8. Shāmīs (21/26)
[Machine] He said, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him in the year of the delegations, he said: "I had a wet dream on a cold and extremely cold night, so I feared that if I performed ablution, it would harm me. So I performed dry ablution (tayammum) and then prayed the morning prayer with my companions. When we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I mentioned this to him. He said, "O 'Amr, did you pray with your companions while you were in a state of impurity?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah. I had a wet dream on a cold and extremely cold night, so I was afraid that if I performed ablution, it would harm me." And I remembered the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He): "And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful." [Quran 4:29] So I performed dry ablution and then prayed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and did not say anything.
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I will pledge allegiance to you on the condition that you forgive me for my past sins." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Islam erases what came before it, and Hijrah (migration) erases what came before it." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah, I have never seen anyone more modest than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I could not even look at him directly, nor could I approach him with whatever I desired, until Allah took him (in death) with that modesty from him."
[Machine] A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, which action is the best?" He replied, "Belief in Allah and testifying to His Oneness, and jihad in His cause." The man said, "You have mentioned some of them, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Let your speech be good and provide food, and be kind and have good manners." The man said, "I need one word." The Messenger of Allah said to him, "Go, and do not put a burden on yourself that Allah will be responsible for."
[Machine] I heard Amr ibn al-As saying while he was on the pulpit addressing the people, "How far removed you are from the guidance of your Prophet ﷺ! As for him, he was the least interested among the people in worldly matters, while you are the most desirous of them."
That he heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "If a judge gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct (i.e. agrees with Allah and His Apostle's verdict) he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, (i.e. against that of Allah and His Apostle) even then he will get a reward ." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7352)
[Machine] I heard Amr bin Al-Aas say, "You have become inclined towards what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to abstain from. You desire the dunya (worldly matters), while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to refrain from it. By Allah, not a single night passed upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during his lifetime except that he had more than he possessed. Some companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'We have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking some worldly gain.' He replied, 'Other than Yahya (meaning John the Baptist), and by Allah, there was not a single day that passed upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except that he had more than he possessed.'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ and in another place he said, Malik ibn Abdullah narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr that the Prophet ﷺ sought refuge in Allah from seven types of deaths: sudden death, snake bite, predatory animals, drowning, burning, being crushed by something or being crushed by it, and being killed during a landslide.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said that the Quran was revealed in seven different dialects, so whichever dialect you recite it in, you are correct. Therefore, do not dispute about it as arguing about it is disbelief.
'If a judge passes a judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, and he is indeed correct, he will have two rewards. If he passes judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, but it is incorrect, he will have one reward.'" I narrated it to Abu Bakr bin Hazm and he said: "This is what Abu Salamah narrated to me from Abu Hurairah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3574)
[Machine] Amr ibn al-As heard a man reciting a verse from the Quran, so he asked, "Who taught you this?" The man replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to me." Amr ibn al-As and the man went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and one of them said, "O Messenger of Allah, this verse says such and such," and recited it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is how it was revealed." Then the other person recited the same verse to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is it not like this?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is how it was revealed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Indeed, the Quran was revealed with seven different modes of recitation, so whichever of these you have recited, you are correct. Do not dispute over it, for argumentation over the Quran is disbelief or a verse of disbelief."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No people indulge in usury without being afflicted by the year, and no people indulge in bribery without being afflicted by fear."
[Machine] He returned then asked for permission again, and Ali said, "May I enter?" They said, "Yes," so he entered and Ali said to him, "What prevented you from entering when you did not find me here?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from entering upon those who are absent."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came across two disputing parties, and he said to Amr, "Arbitrate between them, O Amr." He replied, "You are more deserving of that than me, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "But if you arbitrate between them and pass judgment, what will I get?" Amr answered, "If I pass judgment between them and succeed, I will receive ten rewards. But if I arbitrate and make a mistake, I will still receive one reward."
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said that if you strive and achieve the matter, you will have ten rewards. And if you strive and make a mistake, you will still receive one reward.
[Machine] "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in this place when suddenly we saw many crows. Among them was a crow with a red beak and legs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No woman will enter Paradise except if she is like this crow among these crows.' Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'So when a woman has her adornments and rings in her hands, she should cover her hands and not expose them.' Hasan did not say anything about the two midday prayers."
[Machine] "When Allah ﷻ placed Islam in my heart, I went to the Prophet ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him. He extended his hand to me, but I said, 'I will not pledge allegiance to you, O Messenger of Allah, until you forgive me for my past sins.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to me, 'O 'Amr, do you not know that migration erases what came before it of sins? O 'Amr, do you not know that Islam erases what came before it of sins?'"
8.122 [Machine] Abdulqais delegation
[Machine] To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I said, "Indeed, there are two qualities in you that Allah loves." I asked, "What are they?" He replied, "Patience and modesty." I asked, "Are they inherent in me or acquired?" He said, "They are inherent." I said, "Praise be to Allah who has made me possess these two qualities that He loves."
[Machine] One of the delegates who visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the tribe of Abdul Qais told me: We presented to him a gift of a piece of cloth or a handkerchief, or a bottle of perfume. He asked, "What is this?" We replied, "It is a gift." He then seemed to look at a date from it, and he returned it to its place, saying, "Give it to the family of Muhammad." He was then asked about various things, including drinks. He said, "Do not drink in a leather container, a gourd, a flask, or a hollowed out stick. Drink in what is permitted, the Mohakah." One of them asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you know about leather containers, gourds, flasks, and hollowed out sticks?" He replied, "I don't know what these are, which one is the most valuable?" We said, "The Mashafir." He said, "By Allah, I have entered them and taken their lids." He then said, "I had forgotten to mention something, then Ubaidullah bin Abu Jarwah reminded me. I stood at the edge of the Zara'ah and said, 'O Allah, forgive the tribe of Abdul Qais when they submit willingly, not reluctantly or out of fear, and not in a state of humiliation or disgrace.' He then turned his face towards the Qiblah."

[Machine] One of the delegation who visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed me, and if it was not him, then Qays ibn Nu'man said, "I have forgotten his name." He narrated the hadith and raised his hands to supplicate for Abd al-Qays, and his face was towards the Qibla from the right side of the Qibla until he faced the Qibla. Then he supplicated for Abd al-Qays again and said, "Verily, the best of the people of the east is Abd al-Qays."
[Machine] He heard some of the delegation from Abd al-Qays saying, "We have come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his joy increased upon seeing us. When we reached the people, they made way for us and we sat down. The Prophet ﷺ welcomed us and prayed for us. Then he looked at us and said, "Who is your leader and chief?" We all pointed to Mundhir ibn 'Amr. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Is this the one with the scar?" It was the first day he was given this nickname because of a blow to his face with a donkey's hoof. We said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He then followed the people and assessed their resources and belongings. Then he took off his traveling clothes and put on his best clothes. He then approached the Prophet ﷺ , who had stretched out his leg and leaned on it. When Mundhir approached, the people made way for him and said, "Here is Mundhir!" The Prophet ﷺ straightened himself and sat up, welcomed him, and treated him kindly. Then he asked about his lands and named for him a village called Safa and Mashqar, among other villages. Mundhir said, "By my parents, O Messenger of Allah, you know the names of our villages." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have already been to your lands and it has opened up to me. Then he approached the Ansar and said, "O people of the Ansar, honor your brothers, for they are like you in Islam, and they bear the closest resemblance to you in hair and appearance. They have submitted willingly, not by force or coercion, as a people who refused to submit were killed. When they woke up, the Prophet ﷺ said, "How do you see the status of your brothers and their hospitality towards you?" They replied, "They are the best brothers. They have provided us with bedding, made our food, stayed with us, and taught us the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet." The Prophet ﷺ was pleased and delighted with this, then he approached us one by one and asked each of us about what we had learned and taught. Some of us learned and taught greetings, the mother of the Book, and two Surahs, while others learned and taught the Sunnah and two Sunnahs. Then he turned to us and said, "Do you have any provisions with you?" The people were happy about this and rushed to prepare their belongings. Each man came with a handful of dates and placed it on a cloth in front of him, holding a piece of cloth in his hand. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you call this a variety of provisions?" We said, "Yes." [Machine] On the authority of the delegation of Abdul Qais, they heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "O Allah, make us among Your chosen slaves, the glittering ones, the fully armed ones, and the accepted delegation." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, who are the chosen slaves of Allah?" He replied, "The righteous slaves of Allah." They asked, "Who are the glittering ones?" He said, "Those among them whose bodies have radiance in places of purification." They asked, "Who are the fully armed ones?" He said, "They are the ones who accompany their Prophet from this Ummah to their Lord."

"While I was at the Ka'bah, in a state between sleep and wakefulness, three men came, and one of them who was in the middle came toward me. I was brought a basin of gold, filled with wisdom and faith, and he slit open from the throat to the lower abdomen, and washed the heart with Zamzam water, then - "it was filled with wisdom and faith. Then I was brought a riding-beast, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey. I set off with Jibril, peace be upon him, and we came to the lowest heaven. It was said: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' It was said: 'Has (revelation) been sent to him? Welcome to him, what an excellent visit his is.' I came to Adam, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent son and Prophet.' Then we came to the second heaven and it was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibra'il.' [1] It was said: 'Who is with you?' he said: 'Muhammad.' And the same exchange took place. I came to Yahya and 'Eisa, peace be upon them both, and greeted them, and they said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the third heaven and it was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibra'il.' It was said: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' And the same exchange took place. I came to Yusuf, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fourth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Idris, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fifth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Harun, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the sixth heaven and the same exchange took place. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent brother and Prophet.' What I passed him, he wept, and it was said: 'Why are you weeping?' He said: 'O Lord, this young man whom You have sent after me, more of his Ummah will enter Paradise than from my nation, and they will be more virtuous than them.' Then we came to the seventh heaven and a similar exchange took place. I came to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you! What an excellent son and Prophet.' Then I was taken up to the Oft-Frequented House (Al-Bait al-Ma'mur) and I asked Jibra'il about it, and he said: 'This is Al-Bait al-Ma'mur in which seventy thousand angels pray everyday, and when they leave it they never come back.' Then I was taken up to Sidrah Al-Muntaha (the Lote-Tree of the Utmost Boundary). Its fruits were like Qilal [2] of Hajar and its leaves were like the ears of elephants. At its base were four rivers: Two hidden rivers and two manifest rivers. I asked Jibril (About them) and he said: 'The two hidden ones are in paradise, and the two manifest ones are the Euphrates and the Nile.' Then fifty prayers were enjoined upon me. I came to Musa and he said: 'What happened?' I said: 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined upon me.' He said: 'I know more about the people than you. I tried hard with the Children of Israel. Your Ummah will never be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it for you.' So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to reduce it, and He made it forty. Then I went back to Musa, peace be upon him, and he said: 'What happened?' I said: 'He made it forty.' He said to me something similar to what he said the first time, so I went back to my Lord and He made it thirty. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and told him, and he said to me something similar to what he said the first time, so I went back to my Lord and he made it twenty, then ten, then five. I came to Musa, peace be upon him, and he said to me something like he had said the first time, but I said: 'I feel too shy before my Lord to go back to Him.' Then it was called out: 'I have decreed (the reward for) My obligation, and I have reduced the burden for My slaves and I will give a ten-fold reward for each good deed.'" [1] It is like this here, while it is Jibra'il the first time it appears in this narration, and Jibra'il is often used in the Hadith literature. [Machine] "That the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: While I was by the Kaaba, between the sleeper and the wakeful, I remembered the hadith and it was said to me: Then we went to the seventh heaven and Jibril began the opening. And it was said: Who is this? It was said: Jibril. And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. And it was said: Has he been sent to? He said: Yes. And the gate was opened for him. They said: Welcome to him and what a good arrival he has made. Then I went above Ibrahim and asked: Who is this? He said: Jibril, this is your father Ibrahim. So I greeted him and he said: Welcome to the righteous son and the righteous prophet. Then I was taken up to the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary and its leaves were like the ears of elephants and its fruits were like large clay pots. And there were four rivers that flowed from its base, two visible rivers and two hidden rivers. So I asked: What is this, O Jibril? He said: As for the two visible rivers, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. And as for the two hidden rivers, they are rivers in Paradise. He said: So I was brought two vessels, one of them containing wine and the other containing milk. He said: So I took the milk. And Jibril said: You have chosen the Fitrah (natural disposition)."

[Machine] Narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that while I was at the Kaaba, between the sleeping and the awake, I heard someone saying, one of the three. So he mentioned the hadith and said, "Then the Bait Al-Ma'mur (the much-frequented House) was raised for us. Seventy thousand angels enter it every day, and when they leave, they never return to it again. He said, "Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary was raised to me, and its leaves were like elephant ears." So he mentioned the hadith and said, "So I said, 'I have asked my Lord until I became shy, but He is pleased and I surrendered.'" He said, "So when I passed beyond it, I was called to proclaim that I have lightened the burdens for my servants and fulfilled my obligations, and I have made every good deed ten times its like."

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ spat in his palm one day and placed his finger on it, then said, "Allah says, 'O son of Adam, how can you challenge me when I created you from something like this? After I fashioned and shaped you, you walk between two feet while the earth belongs to you and is your support. You gather and withhold until you reach your grave, and then you say, 'Shall I give in charity now?' and 'When is the time for charity?'"

8.126 [Machine] Abandoned child Bin Sabra
[Machine] "He set out with his companion to visit the Prophet ﷺ but they could not find him. Aisha then provided them with dates and porridge. Soon after, the Prophet ﷺ arrived, disheveled and he asked if they had been fed. They replied in the affirmative. The Prophet ﷺ then asked them about prayer. He said, 'Perform your ablution properly, separate your fingers during washing, and when you rinse your nose, do so forcefully, except if you are fasting.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have a wife who is too brief in her garment.' He said, 'Divorce her.' I said, 'She has companions and children.' He said, 'Advise her, and if there is any good in her, she will adhere to it. And do not beat your wife as you would beat your slave.' While we were discussing, a shepherd came and pushed his flock towards us. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Did you give birth?' He replied, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'What did you get?' He said, 'A male.' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'What kind?' The shepherd said, 'A healthy one.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Slaughter a sheep in its place.' Then he approached me and said, 'Do not assume that I did not say 'do not assume.' We slaughtered it for your sake, and we have a hundred sheep which we do not want to multiply.' When the shepherd gave birth to another healthy sheep, he ordered us to slaughter it in its place."

[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "O people, repent to your Lord for I repent to Him a hundred times in a day."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: My heart is invaded by unmindfulness, and I ask Allah's pardon a hundred times in the day. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1515)
There is (at times) some sort of shade upon my heart, and I seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred times a day. (Using translation from Muslim 2702a)
[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "O people, repent to your Lord, for indeed, I repent to Him one hundred times a day."
8.128 [Machine] Abi Saeed Ibn Al-Ma'alla
[Machine] I was praying when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me, but I did not respond to him until I finished my prayer and came to him. He asked me, "What prevented you from coming to me?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I was praying." He said, "Did Allah not say, 'O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you'?" (Quran 8:24). Then he said, "I will teach you the greatest Surah in the Quran, or one of the greatest Surahs, before you leave the mosque." He took my hand, and when he was about to leave the mosque, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you said you would teach me the greatest Surah in the Quran?" He said, "Yes, praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. It is Al-Hamd (Surah Al-Fatiha), the seven repeated verses and the Great Quran that I have been given."
from his father: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a Khutbah one day and said: 'Indeed there is a man whose Lord has given him the choice between living in this life as long as he wishes to live, and eating from this life as much as he wishes to eat, and between meeting his Lord.'" He said: "So Abu Bakr cried. The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Are you not amazed at this old man, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a righteous man whose Lord gave him the choice between this life or meeting his Lord, and he chose meeting his Lord.'" He said: "But Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable one of them regarding what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said. So Abu Bakr said: 'Rather we will ransom our fathers and wealth for you.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no one among people more beneficial to us (Amanna Ilaina) in his companionship, or generous with his wealth than Ibn Abi Quhafah. And, if I were to take a Khalil, I would have taken Ibn Abi Quhafah as a Khalil. But rather love and the brotherhood of faith' - saying that two or three times - 'Indeed your companion is the Khalil of Allah.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3659)

8.129 [Machine] My Father is Al-Hakam, or Hakam Bin Sufyan
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ enter, then he performed ablution and sprinkled water on his private parts. Aswad ibn Amer narrated to us, he said: Shurayk asked the family of Al-Hakam ibn Sufyan and they mentioned that he didn't meet the Prophet ﷺ .
[Machine] In his speech, Abdur-Rahman said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ enter and perform ablution. He then washed his private parts with water."
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinate, and he sprinkled water on the private parts of his body. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 167)
8.130 [Machine] The Ruling of ibn Hazn Al-Kalbi
I sat with a man who had been in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi. He began to narrate a tradition to us saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a delegation consisting of seven or nine persons. We entered upon him and said: Messenger of Allah, we have visited you, so pray Allah what is good for us. He ordered to give us some dates. The Muslims in those days were weak. We stayed there for several days and offered the Friday prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stood leaning on a staff or a bow. He praised Allah and exalted Him in light, pure and blessed words. Then he said: O people, you have no power to obey or you cannot obey what you are ordered. But be straight and give good tidings. Abu 'Ali said: Did you hear Abu Dawud ? He said: Some of my companions reminded me of some words that were omitted from writing on the paper. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1096)
[Machine] I sat with a man who had companionship with the Prophet ﷺ , named Al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi. He began speaking and mentioned its meaning.
8.131 [Machine] Al-Harith ibn Aqish
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Indeed, among my Ummah (nation) there are those who will intercede for more than Rabia and Mudar, and indeed, among my Ummah there are those who will receive great punishment from the fire until they become a pillar of its pillars."
[Machine] We were at the house of Abu Barzah for a night, and on that night he narrated about the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "There are no two Muslims who die with four sins except that Allah admits them into Paradise by His Mercy." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, and three?" He said: "And three." They said: "And two?" He said: "And two." He said: "And indeed, among my Ummah there are those who will be greatly punished by the Hellfire until one of its sides becomes visible." He said: "And indeed, among my Ummah there are those who will enter Paradise through his intercession, as large as the size of Mount Mudar."
8.132 [Machine] The ruling of Ibn Amr Al-Ghaffari
[Machine] He said, "Yes, and I bear witness to that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us from performing vows (naqeera) and setting limits (muqayyera), or either one of them, and from consuming the meat of sacrifices (dubba) and the hunting of zebras (hantam)."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the consumption of horse meat. He said, "O 'Amr, I forbid the meat of horses." Then he recited the verse, "Say, 'I do not find, within that which was revealed to me, [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it'" (Quran 6:145). It was narrated that Al-Hakam ibn 'Amr Al-Ghifari used to say, 'I forbid the meat of horses."
