5. Fasting (17/18)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When any of you is invited to a meal, let him respond. If he was fasting, let him pray before eating, and if he was not fasting, let him eat." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said, "He ﷺ would pray with us and then eat, and he would make dua (supplication) for the fasting person and exert himself."
Note: The passage is a narration about the and etiquettes of accepting an invitation to a meal and the recommended actions for a fasting person and a non-fasting person.
[Machine] "It remained silent during Ramadan, so the Prophet ﷺ commanded it to break its fast."
[Machine] About fasting in Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ commanded her to make up for it with two days.
[Machine] Aisha does not do anything until I remind her, and then she considers it her duty to fast for a day or two.
5.202 [Machine] In Ramadan, the forgetful person eats
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "If a person who is fasting happens to eat or drink forgetfully, then let him complete his fasting, for indeed it is Allah who has fed him and given him drink." (Hadith 3263) Isaac ibn Ibrahim informed us that Isa ibn Yunus narrated from Hisham who narrated from Muhammad who narrated from Abu Hurairah, who heard the Prophet ﷺ saying similar words to the above.
[Machine] Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah feeds and provides drink for the person who eats and drinks forgetfully in the month of Ramadan.” Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman said, “This is a rejected narration from the hadith of Muhammad ibn ‘Amr.”
5.203 [Machine] The sin of whoever breaks fast before the time of breaking fast, and the mention of the disagreement among narrators about the narration of Abu Hurairah in that disagreement, with Sufyan.

the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever breaks the fast during Ramadan without an allowance or illness, then if he fasted for all time, his fasting would not make up for it." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 723)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever breaks their fast for one day in Ramadan without a valid excuse or permission, they cannot make it up even if they were to fast for the entire year." Abdullah ibn Shihab narrated this hadith and added, "without being sick."
5.204 [Machine] The mention of differences within a branch
The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone breaks his fast one day in Ramadan without a concession granted to him by Allah, a perpetual fast will not atone for it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2396)

[Machine] "The fasting of the voluntary (sunnah) is not accepted from him." This was stated by Abdurrahman ibn Ya'qub.
[Machine] Whoever breaks their fast during a day of Ramadan without making up for it, will not make up for it with a day from the days of this worldly life.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "While I was sleeping, two men came to me and held my two thumbs." And he narrated the Hadith and said, "Then they took me and I saw people hanging from their hamstrings, with their jaws torn apart and their jaws dripping blood." I said, "Who are these?" He said, "These are the ones who break their fast before its time." He said, "The Jews and the Christians are doomed." Sulaym (the narrator) said, "I do not know if Abu Umamah heard anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or if it was his own opinion summarized."
“When her husband is present, no woman should fast any day apart from the month of Ramadan without his permission.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1761)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A woman should not observe fasting if her husband is present, except with his permission."

5.205 [Machine] What should the voluntary faster do when they break their fast
Some food was presented to me and Hafsah. We were fasting, but broke our fast. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us. We said to him: A gift was presented to us; we coveted it and we broke our fast. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: There is no harm to you; keep a fast another day in lieu of it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2457)
5.206 [Machine] The mention of a disagreement about Al-Zuhri in this hadith.
"Hafsah and I were both fasting when we were presented some food that we really wanted, so we ate from it. The Messenger of Allah came, and Hafsah beat me to him - she was the daughter of her father - and she said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We were both fasting when we were presented with some food that we wanted, so we ate from it.' He said: 'Make up another day in its place.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 735)
[Machine] "A sheep was gifted to Hafsah while we were fasting, so she allowed me to break my fast. She was the daughter of her father. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us, we mentioned this to him, and he said, 'Exchange that day with another.' Muhammad ibn Mansur informed us, Sufyan narrated to us, we heard it from Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar, from al-Zuhri, from Uruwah, from Aisha, she said, 'Hafsah and I were both fasting, and food was presented to us with great eagerness.' Sufyan said, they asked al-Zuhri, and I was present, is it from Uruwah? He said, 'No.' Abu Abd al-Rahman said, 'The correct narration is from Ibn Uyaynah, from al-Zuhri, and Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar is weak in the narration of al-Zuhri and in other than al-Zuhri. Sufyan ibn Husayn and Ja'far ibn Burqan are not strong narrators in the narration of al-Zuhri, but there is no problem with them in other than al-Zuhri.'"
[Machine] It was given to her and to Hafsah some food, and they were fasting, so they broke their fast. Hafsah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she was the daughter of Umar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered her to fast another day in place of it. Yahya bin Ayyub said, "I also heard Salih bin Kaysan narrating the same Hadith, and I found it with me in another place." Salih bin Kaysan and Yahya bin Sa'id narrated it similarly. This is also an error.
[Machine] I became fasting, me and Hafsah. Some food was gifted to us and we liked it, so we broke our fast. Then the Prophet ﷺ entered and Hafsah signaled to me, so she asked him and he said, "Fast another day in its place." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said, "Both of them made a mistake." Ma'mar sent him (this information). Muhammad bin Hatim informed us that Suwayd informed us that Abdullah narrated from Ma'mar, from Az-Zuhri who said, "Aisha said, 'Me and Hafsah both started fasting.'"
[Machine] To ask the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , So Hafsah came forward and she was the daughter of her father, so she asked the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , So he commanded her "to make up for that day." 3285 Al-Harith bin Misjin recited on him and I hear from Ibn Qasim. He said, Malik told us about Ibn Shihab that Aisha and Hafsah were similar to him [i.e., sent].

So he ate and said, "I had intended to fast, but I will fast a day in its place." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said, "This wording is incorrect. A group has narrated this hadith from Talhah, but none of them mentioned 'but I will fast a day in its place.'"

They replied, "Yes, but we were presented with this food as a gift, and we liked it, so we ate from it." He said, "Fast for a day instead." Abu Abdur Rahman said, "This narration is rejected and weak in its chain of narration, and it is a speech that I have no knowledge of. The correct narration is from Ma'mar, Malik, and Ubaidullah."

Abu 'Abdul-Rahman (Jadah) said, "No one from Umm Hanee' has narrated it to him." 3289 Muhammad ibn Al-Muthanna informed us on the authority of Abu Dawood who said: Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: Jadah informed me on the authority of his grandmother, Umm Hanee', that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon her and mentioned the narration. I said to him, "Did you hear it from Umm Hanee'?" He said, "It was narrated to us by our family and Abu Salih on the authority of Umm Hanee'." Shu'bah said, "He was a reliable narrator. He used to say, 'I heard it from both sons of Umm Hanee' and I narrated it from the best of the two.'"

[Machine] She said: "The Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , was brought a drink on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and he drank from it, then he passed it to me and I drank from it while I was fasting. I did not want to decline the Prophet's favor, so I said, 'By my father, were you aware that I was fasting?' He said to her, 'Did you experience anything that required qadaa (making up for missed fasts)?' She said, 'No.' He said, 'Then it does not harm you.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered to me while I was fasting, and a container of milk was brought to him. He drank from it and then gave it to me. I drank from it and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I was fasting, but I disliked that I should return your saliva." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If it is a day of Ramadan that you need to make up, then make it up another day. But if it is a day from other than Ramadan, then if you wish, make it up, and if you wish, do not make it up."
"I was sitting with the Prophet when some drink was brought, so he drank from it, then he offered it to me and I drank it. Then I said: 'I have indeed sinned, so seek forgiveness for me.' He said: 'What is that?' I said: 'I was fasting, then I broke the fast.' He said: 'Were you performing a fast that you had to make up?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'Then it is no harm for you.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 731)
[Machine] She said: The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me on the day of the conquest of Mecca, and a drink was brought to him. He drank from it and then offered it to me, and I drank from it. She said: I was fasting, but I disliked to refuse your drink. He asked: Were you menstruating? It does not harm you. 3294 - Zakariyya ibn Yahya reported to us, he said: Ishaq informed us, he said: Abu Ayyub Yahya ibn Abi al-Hajjaj reported to us, he said: Abu Yunus reported to us, on the authority of Simak, on the authority of Abu Salih, on the authority of Umm Hanifah, she said: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and a vessel containing a drink was brought to him. He drank from it, then offered it to me, and I was fasting, so I drank something similar to it.
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah opened Mecca, the first house he entered was the house of Umm Hani. He asked for water and drank, and Umm Hani was on his right, so he gave his blessing to Umm Hani and she drank it. Then she said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have indeed done a deed, and by Allah, I do not know if I have done right or wrong. I drank the blessing of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." He said, "Is it a makeup fast from Ramadan or a voluntary fast?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, it is a voluntary fast." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the one who fasts voluntarily has the choice to continue fasting or break it." Abu Abdur-Rahman said, "This hadith is confusing, and the first one is similar to it." As for the hadith of Urwah, it is not well-known. As for the hadith of Zuhri, which is narrated by Ja'far ibn Burqan and Sufyan ibn Husayn, they are not considered strong narrators, especially in Zuhri's case, as he is contradicted by Malik and Ubaydullah ibn Umar. These two are more reliable and trustworthy than Sufyan ibn Husayn and Ja'far ibn Burqan. As for the hadith of Umm Hani, different opinions exist regarding the reliability of Simak ibn Harb's narration. Simak ibn Harb is not considered reliable when he narrates hadith in isolation, as he was known to accept false attributions. As for the hadith of Ja'dah, it is reported that he did not hear it directly from Umm Hani, but rather from Abu Salih, whose name is Badhan or Madham, and he is weak in hadith. He was a client of Umm Hani, and Al-Kalbi narrates from him. Ibn Uyaynah said, according to Muhammad ibn Qays, according to Habib ibn Abi Thabit, that they used to call Abu Salih "Durozan," and he was known for lying, except when Yahya ibn Sa'id reported from him. It is also narrated that he said during his illness, "Everything I have told you is a lie." Abu Salih is the father of Suhail ibn Abu Salih, whose name is Thiqan Ma'mun. As for the hadith of Yahya ibn Ayyub that we mentioned, he is not considered reliable, and he has other rejected narrations.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When night Comes from here and day departs from here, the fasting person may break his fast.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 383)
[Machine] I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa saying, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when he said to a man, 'Descend and milk (your camel).' The man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the sun has set.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Descend and milk (your camel).' The man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the sun has set.' Then he said again, 'Descend and milk (your camel).' So the man descended and milked (his camel) and the Prophet ﷺ drank. Then he said, 'When you see the night has come from this direction,' and he pointed with his hand towards the horizon, 'the one who is fasting should break his fast.' Abu Abdur-Rahman said, 'This hadith is narrated by Asim ibn Umar and the hadith of Ibn Abi Aufa are both authentic.'"

The Prophet ﷺ said: Religion will continue to prevail as long as people hasten to break the fast, because the Jews and the Christians delay doing so. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2353)
