[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are clear lawful things and clear unlawful things, and in between them are doubtful matters. Whoever avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, but whoever falls into doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful, just as a shepherd who grazes his sheep near a private pastureland is likely to have some of his sheep enter it."

ahmad:18348Hāshim > Shaybān > ʿĀṣim > Khaythamah And al-Shhaʿbī > al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then there will come a people who will precede their oaths and their oaths will precede their testimonies."

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The best of this Ummah are those who were sent in it, followed by those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after those who come after them. He said: They are good. Then there will be people whose oaths will be taken before their testimony, and their testimony will be taken before their oaths."

[Machine] The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He used to pray two units of prayer, then ask, then pray two units of prayer, then ask, until the sun became clear. He said, "There are people among the people of ignorance who say or claim that when the sun or the moon is eclipsed, it is only due to the death of a great person from the leaders of the people of the Earth. However, that is not the case. Rather, they are two creations among the creations of Allah. When Allah manifests Himself to something from His creation, it humbles itself before Him."

ahmad:18353Muḥammad b. Yazīd > al-ʿAwwām > a man from al-Anṣār from Āl al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr > al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were in the mosque after the night prayer. He raised his gaze to the sky and then lowered it until we thought that something had happened in the sky. He said, "Verily, there will be rulers after me who will tell lies and commit injustice. Whoever believes in their lies and supports them in their injustice is not of me, and I am not of him. And whoever does not believe in their lies and does not support them in their injustice, he is of me, and I am of him. Verily, the blood of a Muslim is a ransom for him." He also said, "Verily, glorified is Allah, and all praise is due to Allah. There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. These are the eternal good deeds."

As I was (sitting) near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man said: I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed (except) distributing drinking water among the pilgrims. Another said: I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed beyond maintenance service to the Sacred Mosque. Another said: Jihad in the way of Allah is better than what you have said. 'Umar reprimanded them and said: Don't raise your voices near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on Friday. When prayer was over, I entered (the apartment of the Holy Prophet) and asked his verdict about the matter in which they had differed. (It was upon this that) Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, revealed the Qur'anic verse:" Do you make the giving of drinking water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to (the service of those) who believe in Allah and the Last Day and strive hard in the cause of Allah. They are not equal in the sight of God. And Allah guides not the wrongdoing people" (ix. 20). (Using translation from Muslim 1879a)

So whoever leaves it to protect his religion and his honor, then he will be safe, and whoever falls into something from them, then he soon will have fallen into the unlawful. My father gave me a gift. The narrator Isma'il b. Salim said: (He gave me) his slave as a gift. My mother 'Umrah daughter of Rawahah said: Go to the Messenger of Allah and call him as witness. He then came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him. He said him: I have given my son al-Nu'man a gift, and 'Umrah has asked me to call you as witness to it. He asked him: Have you children other than him? He said: I replied: Yes. He again asked: Have you given the rest of them the same as you have given al-Nu'man ? He said: No. Some of these narrators said in their version (that the Prophet said:) This in injustice. The others said in their version (that the Prophet said:) This is under force. So call some other person than me as witness to it. Mughirah said in his version: (The Prophet asked): Are you not pleased with the fact that all of them may be equal in virtue and grace ? He replied: Yes. He said: Then call some other person than me as witness to it. Mujahid mentioned in his version: They have right to you that you should do justice to them, as you have right to them that they should do good to you. Abu Dawud said: In the version of al-Zuhri some (narrators) said: (Have you given) to all your sons ? and some (narrators) said: Your children. [Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , the parable of the person who observes the limits set by Allah, the one who transgresses those limits, and the one who denigrates them is like a group of people who boarded a ship. Some of them occupied the upper deck, while others occupied the lower deck. When those in the lower deck needed water, they had to go up to get it, thus inconveniencing the people in the upper deck. They suggested to the people in the upper deck to allow them to make a hole in their own area so that they could have access to water without disturbing the people in the upper deck. If the people in the upper deck let them do so, then everyone on the ship would be harmed and eventually perish. However, if they prevented them from making the hole, then everyone would be saved.

[Machine] I learned it from Abu Furwah first, then from Mujalid, who heard it from Al-Sha'abi saying: I heard Nu'man ibn Bashir saying: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'When I used to hear him saying, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying,' I would pay attention, draw near, and fear that I would not hear anyone else saying, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying,' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'What is halal (lawful) is clear, what is haram (forbidden) is clear, and between them are doubtful matters. Whoever avoids the doubtful matters has protected his religion and honor. And whoever indulges in the doubtful matters has fallen into the haram (forbidden), just like the shepherd who grazes his flock around a pasture, all but grazing therein. Truly, every king has a protected sanctuary, and truly Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions on the earth. Truly, his prohibitions are what He has made unlawful.'"
