5. Fasting (8/18)
The Prophet ﷺ said: Do not fast on Saturday except what has been made obligatory on you; and if one of you can get nothing but a grape skin or a piece of wood from a tree, he should chew it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2421)

The Prophet ﷺ said: Do not fast on Saturday except what has been made obligatory on you; and if one of you can get nothing but a grape skin or a piece of wood from a tree, he should chew it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2421)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Do not fast on the day of Saturday except what is obligatory upon you. Even if none of you were to break his fast except by eating the bark of a tree." Abu Abdur-Rahman said, "I was informed by Ibn Salim from Az-Zubaidi who said that Al-Fudayl ibn Fadala told us that Khalid ibn Madaan narrated to him that Abdullah ibn Busr narrated to him that he heard his father saying, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on the day of Saturday' or similar words to that effect."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on Saturdays and said, "If one cannot find any other day, then let him fast." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman narrated that Abu Taqiyyah said, "This hadith is weak and has no substance, and I only narrated it due to the differences of opinion." 2782 Sa'id ibn 'Amr informed us, he said: Bakiyyah reported to us, from al-Zubaydi, from Luqman ibn 'Amir, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Abd Allah ibn Busr, from his paternal aunt al-Sammah, from the Prophet ﷺ something similar to it.
[Machine] I heard Thawban, the servant of the Prophet ﷺ, being asked about fasting on Saturdays. He said, "Ask Abdullah ibn Busr." He was then asked and he replied, "Fasting on Saturdays is neither obligatory nor forbidden for you."
5.94 [Machine] The license to fast on Saturday.
[Machine] On the authority of Junadah al-Azdi, he said that they entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a group of eight people, and he ﷺ brought them food on a Friday. He said, "Eat." They said, "We are fasting." He said, "Did you fast yesterday?" They said, "No." He said, "Are you going to fast tomorrow?" They said, "No." He said, "Then break your fast." [Hadith number 2787] Ahmad ibn Bakkar informed me, he said: Muhammad narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Hudhayfah al-Azdi, from Junadah al-Azdi, he said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was the eighth of seven from my people from the Azd tribe, and he mentioned something similar to this.
5.95 [Machine] The fasting of Sunday.
[Machine] Ibn Abbas sent to Umm Salama and Aisha inquiring about the days that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to prefer fasting. They replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast most frequently on Saturdays and Sundays, saying, 'These are the days of celebration for the People of the Book, and we like to differ from them.'"
[Machine] Ibn Abbas and some of the Prophet's companions sent me to Umm Salamah and asked, "Which days did the Prophet ﷺ fast the most?" She replied, "He used to fast on Saturdays and Sundays." They criticized me and thought that I didn't remember correctly, so they sent me away. Umm Salamah repeated the same answer to them, and I informed them. They all got up and said, "We sent you to her, and she claimed that you said this and that." Umm Salamah replied, "She is telling the truth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast on Saturdays and Sundays more than any other days, and he used to say, 'Those are days of celebration for the disbelievers, so I prefer to differ from them.'"
5.96 [Machine] Fasting on Monday
[Machine] That the messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about fasting on Mondays. He said, "It is the day I was born and the day I received revelation."

[Machine] He heard from Filq in the messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever fasts in Ramadan and Shawwal, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, shall enter Paradise."
[Machine] He informed him that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast Ramadan and the day after it, and every Wednesday and Thursday, then you have fasted for the entire lifetime." Ibrahim Muslim ibn Ubaidullah said.
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about fasting three times. He said, "Fast the month of Ramadan and the month after it, and fast on Wednesdays and Thursdays, then you will have fasted the whole year and have broken the fast."

I saw ʿAli and ʿUthman ؓ on the day of (Eid) al-fitr and (Eid) al-Adhaa; they prayed, then when they finished they reminded the people. I heard them saying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days, It was narrated from ʿAtaʿ bin Yazeed al-Jundaʿi that he heard Humran the freed slave of ʿUthman bin ʿAffan ؓ , say.
