A person may receive only a fraction of his prayer
[AI] Ammar prayed two rakahs, and Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith said to him, "O Abu al-Yaqzan, I only see that you have made them brief." He said, "Have I reduced anything of their required parts?" He said, "No, but you made them brief." He said, "I hastened through them because of forgetfulness; I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "A man may pray, yet perhaps he will have from his prayer only a tenth of it, a ninth of it, or an eighth of it, or a seventh of it"." He continued until he reached the end of the count.
Ammar's last drink at Siffin
[AI] On the day of Siffin, Ammar said, "Bring me a drink of milk, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The last drink you will drink in this world is a drink of milk."" So a drink of milk was brought to him, and he drank it, then he went forward and was killed.
The ummah is like rain
[AI] "The example of my ummah is like the rain; it is not known whether its beginning is better or its end."
"We were with 'Umar when a man came to him and said: 'O Commander of the Believers! sometimes we stay for a month or two without finding any water. Umar said: As if I did not find water, I would not pray until I found water.' 'Ammar bin Yasir said: 'Do you remember, O Commander of the Believer, when you were in such and such a place and we were rearing the camels, and you know that we became Junub?' He said: 'Yes.' 'As for me I rolled in the dust, then we came to the Prophet ﷺ and he laughed and said: "Clean earth would have been sufficient for you." And he struck his hands on the earth then blew on them, then he wiped his face and part of his forearms. He ('Umar) said: "Fear Allah, O 'Ammar!'" He said: 'O Commander of the Believers! If you wish I will not mention it.' He said: 'No, we will let you bear the burden of what you took upon yourself.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 316)
The Prophet’s last drink would be milk
[AI] Ammar ibn Yasir was brought a drink of milk, so he laughed and said: Then he said: The Prophet ﷺ said: "The last drink I will drink is milk, until I die."
Ammar's words on the day of Siffin
[AI] I saw Ammar on the Day of Siffin, an old man, dark-complexioned and tall, holding a spear in his hand while his hand was trembling. He said, "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I have fought with this banner alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times, and this is the fourth. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if they were to strike us until they drove us to the palm branches of Hajar, I would know that those of us seeking reform are upon the truth and that they are upon misguidance."
Ammar on the fighting and the twelve hypocrites
[AI] He said: I said to Ammar, "Do you think your fighting was an opinion you formed?" Hajjaj said: "Do you think this matter" meaning their fighting "was an opinion you formed? For opinion can be mistaken and can be correct. Or was it a covenant that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made with you?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not make any special covenant with us that he did not make with all people." And he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, in my nation..."" Shu'bah said, "And I think he said: Hudhayfah narrated to me:" "Indeed, in my nation are twelve hypocrites. They will not enter Paradise, nor will they smell its fragrance, until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. Eight of them, the dubaylah will suffice against them: a lamp of fire that appears in their shoulders until it emerges in their chests."
I came to my family at night (after a journey) with my hands chapped and they perfumed me with saffron. In the morning I went to the Prophet ﷺ and gave him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash this off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I came to him but there remained a spot of it on me. I give him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash it off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I then came and gave him a greeting. He responded to me and welcomed me, saying: The angels do not attend the funeral of an unbeliever bringing good to it, nor a man who smears himself with saffron, nor a man who is sexually defiled. He said: He permitted the man who was sexually defiled to perform ablution when he slept, ate or drank. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4176)
"Do you remember when we were on a campaign, and I became Junub and rolled in the dust, then I came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: 'This would have been sufficient.'" (One of the narrators) Shu'bah struck his hands on his knees and blew into his hands, then he wiped his face and palms with them once. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 317)
The concession of tayammum after Aisha's necklace was lost
[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a necklace belonging to Aisha was lost, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed until dawn broke. Abu Bakr became angry with Aisha, then the concession regarding wiping with the surfaces of the earth was sent down for them. Abu Bakr went in to her and said: "You are truly blessed; a concession has been sent down for us because of you." Then we struck with our hands for our faces, and we struck with our hands one stroke up to the shoulders and the armpits.
Keeping the sermon brief
[AI] Ammar addressed us and was brief in his sermon. A man from Quraysh said to him, "You have spoken words that were sufficient; if only you had made it longer." He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to make the sermon long."
The Prophet ﷺ told Ammar to wash off khaluq
[AI] I had applied khaluq, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he rebuked me and said, "Go, O son of Umm Ammar, and wash it off yourself." So I went back and washed it off me. He said: Then I returned to him, and he rebuked me again. He said, "Go back and wash it off yourself." He mentioned that three times.
The revelation of tayammum after Aisha's necklace was lost
[AI] That he was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and Aisha was with him. Her necklace was lost, so the people were delayed searching for it until morning came, and they had no water with them. Then tayammum was revealed. Ammar said: They rose and wiped; they struck with their hands and wiped their faces with them, then they returned and struck with their hands a second time, then they wiped their hands up to the armpits—or he said: up to the shoulders.
Wudu is sufficient for madhy
[AI] I used to experience madhy, and I felt shy to ask him because his daughter was with me, so I said to Ammar, "Ask him." So he asked him, and he said, "Wudu is sufficient for it."
How tayammum was performed
[AI] That the concession which Allah ﷻ revealed concerning clean earth—then he mentioned the hadith—except that he said that they struck their palms on the earth and wiped their faces with it once, then they returned and struck again, and wiped their hands up to the shoulders and the armpits.
How much of a prayer is recorded
[AI] I saw Ammar ibn Yasir enter the mosque and pray, and he made the prayer brief. He said: When he came out, I went up to him and said, "O Abu al-Yaqzan, you made it brief." He said, "Did you see me reduce anything from its required parts?" I said, "No." He said, "I hastened through it before Satan could distract me." I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "A servant may perform the prayer, and nothing of it is recorded for him except a tenth of it, a ninth of it, an eighth of it, a seventh of it, a sixth of it, a fifth of it, a fourth of it, a third of it, or a half of it."
