8. Shāmīs (20/26)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The difference between our fasting and that of the people of the Book is eating shortly before dawn. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2343)
[Machine] I heard 'Amr ibn al-'As saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me a message, saying, 'Take your clothes and weapons and come to me.' So I went to him and he was performing ablution. He glanced at me and then lowered his gaze. He said, 'I intend to send you on a military expedition, may Allah grant you safety and blessings, and may He bring you booty. And I will give you a portion of the wealth out of righteous desire.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam for the sake of wealth, but I embraced it to become a zealous follower of Islam and to be with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' He said, 'O 'Amr, yes, indeed, wealth is good for a righteous person.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He who shows kindness to the Muslims, shows kindness to the least among them."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The rebellious group will kill him."
[Machine] Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from seeking permission to visit women except with the permission of their husbands.
Eat. He said: I am fasting. 'Amr said: Eat, these are the days on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us to break fast, and forbid us to keep fast. The narrator Malik said: These are the day of al-tashriq (i.e. 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2418)
[Machine] "I am fasting, then the second (day) and the third (day) also. But (he) said, except if you have heard it from the Messenger of Allah. So (he) said, I have heard it from the Messenger of Allah."
[Machine] "While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in this valley, he said, 'Look, do you see anything?' We said, 'We see a crow among the crows, with a red beak and two red legs.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A woman will not enter Paradise if she resembles this crow among the crows.'"
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The difference between our fasting and that of the people of the Book is eating shortly before dawn. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2343)
[Machine] A companion of the Prophet ﷺ passed away and his family did not have enough barley bread. Musa, who refers to barley and oat when mixed together.
[Machine] I heard Amr bin al-Aas delivering a sermon to the people in Egypt, saying, "How far away your guidance is from the guidance of your Prophet ﷺ. As for him, he was the least concerned with the worldly life among the people, while as for you, you are the most desirous of it."
'If a judge passes a judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, and he is indeed correct, he will have two rewards. If he passes judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, but it is incorrect, he will have one reward.'" I narrated it to Abu Bakr bin Hazm and he said: "This is what Abu Salamah narrated to me from Abu Hurairah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3574)
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying that while I was sleeping, the angels came to me and carried the pillar of the Book from under my pillow and took it to Sham (Syria). Verily, faith is where trials are."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Indeed, his killer and the one who took his possessions are in the Fire." It was said to 'Amr: "But you are the one who killed him." He said: "He had only said the killer and the one who took his possessions."
[Machine] About the trench, I gathered a group of men from the Quraysh who used to see my location and hear from me. So I said to them, "Do you know, by Allah, I see Muhammad's matter rising greatly, and I have seen a vision. What do you see in it?" They asked, "What did you see?" I said, "I saw that we meet with the Najashi (King of Abyssinia), so that if Muhammad appears over our people, we will be with the Najashi. Because being under his authority is more beloved to us than being under the authority of Muhammad. And if our people appear, they will only bring us goodness." They said, "This plan is good." So I told them to gather what we will present to the Najashi, and the most beloved thing that could be presented to him was Adham from our land. So we gathered a lot of Adham for him, and we traveled until we reached him. By Allah, we were with him when 'Amr ibn Umayyah Ad-Damri came, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent him to the Najashi regarding Ja'far and his companions. 'Amr entered upon him and then left his presence. So I said to my companions, "This is 'Amr ibn Umayyah. If I had met the Najashi and asked him for him, he would have given him to me and I would have killed him. So when Quraysh saw that I had relieved them by killing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , they let me enter upon him. So I prostrated before him as I used to do, and he said, 'Welcome, my friend. Did you bring me anything from your land?' I said, 'Yes, O King, I have brought you a lot of Adham.' He was amazed by them and liked them. Then I said to him, 'O King, I have seen a man who came from you, and he is a Messenger of a man who is an enemy to us. Give him to me so that I can kill him, for he has harmed some of our nobles and elites.' The Najashi became angry and raised his hand, striking his nose. I thought he had broken it, and if the earth had split open for me, I would have entered it due to him. Then I said to him, 'O King, by Allah, if I had thought that you disliked this, I would not have asked you for it.' He said, 'Do you ask me to give you the Messenger of a man whom the greatest catastrophe used to come to, like that which used to come to Musa, so that you can kill him?' I said, 'O King, is he such?' He said, 'Woe unto you, O 'Amr! Obey him and follow him, for by Allah, he is on the truth and he will be victorious. There will come a time when people will appear against him as Musa appeared against Fir'awn and his soldiers.' I said, 'So pledge allegiance to him for Islam.' He said, 'Yes.' He extended his hand and I pledged allegiance to him for Islam. Then I went out to my companions with my vision being different from what it used to be, and I concealed my Islam from my companions. Then I went out following the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to become Muslim. I met Khalid ibn Al-Walid, who was approaching from Makkah, and I said, 'Where are you, O Abu Sulayman?' He said, 'By Allah, the canyons are straight, and that man is truly a Prophet. I will go and become Muslim.' I asked, 'Until when?' He said, 'By Allah, I only came to become Muslim.' I said, 'We have preceded you in pledging allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' So we arrived to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and Khalid ibn Al-Walid became Muslim and pledged allegiance to him. Then I approached and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I pledge allegiance to you on the condition that you forgive me for what has passed of my sins and that you do not mention them. He ﷺ said, 'O 'Amr, pledge allegiance, for indeed Islam erases what came before it, and Hijrah erases what came before it.' I said, 'So I pledged allegiance to him,' and then I departed." Ibn Ishaq said, "I have narrated this story to you from a trustworthy person." Uthman ibn Talhah ibn Abi Talhah was with them when they became Muslim.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He will be killed by the rebellious group." Then Amr ibn al-Aas rushed in fear until he entered upon Muawiyah. Muawiyah asked him, "What is the matter with you?" He replied, "Amr has been killed." Muawiyah said, "Has Ammar been killed? So what?" Amr said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'He will be killed by the rebellious group.'" Muawiyah said to him, "Are you refuting your own urine? Did we kill him? Ali and his companions were the ones who killed him. They brought him until they threw him among our spears or swords."

[Machine] He invited a Bedouin to food, and that was after the sacrifice by a day. The Bedouin said, "I am fasting." He said to him, "Indeed, 'Amr ibn al-'As invited a man to food on this day, and he said, 'I am fasting.' 'Amr said, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on this day.'"

[Machine] His son, Abdullah, said to him, "Why do you cry so fearfully over death?" He replied, "No, by Allah, but for what comes after." So he said to him, "You were indeed in a good state." He then reminded him of his companionship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his conquests in Sham. 'Amr ibn Al-'As said, "You left what is better than all of that, the testimony that there is no god but Allah. I was in three categories, in which I recognized myself. I was the first to be a disbeliever, and I was the harshest of people towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . If I had died then, the Hellfire would have been obligatory for me. But when I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I was the most modest of people towards him. I never filled my eyes with the sight of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ nor did I ever ask him anything except that he fulfilled it for me. I remained modest towards him until he met Allah. If I were to die today, people would say, "How blessed is 'Amr! He embraced Islam and was on a good path." So when he died, Paradise was given to him as his reward. Then I became immersed in the worldly authority and other things. So I do not know whether I did it for myself or for someone else. But when I die, do not cry over me, do not give me any eulogy, do not light a fire, and hold tight to my garment, for I am disputing. Cover me with soil quickly, for my right side is no more deserving of soil than my left side. And do not place any wooden plank or stone in my grave. When you bury me, sit by me at the measure of the slaughter of a sheep, and keep me company."

[Machine] "O Abu Abdullah, what is this grief, while the Messenger of Allah used to be close to you and seek your assistance?" He said, "O my son, it was like that. I will inform you about it. By Allah, I do not know whether it was love or compassion that brought us together. However, I bear witness to two men who have passed away and I loved them dearly. They are Ibn Sumayyah and Ibn Umm Abd. When he was telling me this, he put his hand on the place where the necklace is worn and said, 'O Allah, you commanded us and we obeyed, you forbade us and we abstained. We have nothing but to seek your forgiveness.' And this was his last statement until he died."

8.112 [Machine] Amr Al-Ansari
[Machine] While he was walking and lifting his garment, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up to him and held the edge of his garment, saying, "O Allah, this is your servant, the son of your servant, the son of your maidservant." 'Amr said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have large calves." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O 'Amr, Allah has perfected everything He has created." Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hit 'Amr with four fingers on his right hand below 'Amr's knee and said, "O 'Amr, this is the place of the garment." Then, he raised his hand and hit 'Amr with four fingers from beneath the first four fingers and said, "O 'Amr, this is the place of the garment." Then, he placed his hand under the second fingers and said, "O 'Amr, this is the place of the garment."

8.113 [Machine] Qais Al Jadhami
[Machine] On the authority of Qais Al-Judhami, a man who had companions, he said: The Prophet ﷺ said that the martyr is granted six qualities at the first drop of his blood. All his sins are forgiven, his place in Paradise is shown to him, he is married to the fairest of the fair, he is protected from the greatest terror, and from the punishment of the grave, and he is adorned with the ornament of faith.
8.114 [Machine] My father, the barrel of Al Khawlani.
Allah gives opportunities to do righteous acts for the ones he wills good
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah wills goodness for a servant, He sweetens him.” It was said, “What would be his sweetness?” The Prophet said, “Allah opens the door of righteous deeds for him before his death and then receives his soul in that state.”
[Machine] I saw seven companions who had accompanied the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , and two of them had consumed blood during the pre-Islamic period, but they did not accompany the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . The two who did not accompany the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are Abu 'Inabah al-Khawlani and Abu Falij al-Anmari.
[Machine] It was mentioned in the presence of Abi 'Anabah al-Khawlani that the martyrs were mentioned, so they mentioned the mutilated, the poisoned, and the drowned. Abu 'Anabah became angry and said, "Our companions narrated to us from our Prophet ﷺ that he said, 'The martyrs of Allah are the most trustworthy of His creation on the earth, they are either killed or die.'"
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Allah will continue to establish in this religion a group of people who will implement it in their obedience to Him."
8.115 [Machine] Samra bin Fatah al-Asadi
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ said, 'What an excellent young man Samurah is! If he were to take from his cloak and uncover from his waistcloth.' So Samurah did exactly that; he took from his cloak and uncovered from his waistcloth."
8.116 [Machine] Ziyad Bin Nuaim Al-Hadrami
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There are four things that Allah has made obligatory in Islam, and whoever brings three of them will not be benefitted by anything until he completes them all: prayer, zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and pilgrimage to the House."
8.117 [Machine] The remaining conversation of Uqbah Bin Aamir Al-Juhani.
[Machine] He heard Uqbah bin Aamir saying, "I do not say today about the Messenger of Allah what I did not hear the Messenger of Allah say. Whoever lies about me, let him prepare a place for himself in Hellfire."
[Machine] "I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Two men from my Ummah (nation) will rise, one of them will treat himself with purification and wear a necklace. He will perform ablution, and when he washes his hands, the necklace will come undone, and when he washes his face, the necklace will come undone, and when he wipes his head, the necklace will come undone, and when he washes his feet, the necklace will come undone, and Allah will say to those behind the veil, 'Look at my servant, he treats himself and asks Me for what my servant asked for, so it is for him."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to recite Mu'awwidhatan (the last two surahs of the Qur'an) after every prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1523)
The sister of Uqbah ibn Amir took a vow that she would perform hajj on foot, and she was unable to do so. The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah is not in need of the walking of your sister. She must ride and offer a sacrificial camel. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3303)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Your Lord says: O son of Adam, can you not afford to offer four units of prayer at the beginning of the day to suffice for you until the end of your day?'"
[Machine] So we said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you, why don't you believe in us while you are from the companions of Muhammad ﷺ?" He said, "No, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever leads the people and prays on time and properly, then he and they will have a reward, and whoever falls short in that, then it is upon him and not upon them."
The Prophet ﷺ said: One who recites the Qur'an in a loud voice is like one who gives alms openly; and one who recites the Qur'an quietly is one who gives alms secretly. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1333)
8.118 [Machine] The remaining conversation of worshiper ibn al-Samit
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned with Abdullah ibn Rawahah, but he did not find a place on his bed, so he said, "Do you know who the martyrs of my Ummah (nation) are?" They said, "The killing of a Muslim is martyrdom." He said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my Ummah are few. The killing of a Muslim is martyrdom, and the plague is martyrdom, and a woman is killed by her child while they are together."
8.119 [Machine] My father, Aamer Al-Ash'ari.
[Machine] Abu 'Amir al-Ash'ari was a man who was killed among them with spears, so the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "O Abu 'Amir, did you change?" So he recited this verse, "O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided." [Surah Al-Ma'idah 105] So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, "Where have you gone? It is only, O you who have believed, that those who have gone astray among the disbelievers will not harm you when you have been guided."
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said: "The greatest of thefts in the sight of Allah is when you find two neighboring men in the land or in a house, and one of them takes a portion of his neighbor's share, a forearm's length. When he takes it, it is as if he has encircled it from seven Earths until the Day of Resurrection."
8.120 [Machine] Al-Harith Al-Ash'ari on the Prophet ﷺ
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed Allah commanded Yahya bin Zakariyya with five commandments to abide by, and to command the Children of Isra'il to abide by them. But he was slow in doing so. So 'Eisa said: 'Indeed Allah commanded you with five commandments to abide by and to command the Children of Isra'il to abide by. Either you command them, or I shall command them.' So Yahya said: 'I fear that if you precede me in this, then the earth may swallow me, or I shall be punished.' So he gathered the people in Jerusalem, and they filled [the Masjid] and sat upon its balconies. So he said: 'Indeed Allah has commanded me with five commandments to abide by, and to command you to abide by. The first of them is that you worship Allah and not associate anything with him. The parable of the one who associates others with Allah is that of a man who buys a servant with his own gold or silver, then he says to him: "This is my home and this is my business so take care of it and give me the profits." So he takes care of it and gives the profits to someone other than his master. Which of you would live to have a servant like that? And Allah commands you to perform Salat, and when you perform Salat then do not turn away, for Allah is facing the face of His worshipers as long as he does not turn away. And He commands you with fasting. For indeed the parable of fasting, is that of a man in a group with a sachet containing musk. All of them enjoy its fragrance. Indeed the breath of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk. And He commands you to give charity. The parable of that, is a man captured by his enemies, tying his hands to his neck, and they come to him to beat his neck. Then he said: "I can ransom myself from you with a little or a lot" so he ransoms himself from them. And He commands you to remember Allah. For indeed the parable of that, is a man whose enemy quickly tracks him until he reaches an impermeable fortress in which he protects himself from them. This is how the worshiper is; he does not protect himself from Ash-Shaitan except by the remembrance of Allah.'" The Prophet ﷺ said: "And I command you with five that Allah commanded me: Listening and obeying, Jihad, Hijrah, and the Jama'ah. For indeed whoever parts from the Jama'ah the measure of a hand-span, then he has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck, unless he returns. And whoever calls with the call of Jahiliyyah then he is from the coals of Hell." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Even if he performs Salat and fasts?" So he ﷺ said: "Even if he performs Salat and fasts. So call with the call that Allah named you with: Muslims, believers, worshipers of Allah." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2863)

8.121 [Machine] The remaining speech of Amr ibn al-Aas about the Prophet ﷺ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The difference between our fasting and that of the people of the Book is eating shortly before dawn. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2343)
[Machine] "For me, O Amr, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Strengthen your weapon and clothes, and come to me.' So, I did as he commanded and went to him. He was performing ablution, so I looked at him attentively and observed his movements. Then, he said, 'O Amr, I want to appoint you as a leader, so may Allah grant you security and provide you with spoils of war. And I have selected for you a bountiful share of wealth.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam out of desire for wealth, but rather out of desire for jihad and companionship with you.' He said, 'O Amr, there is indeed goodness in wealth for a righteous person.' According to another version, he said, 'O Amr, there is indeed goodness in earning wealth through righteous means.' Abu Ubayd mentioned that the correct version has "kasr al-nun" and "kasr al-ayn" instead of "nasb al-nun" and "kasr al-ayn", respectively."
[Machine] "Do not impose upon us the custom of our Prophet when his wife, the mother of his child, dies, for he mourned for her for four months and ten days."
I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ quite audibly and not secretly: Behold! the posterity of my fathers, that is, so and so, are not my friends. Verily Allah and the pious believers are my friends. (Using translation from Muslim 215)
[Machine] "He sent him to Ali, seeking his permission to meet Asma bint Umays. So Ali granted him permission until he finished his business. Then he asked the master, Umar, about that, and he said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us or forbade entering upon women without the permission of their husbands."
A similar report was narrated from 'Aishah from the Messenger of Allah. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4929)
[Machine] A man said to 'Amr ibn al-'As, "Did you not see a man who died while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved him? Was he not a righteous man?" 'Amr replied, "Yes, indeed." He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has died while he loved you and utilized your services." 'Amr said, "Indeed, he utilized me, but by Allah, I do not know whether he loved me or sought my assistance. However, I will tell you about two men whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved and they loved him: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and 'Ammar ibn Yasir."
[Machine] Allah will place this matter in the hands of a majority of the Arab people, except for others. Amr ibn Al-Aas said, "You have lied! I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The Quraysh are the leaders of the people in both goodness and evil until the Day of Judgment.'"
[Machine] Amr ibn Al-Aas said, "How far are you from the guidance of your Prophet ﷺ ! As for him, he was the least attached to worldly possessions among people, while you are the most desirous of them."
[Machine] There was a panic in the city, so I went to Salim, the servant of Abu Hudhayfah, who was sharpening his sword. I took a sword and sharpened it with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O people, shouldn't your panic be towards Allah and His Messenger?" Then he said, "Shouldn't you do as these two believing men did?"
Who amongst people are dearest to you? He said: A'isha. He then said: Who amongst men? He said: Her father, and I said: And who next? He said: Umar. He then enumerated some other men. (Using translation from Muslim 2384)
