54. Tafsīr (Exegesis) (4/15)
[Machine] Narrated Anas from the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , about intercession. Anas said, Muhammad, ﷺ , said, "On the Day of Judgment, people will run away from one another, and Adam will be approached and it will be said to him, 'O Adam, intercede for your descendants.' He will say, 'I am not able to do so, but go to Ibrahim, for he is the intimate friend of the Most Merciful.' Ibrahim will be approached and he will say, 'I am not able to do so, but go to Musa, for he is the one who conversed with Allah.' Musa will be approached and he will say, 'I am not able to do so, but go to Isa, for he is the Spirit of Allah and His Word.' Isa will be approached and he will say, 'I am not able to do so, but go to Muhammad, ﷺ , for he is the best of creation.' So Muhammad, ﷺ , will be approached and it will be said to him, 'O Muhammad, intercede for your Ummah (nation).' He will say, 'I am able to do so.' Then I will seek permission from my Lord, and permission will be granted to me. I will then stand in front of Him and He will inspire me with praises that I will not be able to comprehend at that moment. I will praise Him with those praises, then prostrate before Him. It will be said to me, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak. You will be heard, and ask, you will be granted, and intercede, your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah.' It will be said, 'Go forth, and whoever has even an atom's weight of faith in his heart, take him out of the Fire.' So I will go forth and do that, then I will return, praising Him with those praises. I will prostrate before Him again, and it will be said to me, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak. You will be heard, and ask, you will be granted, and intercede, your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah.' It will be said, 'Go forth, and whoever has even an atom's weight of mustard seed of faith in his heart, take him out of the Fire.' So I will go forth and do that, then I will return, praising Him with those praises. I will prostrate before Him again, and it will be said to me, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak. You will be heard, and ask, you will be granted, and intercede, your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah.' It will be said, 'Go forth, and whoever has even an atom's weight lesser than that of faith in his heart, take him out of the Fire.' So I will go forth and do that." This is the account of Anas, and it reaches its conclusion.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "If anyone testifies that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His Slave and His Apostle, and that Jesus is Allah's Slave and His Apostle and His Word which He bestowed on Mary and a Spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he had done even if those deeds were few." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3435)

The last verse revealed about the decease who left no descendants or ascendants: "They ask thee for the legal decision. Say: Allah directs (thus) about those who leave no descendants or ascendants as heirs." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2888)
Once I fell ill. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr came walking to pay me a visit and found me unconscious. The Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and then poured the remaining water on me, and I came to my senses to see the Prophet. I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What shall I do with my property? How shall I dispose of (distribute) my property?" He did not reply till the Verse of inheritance was revealed. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5651)
[Machine] I do not leave anything that is more important to me than forgiveness, and nothing has ever hurt me as much as the company of those who do not forgive. I will not be swayed by forgiveness until he punctuated my chest with his finger and said, "O Umar, what is sufficient for you is the verse of the summer in Surah An-Nisa'. And indeed, if I were to live, I would pass judgment in it, being the one who recites the Quran and the one who does not."- in summary.
[Machine] The last verses revealed in the Quran are the last verses of Surah An-Nisa.
54.5 Sūrat al-Māʾidah
A Jew said to ʿUmar: "If this Verse had been revealed to us, we would have taken it as a festival (Eid): 'This day, I have perfected your religion for you.'" Umar said: "I know the day when it was revealed and the night on which it was revealed: a Friday night when we were with Messenger of Allah in Arafat." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3002)
[Machine] Indeed, it is the last surah that was revealed. So whatever you find in it as permissible, consider it permissible. And whatever you find in it as forbidden, consider it forbidden. And I asked it about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and it said, "The Quran."
[Machine] Whoever disbelieves in stoning has disbelieved in the Quran from the perspective of not considering it, and this is the saying of Allah the Exalted: "O people of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much." [Al-Ma'idah 15] So, stoning was among what they used to conceal.
Some people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW] but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Prophet [SAW] told them to go to the camels that had been given in Sadaqah and drink some of their milk and urine. They did that, then they killed their herdsman and drove off the camels. The Prophet [SAW] sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out, and he did not have (their wounds) cauterized, and he left them to die. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4025)
The people passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a Jew who was blackened with charcoal and who was being flogged. He called them and said: Is this the prescribed punishment for a fornicator? They said: Yes. He then called on a learned man among them and asked him: I adjure you by Allah Who revealed the Torah to Moses, do you find this prescribed punishment for a fornicator in your divine Book? He said: By Allah, no. If you had not adjured me about this, I should not have informed you. We find stoning to be prescribed punishment for a fornicator in our Divine Book. But it (fornication) became frequent in our people of rank; so when we seized a person of rank, we left him alone, and when we seized a weak person, we inflicted the prescribed punishment on him. So we said: Come, let us agree on something which may be enforced equally on people of higher and lower rank. So we agreed to blacken the face of a criminal with charcoal, and flog him, and we abandoned stoning. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: O Allah, I am the first to give life to Thy command which they have killed. So he commanded regarding him (the Jew) and he was stoned to death. Allah Most High then sent down: "O Apostle, let not those who race one another into unbelief, make thee grieve..." up to "They say: If you are given this, take it, but if not, beware!...." up to "And if any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) unbelievers," about Jews, up to "And if any do fail to judge by (the right of) what Allah hath revealed, they are no better than) wrong-doers" about Jews: and revealed the verses up to "And if any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel." About this he said: This whole verse was revealed about the infidels. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4448)

“Rubai, the paternal aunt of Anas, broke the tooth of a girl and they (her family) asked (the girl's family) to let her off, but they refused. They offered to pay compensatory money, but they refused. So they came to Prophet ﷺ who ordered retaliation. Anas bin Nadr said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, will the tooth of Rubai' be broken? By the One Who sent you with the truth, it will not be broken!' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Anas, what Allah has decreed is retaliation.' So the people accepted that and forgave her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'there are among the slaves of Allah those who, if they swear by Allah, Allah fulfills their oath.'” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2649)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whosoever gives in charity from his own body, Allah will expiate from him sins equivalent to that (act of charity)."
"I was reclining in the presence of 'Aishah when she said: 'O Abu 'Aishah! There are three things, whoever speaks of one of them, then he has uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Whoever claims that Muhammad saw his Lord. Then he has uttered one the worst lies against Allah, Allah says: No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision, and He is the Most Subtle, Well-Acquainted with all things (6:103). It is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him unless (it be) by revelation or from behind a veil (42:51).' I was reclining so I sat up an said: 'O Mother of the Believers! Take your time with me and do not be hasty with me! Did Allah Most High not say: And indeed he saw him at a second descent (53:13). (And) 'And indeed he saw him in the clear horizon (81:23).' She said 'By Allah! I was the first who asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this. He said: "That was only Jibril. I did not see him in the appearance he was created in except for these two times. I saw him descending from the heavens, and due to his tremendous size he filled what was between the heavens and the earth." "And whoever claimed that Muhammad hid anything that Allah revealed to him, then he uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Allah says: O Messenger! Proclaim what has been sent down to you from your Lord (5:67)." "And whoever claimed that he ﷺ knew what would be tomorrow, then he has uttered one of the worst lies against Allah. Allah says: Say: 'None in the heavens and in the earth knows the unseen but Allah (27:65).'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3068)

We used to participate in the holy wars carried on by the Prophet ﷺ and we had no women (wives) with us. So we said (to the Prophet ﷺ ). "Shall we castrate ourselves?" But the Prophet ﷺ forbade us to do that and thenceforth he allowed us to marry a woman (temporarily) by giving her even a garment, and then he recited: "O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4615)

[Machine] The prohibition of alcohol was revealed in two tribes of the Ansar. They were drinking until they became intoxicated and started to harm each other. When they sobered up, the man saw the marks on his face, head, and beard, and said, "My brother did this to me." They were brothers with no animosity in their hearts. By Allah, if my Lord were compassionate and merciful, He would not have done this to me." And so, animosity arose in their hearts. Then Allah revealed, "Indeed, intoxicants, gambling... are but defilement... So will you not desist?" Some people said, "It is impure and in the stomach of so-and-so, so-and-so was killed on the Day of Badr and so-and-so was killed on the Day of Uhud." Then Allah revealed, "There shall be no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds... when they fear Allah and believe and do righteous deeds."

Paradise and Hell were presented to me and I have never seen the good and evil as (I did) today. And if you were to know you would have wept more and laughed less. He (the narrator) said: There was nothing more burdensome for the Companions of Messenger of Allah ﷺ than this. They covered their heads and the sound of weeping was heard from them. Then there stood up 'Umar and he said: We are well pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our code of life and with Muhammad as our Apostle, and it was at that time that a person stood up and he said: Who is my father? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Your father is so and so; and there was revealed the verse:" O you who believe, do not ask about matters which, if they were to be made manifest to you (in terms of law), might cause to you harm" (v. 101). [Machine] I came to the Prophet and he looked at me attentively and straightened up. He said, "Do you have any camels or sheep?" I replied, "God has blessed me with plenty of both and they are flourishing." He then asked, "Don't you mix them together, separating the males from the females, and you can discern between them by their ears?" I said, "Indeed, I do just that, with the help of God and the knowledge bestowed upon me."

Abu Bakr stood up and praised and glorified Allah, then he said: O people, you recite this verse: ʿO you who believe! Take care of your ownselves. If you follow the (right) guidance (and enjoin what is right (Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbid what is wrong (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden)] no hurt can come to you from those who are in errorʿ (al-Ma'idah 5:105]. Some people asked: Messenger of Allah, how should we invoke blessings on you? He said: Say,” O Allah, bless Muhammad, his wives and his off springs, as Thou didst bless Abraham’s family, and grant favours to Muhammad’s family, his wives and off springs, as Thou didst grant favours to Abraham’s family. Thou art indeed praiseworthy and glorious. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 979)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know where this sun goes?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Verily, it goes and runs its course until it reaches its resting place under the Throne. Then it is said to it, 'Rise up and shine from your setting place, so it rises from its setting place." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know what that is?" That is the time when the Verse is applicable, 'No soul will be benefited by its faith if it had not believed before' (Quran 6:158)."

[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding a conversation about desires? He said, "Yes, we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey called 'Asim' when a man from the outskirts of the tribe called him with a loud voice and a strong accent, saying, 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad!' The people said to him, 'Stop, you have been prohibited from doing this.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered him in a similar voice, saying, 'Ha'um, Ha'um.' The man asked, 'He loves the people, but why do they not keep up with him?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A person is with those whom he loves.' He continued narrating to us until he informed us that Allah has made a door for repentance in the west, the width of which takes seventy years to pass through. It does not close until the sun rises from its place. And that is the saying of Allah (SWT), 'The day when some of the signs of your Lord will come, no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it has not believed before or earned in its faith any good.' [Surah Al-Anaam 158]
