61. Sacrificial Animals
The Prophet ﷺ ordered a horned ram with black legs, black belly and black round the eyes, and it was brought from him to sacrifice. He said: 'Aishah, get the knife then he said: Sharpen it with a stone. So I did. He took it, then take the ram he placed it on the ground and slaughtered it. He then said: In the name of Allah. O Allah, accept it for Muhammad, Muhammad's family and Muhammad's people. Then he sacrificed it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2792)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be brought two rams in the morning, with black legs, salted and standing with their horns. He would slaughter one of them on behalf of his ummah who testified to the oneness of Allah and testified to him as a Messenger. And he would slaughter the other ram on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. In another narration, when it was morning, he would buy two fat rams with black legs, salted and standing with their horns. This was mentioned by Hammad ibn Salamah, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil, from Abdul Rahman ibn Jabir, from his father. And it was narrated by Zuhair ibn Muhammad, from Abdullah, from Ali ibn Hussain, from Abu Rafi'. And it is as if he heard it from the two of them.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was brought two huge, dark, horned rams, so he laid down one of them and said, “In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad.” Then he laid down the other one and said, “In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah, from among those who have testified to Your oneness and testified to my Prophethood.” Then he slaughtered it.
[Machine] From Abu Rafa', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to buy two fat rams when he performed the sacrifice (on Eid al-Adha). He would slaughter one of them himself with his own hand, saying, "This is on behalf of my Ummah, everyone who testifies to your Oneness and testifies to my Prophethood." Then he would bring the other ram and slaughter it, saying, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." He would then distribute the meat among the poor, while he and his family would eat from it. We remained in this state for several years. Allah sufficed us with provisions and removed any need for financial assistance from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . No one from the Banu Hashim (his tribe) would sacrifice (any animals) after that.
[Machine] I was one of seven with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to each contribute a dirham. So we bought a sacrificial animal with seven dirhams. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have paid a high price for it." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, the best sacrifice is the most expensive and the dearest to its owner." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded a man to hold it by the hand, another man by the hand, another man by the leg, another man by the horn, another man by the horn, and the seventh man slaughtered it, and we all said the Takbir (Allahu Akbar) over it.
[Machine] I was seventh among seven with the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ . He commanded us, so each of us gathered a dirham and we bought a sacrificial animal with seven dirhams. He ordered that it be taken, and he mentioned the hadith. He said: "The rest of it." I said to Hammad ibn Zaid, "Who is the seventh?" He said, "I do not know." I said, "The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ ."
who was born during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ that his mother, Zainab bint Humaid had taken him to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Take his Pledge of allegiance (for Islam)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "He (ʿAbdullah bin Hisham) is a little child," and passed his hand over his head and invoked Allah for him. ʿAbdullah bin Hisham used to slaughter one sheep as a sacrifice on behalf of all of his family. (Using translation from Bukhārī 7210)
[Machine] And about his household, then the people began to boast, and it became a competition.
“My family started to put pressure on me after I came to know the Sunnah. People used to sacrifice one or two sheep, but now our neighbors call us stingy.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3148)
[Machine] Abu Huraira used to bring the sheep and his family would ask: 'And what about us?' And he would reply: 'And what about you?'
