that 'Umar bin Al-Khattab was asked about this Ayah: And when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed and made them testify as to themselves: "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: 'Verily, we have been unaware of this (7:172).'" So 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed Allah created Adam, then He wiped his back with His Right Hand, and his offspring came out of him. So he said: "I created these for Paradise, and they will do the deeds of the people of Paradise." Then He wiped his back, and his offspring came out of him. So He said: "I created these for the Fire, and they will do the deeds of the people of the Fire." A man said: 'Then of what good is doing deeds O Messenger of Allah!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Verily, when Allah created a man for Paradise, He makes him perform the deeds of the people of Paradise, until he dies doing one of the deeds of the people of Paradise. So Allah will admit him into Paradise. And when He created a man for the Fire, He makes him perform the deeds of the people of the Fire until he dies doing the deeds of the people of the Fire. So Allah will enter him into the Fire.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3075)

Satan has despaired of ever being worshipping in this land of yours, but he will be obeyed in some matters which you regard as insignificant, and he will be content with that. While we were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was distributing (i.e. some property), there came Dhu-l- Khuwaisira, a man from the tribe of Bani Tamim and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Do Justice." The Prophet said, "Woe to you! Who could do justice if I did not? I would be a desperate loser if I did not do justice." ʿUmar said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Allow me to chop his head off." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave him, for he has companions who pray and fast in such a way that you will consider your fasting negligible in comparison to theirs. They recite Qur'an but it does not go beyond their throats (i.e. they do not act on it) and they will desert Islam as an arrow goes through a victim's body, so that the hunter, on looking at the arrow's blade, would see nothing on it; he would look at its Risaf and see nothing: he would look at its Na,di and see nothing, and he would look at its Qudhadh ( 1 ) and see nothing (neither meat nor blood), for the arrow has been too fast even for the blood and excretions to smear. The sign by which they will be recognized is that among them there will be a black man, one of whose arms will resemble a woman's breast or a lump of meat moving loosely. Those people will appear when there will be differences amongst the people." I testify that I heard this narration from Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I testify that ʿAli bin Abi Talib fought with such people, and I was in his company. He ordered that the man (described by the Prophet ﷺ ) should be looked for. The man was brought and I looked at him and noticed that he looked exactly as the Prophet ﷺ had described him. He (the Holy Prophet) gave to the chiefs of Najd and ignored us. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have done it with a view to conciliating between them. Then there came a person with thick beard, prominent cheeks, deep sunken eyes and protruding forehead and shaven head. He said: Muhammad, fear Allah. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If I disobey Allah, who would then obey Him? Have I not been (sent as the) most trustworthy among the people of the world? But you do not repose trust in me." That person then went back. A person among the people then sought permission (from the Holy Prophet) for his murder. According to some, it was Khalid b. Walid who sought the permission. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: From this very person's posterity there would arise people who would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throat; they would kill the followers of Islam and would spare the idol-worshippers. They would glance through the teachings of Islam so hurriedly just as the arrow passes through the pray. If I were to ever find them I would kill them like 'Ad. When ʿAbdullah bin Ubai bin Salul died, Messenger of Allah ﷺ was called upon to offer his funeral prayer. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to offer the prayer, I got up quickly and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Are you going to pray for Ibn Ubai and he said so and so on such and such occasions?" And started mentioning all that he had said. Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, "O ʿUmar! Go away from me." When I talked too much he said, "I have been given the choice and so I have chosen (to offer the prayer). Had I known that he would be forgiven by asking for Allah's forgiveness for more than seventy times, surely I would have done so." (ʿUmar added): Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered his funeral prayer and returned and after a short while the two verses of Surat Bara' were revealed: i.e. "And never (O Muhammad) pray for any of them who dies . . . (to the end of the verse) rebellion (9.84)" -- (ʿUmar added), "Later I astonished at my daring before Messenger of Allah ﷺ on that day. And Allah and His Apostle know better." [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to ask his companions, "Has anyone among you had a dream?" Whoever wanted to share their dream would do so. One day, he said to us, "I was brought by two angels last night. They told me to come with them, so I went along. We arrived at a city made of gold and silver bricks. We reached the city gate and asked for it to be opened. It was opened for us, and we entered. Inside, we were greeted by people who were, physically, a mix of the most beautiful and the most ugly human beings. The angels told them to go and they fell into a river. Surprisingly, the river flowed as if it were pure milk in terms of whiteness. They went into the river and then returned to us, completely transformed into the most beautiful forms. They said to me, 'This is the Paradise of Eden, and this is where you will reside.' While I was ascending, I saw a palace and they said to me, 'This is your dwelling place.' I said to them, 'May Allah bless you. Allow me to enter it.' They replied, 'Not now, you will enter it later.' The people who were a mixture of good and ugly then said, 'Indeed, they have combined good deeds with bad ones, so Allah has forgiven and pardoned them.'"

Note: Due to length limitations, I had to shorten the translation. The final phrase "مُخْتَصَرٌ" means "shortened," as in, the passage was shortened.

nasai-kubra:11154Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Makkī > Fuḍayl / Ibn ʿIyāḍ > Ḥuṣayn > Zayd b. And Hb

[Machine] I came to Al-Rabdhah and visited Abu Dhar. I asked him, "What has come to you?" He said, "I was in Sham (Syria) and I recited this verse {And those who hoard up gold and silver and spend it not} [At-Tawbah, 9:34] until the end of the verse." Muawiyah said, "This verse was not revealed about us, it is only revealed about the people of the Book." I said, "It was revealed about us and the people of the Book." This continued until there was a disagreement and a dispute. I wrote to Uthman complaining about them. Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, replied, "Come forward." So, I came to Madinah and the people followed me as if they had never seen me before. I entered upon Uthman and complained to him about that. He said, "Keep quiet and stay close." So, I stayed in this house and by Allah, if I were commanded to walk towards the Abyssinians, I would not disobey or retract my statement.
