٩۔٦١ حديث طارق بن شهاب

What al-Miqdad said at Badr

[AI] to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Badr: O Messenger of Allah, we do not say to you as the Children of Israel said to Musa, "Go, you and your Lord, and fight; indeed, we are sitting here." Rather, "Go, you and your Lord, and fight; indeed, we are fighting alongside you."

أحمد:١٨٨٢٧حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُخَارِقِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ عَنْ طَارِقٍ أَنَّ الْمِقْدَادَ قَالَ

لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى ﴿اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ﴾، وَلَكِنْ اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُقَاتِلُونَ.

The best jihad is a word of truth before an unjust ruler

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, Which jihad is best? He said, "A word of truth before an unjust ruler."

أحمد:١٨٨٢٨حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ طَارِقٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «كَلِمَةُ حَقٍّ عِنْدَ إِمَامٍ جَائِرٍ».

Tariq ibn Shihab's campaigns under Abu Bakr and Umar

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I took part during the caliphates of Abu Bakr and Umar in some forty-odd, or thirty-odd, campaigns, between battles and expeditions. Ibn Jafar said: thirty-three or forty-three, from a battle to an expedition.

أحمد:١٨٨٢٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ طَارِقَ بْنَ شِهَابٍ يَقُولُ

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، وَغَزَوْتُ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ بِضْعًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ، أَوْ بِضْعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، مِنْ بَيْنِ غَزْوَةٍ وَسَرِيَّةٍ. وقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ: ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، أَوْ ثَلَاثًا وَأَرْبَعِينَ، مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ إِلَى سَرِيَّةٍ.

a man asked the Prophet, when he had put his leg in the stirrup: "Which kind of Jihad is best?'" He said: " a word of truth spoken before an unjust rulers." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4209)

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ وَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الْغَرْزِ أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ كَلِمَةُ حَقٍّ عِنْدَ سُلْطَانٍ جَائِرٍ

Cow's milk as a remedy

[AI] "Allah ﷻ has not placed any disease except that He has placed for it a cure. So take cow's milk, for they graze on every tree."

أحمد:١٨٨٣١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

«إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ لَمْ يَضَعْ دَاءً إِلَّا وَضَعَ لَهُ شِفَاءً، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِأَلْبَانِ الْبَقَرِ، فَإِنَّهَا تَرُمُّ مِنْ كُلِّ الشَّجَرِ»

Two junub men, one praying with tayammum and one not praying

[AI] Two men became junub. One of them performed tayammum and prayed, while the other did not pray. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he did not fault either of them.

أحمد:١٨٨٣٢حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُخَارِقٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ

أَجْنَبَ رَجُلَانِ، فَتَيَمَّمَ أَحَدُهُمَا فَصَلَّى، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ الْآخَرُ، فَأَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَلَمْ يَعِبْ عَلَيْهِمَا.

Supplication for the delegation of Bajilah

[AI] A delegation of Bajilah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Clothe the Bajalis, and begin with the Ahmasis." He said: A man from Qays stayed behind and said: so that I may see what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ says to them. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for them five times: "O Allah, send blessings upon them," or: "O Allah, bless them." It was Mukhariq who was uncertain.

أحمد:١٨٨٣٣حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُخَارِقٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ:

قَدِمَ وَفْدُ بَجِيلَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «اكْسُوا الْبَجَلِيِّينَ، وَابْدَءُوا بِالْأَحْمَسِيِّينَ». قَالَ: فَتَخَلَّفَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: حَتَّى أَنْظُرَ مَا يَقُولُ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ. قَالَ: فَدَعَا لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ: «اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ»، أَوْ: «اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فِيهِمْ»، مُخَارِقٌ الَّذِي يَشُكُّ.

Giving precedence to Ahmas and praying for them

[AI] The delegation of Ahmas and the delegation of Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Begin with the Ahmasis before the Qaysis." He then supplicated for Ahmas and said, "O Allah, bless Ahmas, its horses, and its men," seven times.

أحمد:١٨٨٣٤حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُخَارِقٍ عَنْ طَارِقٍ قَالَ

قَدِمَ وَفْدُ أَحْمَسَ وَوَفْدُ قَيْسٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «ابْدَءُوا بِالْأَحْمَسِيِّينَ قَبْلَ الْقَيْسِيِّينَ»، وَدَعَا لِأَحْمَسَ، فَقَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فِي أَحْمَسَ وَخَيْلِهَا وَرِجَالِهَا» سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ.

Seeing the Prophet ﷺ and campaigning under Abu Bakr and Umar
