Blessing in the price of sold property

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever sells a house or property and does not put its price into something similar, it is likely that it will not be blessed for him."

أحمد:١٨٧٣٩حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُهَاجِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ أَخٍ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ بَاعَ دَارًا أَوْ عَقَارًا، فَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ ثَمَنَهَا فِي مِثْلِهِ، كَانَ قَمِنًا أَنْ لَا يُبَارَكَ لَهُ فِيهِ»

The Prophet ﷺ led them in prayer at al-Batha', with a staff set up in front of him. (He prayed) two rak'ahs of the Zuhr prayer and two rak'ahs of the 'Asr prayer. The women and the donkeys would pass in front of the staff. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 688)

Praying at al-Batha with a sutrah

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in the midday heat and prayed Zuhr at al-Batha as two rakahs, and Asr as two rakahs, with a short spear in front of him. He performed ablution, and the people began taking from the leftover water of his ablution. And in Awn's narration, a woman and a donkey passed behind him.

أحمد:١٨٧٤٤حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حَكَمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ، فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِالْبَطْحَاءِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَالْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةٌ، وَتَوَضَّأَ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَأْخُذُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ وَضُوئِهِ. وَفِي حَدِيثِ عَوْنٍ: يَمُرُّ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ وَالْحِمَارُ

Hasan ibn Ali most resembled the Prophet ﷺ

Praying with a sutrah at al-Batha

It was narrated from Awn bin Abi Juhaifah, from his father that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in a red Hullah, and he set up a short spear (Anazah) and prayed facing toward it, while dogs, women and donkeys were passing beyond it. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 772)

أحمد:١٨٧٥١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَوْنٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

The Prophet ﷺ praying Asr at al-Abtah with a sutrah

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray the Asr prayer at al-Abtah as two rakahs. Then he placed a short spear in front of him, between him and the people passing on the road, and I saw white hair on the hair below his lower lip.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِالْأَبْطَحِ الْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَدَّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةً بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ مَارَّةِ الطَّرِيقِ، وَرَأَيْتُ الشَّيْبَ بِعَنْفَقَتِهِ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ شَفَتِهِ السُّفْلَى.

Forbidding unlawful earnings, tattooing, and usury

[AI] I saw my father buy a cupper, and he ordered that the cupping instruments be broken. He said: I asked him about that, and he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the price of blood, the price of a dog, and the earnings of a prostitute; and he cursed the woman who tattoos and the woman who seeks tattooing, the one who consumes usury and the one who pays it, and he cursed the image-maker.

أحمد:١٨٧٥٦حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَوْنُ بْنُ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ أَبِي اشْتَرَى حَجَّامًا، فَأَمَرَ بِالْمَحَاجِمِ فَكُسِرَتْ. قَالَ: فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ ثَمَنِ الدَّمِ وَثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَكَسْبِ الْبَغِيِّ، وَلَعَنَ الْوَاشِمَةَ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَةَ وَآكِلَ الرِّبَا وَمُوكِلَهُ، وَلَعَنَ الْمُصَوِّرَ.

Seeking blessing from the Prophet’s ﷺ ablution water

أحمد:١٨٧٥٧حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَكَمُ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ:

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ، قَالَ: فَتَوَضَّأَ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَتَمَسَّحُونَ بِفَضْلِ وَضُوئِهِ، فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةٌ.

أَمَّنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِمِنًى، فَرَكَزَ عَنَزَةً لَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ.

"I saw Bilal calling the Adhan, and turning, and his (face) was following here and there, and his (index) fingers were in his ears, and Messenger of Allah was in a small red tent" - "I think," he (one of the narrators) said, "it was made from a hide" - so Bilal went out in front of him with an Anazah which he planted (in the ground) at Batha. Messenger of Allah prayed facing it, and a dog and a donkey passed in front of him; he was wearing a red Hullah, and it is as if I am now looking at the radiance of his shins." Sufyan said: "We think that it was a Hibrah." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 197)

أحمد:١٨٧٥٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ بِلَالًا يُؤَذِّنُ وَيَدُورُ وَأَتَتَبَّعُ فَاهُ هَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا وَأُصْبُعَاهُ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ قَالَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي قُبَّةٍ لَهُ حَمْرَاءَ أُرَاهَا مِنْ أَدَمٍ قَالَ فَخَرَجَ بِلَالٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِالْعَنَزَةِ فَرَكَزَهَا فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ بِمَكَّةَ قَالَ بِالْبَطْحَاءِ يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ الْكَلْبُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ وَالْحِمَارُ وَعَلَيْهِ حُلَّةٌ حَمْرَاءُ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَرِيقِ سَاقَيْهِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ نُرَاهَا حِبَرَةً

[AI] I saw a red leather tent belonging to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I saw Bilal come out with water for ablution to pour it out. The people rushed toward it, and whoever got some of it wiped himself with it, while whoever did not get any took some of the moisture from his companion's hand. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ come out wearing a red garment, with it tucked up, and I saw Bilal bring out a spear. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed facing it, while animals and people passed behind it.

أحمد:١٨٧٦٠حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَوْنُ بْنُ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ قُبَّةً حَمْرَاءَ مِنْ أَدَمٍ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَرَأَيْتُ بِلَالًا خَرَجَ بِوَضُوءٍ لِيَصُبَّهُ، فَابْتَدَرَهُ النَّاسُ، فَمَنْ أَخَذَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا تَمَسَّحَ بِهِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا أَخَذَ مِنْ بَلَلِ يَدِ صَاحِبِهِ، وَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ فِي حُلَّةٍ حَمْرَاءَ مُشَمِّرًا، وَرَأَيْتُ بِلَالًا أَخْرَجَ عَنَزَةً، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْهَا، يَمُرُّ مِنْ وَرَائِهَا الدَّوَابُّ وَالنَّاسُ.

He said: Bilal came out with the leftover water from his wudu, and among the people were those who sprinkled themselves with it and those who took some. He said: Then Bilal gave the adhan, and I kept following his mouth like this and like this, meaning to the right and to the left. He said: Then a spear was planted for him. He said: Then the Prophet ﷺ came out wearing a red cloak, or a red suit, and it was as if I could see the shine of his shins. He led us in praying Zuhr or Asr, two rakahs, toward the spear. A woman, a dog, and a donkey would pass, and they were not prevented. Then he continued praying two rakahs until he came to Medina. Waki said once: He prayed Zuhr two rakahs and Asr two rakahs.

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِالْأَبْطَحِ، وَهُوَ فِي قُبَّةٍ لَهُ حَمْرَاءَ. قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ بِلَالٌ بِفَضْلِ وَضُوئِهِ، فَمِنْ نَاضِحٍ وَنَائِلٍ. قَالَ: فَأَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ، فَكُنْتُ أَتَتَبَّعُ فَاهُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا، يَعْنِي يَمِينًا وَشِمَالًا. قَالَ: ثُمَّ رُكِزَتْ لَهُ عَنَزَةٌ. قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ لَهُ حَمْرَاءُ، أَوْ حُلَّةٌ حَمْرَاءُ، فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَرِيقِ سَاقَيْهِ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا إِلَى الْعَنَزَةِ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، تَمُرُّ الْمَرْأَةُ وَالْكَلْبُ وَالْحِمَارُ لَايُمْنَعُ، ثُمَّ لَمْ يَزَلْ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ. وَقَالَ وَكِيعٌ مَرَّةً: فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَالْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ.

سَأَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ، فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَنَا فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْهُنَّ. سَأَلْنَاهُ أَنْ يَرُدَّ إِلَيْنَا أَبَا بَكْرَةَ، وَكَانَ مَمْلُوكًا وَأَسْلَمَ قَبْلَنَا، فَقَالَ: «لَا، هُوَ طَلِيقُ اللهِ، ثُمَّ طَلِيقُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ». ثُمَّ سَأَلْنَاهُ أَنْ يُرَخِّصَ لَنَا فِي الشِّتَاءِ، وَكَانَتْ أَرْضُنَا أَرْضًا بَارِدَةً، يَعْنِي فِي الطَّهُورِ، فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَنَا. وَسَأَلْنَاهُ أَنْ يُرَخِّصَ لَنَا فِي الدُّبَّاءِ، فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَنَا فِيهِ.

A convert has more right to his land and wealth

أَتَانَا كِتَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺوَنَحْنُ بِأَرْضِ جُهَيْنَةَ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ أَنْ لَا تَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ وَلَا عَصَبٍ

"I entered upon 'Abdullah bin 'Ukaim Abu Mabad Al-Juhani to visit him, while he had Humrah. I said:'Why don't you hang something?' He said: 'Death is better than that. “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, in our land there are grapes which we squeeze (to make wine). Can we drink from it?’ He said: ‘No.’ I repeated the question and said: ‘We treat the sick with it.’ He said: ‘That is not a cure, it is a disease.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3500)

أحمد:١٨٧٨٧حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ بِأَرْضِنَا أَعْنَابًا نَعْتَصِرُهَا فَنَشْرَبُ مِنْهَا؟ قَالَ لَا فَعَاوَدْتُهُ فَقَالَ لَا فَقُلْتُ إِنَّا نَسْتَشْفِي بِهَا لِلْمَرِيضِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ذَاكَ لَيْسَ شِفَاءً وَلَكِنَّهُ دَاءٌ

A man asking the Prophet ﷺ about wine

[AI] that he witnessed the Prophet ﷺ, and a man from Khatham called Suwaid ibn Tariq asked him. Ibn Jafar said: or Tariq ibn Suwaid al-Jufi asked the Prophet ﷺ about wine, so he forbade him; then he mentioned the hadith.

أحمد:١٨٧٨٨حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَائِلِ بْنِ حُجْرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ

إِنَّهُ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ سُوَيْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ. وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ: أَوْ طَارِقُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ الْجُعْفِيُّ، سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ، فَنَهَاهُ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
