessings upon you?" He said, "Say, 'O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bestow peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have bestowed peace upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.' " I recited this narration to Abdul Rahman Malik, from Nuaim ibn Abdullah, that Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Zaid informed him from Abu Mas'ud.
“Whoever recites the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqarah at night, that will be sufficient for him.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1369)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said, "Indeed, this matter is within you, and you are the custodians of it. It will not cease to exist among you until you introduce changes. And when you do so, Allah will send upon you the evil of His creation, causing you to be vulnerable and feeble, just as a stick is debilitated."
"The Messenger of Allah forbade the price of a dog, the gift of a female fornicator and the fees of a fortuneteller."( Sahih) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4292)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the Tahajjud prayer at the beginning of the night, in the middle of it, and at the end of it.
[Machine] A man approached and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while we were with him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, we already know how to greet you with peace, so how should we send blessings upon you when we have already prayed and Allah has blessed you?" The Messenger of Allah remained silent until we thought that the man had not asked him properly. Then he said, "If you have prayed upon me, then say, 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muhammad, as You have sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. And bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The prayer of a man or anyone who does not straighten his back during bowing and prostration is not accepted."
[Machine] That Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari, companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, is the brother of Bani Al-Harith ibn Al-Khazraj. He is the grandfather of Zaid ibn Al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib. His mother's name is Ummi. He mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited them from selling dogs and participating in the price of a dog, as well as from consuming the earnings of a fortune-teller.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "How awful is a man's journey!"
[Machine] We have Abu Mas'ud Al-Badri, should I not pray to you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said, "Then he recited the takbir and bowed down, placing his hands on his knees, spreading his fingers on his legs, and moving away from his armpits until everything settled. Then he said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him," and stood erect until everything settled. Then he recited the takbir, prostrated, and moved away from his armpits until everything settled. Then he raised his head and sat down until everything settled. Then he prostrated the second time and prayed four units of prayer with us, like this." He said, "This was the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or he said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so prolongs our prayer to the extent that I am delayed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry, such anger that I had never seen in a sermon. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Indeed, among you are those who cause people to dislike (praying), so whoever leads a group of people in prayer, let him shorten it for them, for behind them there may be an elderly person, a sick person, or someone with urgent needs."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ set out with his uncle Al-Abbas to meet with the seventy Ansar individuals at Al-Aqaba, under the tree. He said, "Let your spokesperson speak and not give lengthy speeches, for you are being watched by the pagans. If they discover your intentions, they will expose you." Then Abu Umamah, their spokesperson, said, "O Muhammad, ask whatever you wish from your Lord, then ask for yourself and your companions, and inform us of what reward is reserved for us from Allah if we do that." The Prophet replied, "I ask you to worship Allah and not associate anything with Him, and I ask you to give refuge and support to me and my companions, and to prevent us from what you prevent yourselves from." They asked, "What reward will we have if we do that?" He said, "You will have Paradise." They responded, "Then it is for you."
[Machine] And Abu Mas'ud was the youngest among them in age.
[Machine] "The elderly heard the sermon, not the youth, like it."
[Machine] 'Uqbah bin 'Amr said, "Shall I not show you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He stood up, then he said the takbir and then he bowed, putting his hands on his knees and spreading his fingers behind his knees until everything settled from it. Then he raised his head and stood until everything settled from him. Then he prostrated, spreading his hands until everything settled from him. He said, "I prayed four units (raka'at) like this. That is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying or that is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray with us."
When a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward for it from Allah, it counts for him as sadaqa. (Using translation from Muslim 1002a)
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A man among those before you was called to reckon and nothing good was found with him. Except that he was a wealthy man so he used to mix with the pople and he would tell his servant to be lenient with the insolvent. So Allah, Mighty and Sublime is He, said: 'We are more worthy of that than him, so be lenient with him.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1307)
A man came to the prophet (May peace be upon him) and said: Messenger of Allah! I have been left without a mount. So give me a mount. He replied: I have no mount to give, but go to so and so; he may perhaps give you a mount. He then went to him and he gave him a mount. He came to the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) and informed him about it. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) said: if anyone guides someone to a good (deed), he will get the reward like the reward of the one who does it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5129)
[Machine] A man from the Ansar who was known as Abu Shuayb said, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and noticed hunger in his face. So, I ordered a young servant who was a butcher to prepare food for five men. Then, I invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and four others. Another man followed them. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the door, he said, 'This man has followed us. If you wish, permit him, otherwise, he will go back.' So, permission was granted to him."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have been afflicted with something that made me unable to continue. Please carry me." Then he mentioned the saying.
[Machine] While I was hitting a slave of mine, I heard a voice from behind me, so I knew it was Abu Mas'ud. I turned around and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He said, "By Allah, Allah is more capable of overpowering you than you are of overpowering him." Then I swore that I would never hit a slave again.

[Machine] Abu Mas'ood said, "By Allah, O Mugheera, I know that Jibreel ﷺ descended and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and the people prayed with him. Then Jibreel descended and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and the people prayed with him again, until they counted five prayers. Umar asked him, "Look at what you are saying, O Urwah. Is it that Jibreel is more knowledgeable about the times of prayer?" Urwah said, "That's how Bashir bin Abu Mas'ood narrated to me." Umar continued to learn the prayer times through a sign until he departed from this world."

No man must lead another in prayer in latter's house or where (the latter) has authority, or sit in his place of honour in his house, except that he gives you permission or with his permission.
