8.40 [Machine] My father asked about his father

٨۔٤٠ حديث أبي الأحوص عن أبيه

ahmad:17228Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah Marratayn > Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ ʿAmr b. ʿAmr from his uncle Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from his father

[Machine] I came to the Prophet (PBUH) and he looked at me attentively and said, "Are you the owner of a herd of camels or sheep?" I replied, "From both, Allah has blessed me with abundance and excellence." He said, "Then you should give their offspring in charity, even with good eyesight and ears. Give them as charities, and Allah will reward you accordingly. Then Sufyan uttered a word that I did not understand and said, "May it be a blessing from Allah?" Then Allah's Messenger answered, "May Allah help you the most. Mousa (Moses) helped his family members the most. If you want, I can bring the offspring to you right now." I asked, "To whom should I call?" He replied, "Call them to Allah and to the ties of kinship." I said, "A man from my tribe came to me and I swore not to give him, should I still give it to him?" The Prophet said, "Make amends for your vow and give to the one who is better. What if you had two servants, one obeys you, does not betray you, does not lie to you, and the other betrays you and lies to you?" I said, "No, but the one who does not betray or lie to me and speaks the truth is more beloved to me." He said, "That is how you are in the sight of your Lord."

[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a garment or two garments on me, and he asked me, "Do you have any wealth?" I said, "Yes, Allah has given me from all His wealth, from his horses and camels, and sheep and slaves." He said, "So when Allah has given you wealth, let his blessings be seen upon you." I rejoiced in it, wearing it with pride.

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I stayed with a man who did not entertain me nor behave hospitably with me. Then he came to stay with me, shall I reciprocate the same to him?' He ( ﷺ said: 'No, entertain him." He said: 'He ( ﷺ saw me wearing tattered clothes and said:'(Do you have any wealth?' I said: 'Allah has given me various kinds of wealth through camels and goats.' The Prophet ﷺ said: Hands are of three types: Allah's hand is the upper one; the bestower's hand is the one near it; the beggar's hand is the lower one. So bestow what is surplus, and do not submit yourself to the demand of your soul. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1649)
