I came to my family at night (after a journey) with my hands chapped and they perfumed me with saffron. In the morning I went to the Prophet ﷺ and gave him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash this off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I came to him but there remained a spot of it on me. I give him a greeting, but he did not respond to me nor did he welcome me. He said: Go away and wash it off yourself. I then went away and washed it off me. I then came and gave him a greeting. He responded to me and welcomed me, saying: The angels do not attend the funeral of an unbeliever bringing good to it, nor a man who smears himself with saffron, nor a man who is sexually defiled. He said: He permitted the man who was sexually defiled to perform ablution when he slept, ate or drank. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4176)

[Machine] I came to my family at night and my hands were cracked, so they created me with saffron. Then I went to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him, but he did not respond to me or welcome me. He told me to go and wash this off myself, so I went and washed it. Then I returned and there was still some residue on me, so I greeted him but he did not respond or welcome me. He told me to go and wash this off myself, so I washed it. Then I came back and greeted him, and he responded to me and welcomed me. He said that the angels do not attend the funeral of an unbeliever, or someone who is impure due to saffron or sexual impurity. It is permissible for someone in a state of sexual impurity (jannaba) to sleep, eat, or drink before performing ablution (wudu). Abu Ali al-Rawdabari informed us that Abu Bakr ibn Dasa narrated to us that Abu Dawud al-Sijistani narrated to us that Nasr ibn Ali narrated to us that Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us that Ibn Jurayj told us that Umar ibn Ata ibn Abi al-Khawwar informed him that he heard Yahya ibn Ya'mar report from a man who heard it from Ammar ibn Yasir. Umar claimed that Yahya named that man, but Umar forgot his name, and instead named him Ammar. I said to Umar, "But they are prohibited acts?" He said, "No, the people are settled." It was also reported from Al-Hasan al-Basri from Ammar ibn Yasir that the Prophet ﷺ said, in brief.

[Machine] "I arrived at my family's place from a journey, and they smeared me with saffron. When I woke up in the morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him, but he did not greet me back or smile at me. He told me to go and wash off the saffron, so I washed it off. Then I went to him, and there was still some of it left on me. I greeted him, but he did not greet me back or smile at me. He told me to go and wash it off again, so I washed it off. Then I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him, and he responded to my greeting, smiled at me, and said: 'Indeed, the angels do not attend the funeral of a disbeliever, one who has smeared himself with saffron, or one who is in a state of sexual impurity. And it is permissible for one who is in a state of sexual impurity, and wishes to eat or sleep, to perform ablution.'"
