61. Sacrificial Animals
[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when a man came on a riding animal and began swaying it left and right. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has extra provisions from his mount, let him share it with someone who does not have provisions. And whoever has extra provisions with him, let him share it with someone who does not have any provisions." He mentioned different types of wealth until we realized that none of us had any right to claim superiority in wealth.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and free the captives."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "The believer is not the one who fills his stomach while his neighbor is hungry." This is a narration from Abu Ahmad.
[Machine] Some people from the Ansar traveled and became widowed. They came upon a tribe of Arabs and asked them for provisions or water, but they refused. They captured them and mistreated them. The Bedouins went to Umar and the Ansar felt sorry for what happened. Umar understood their situation and said, "Do you prevent the traveler from what Allah has allowed for the camels and sheep day and night? The traveler has more right to water than the water skin on this (animal)." This statement is from the narration of Sulayman, and in the narration of Yahya ibn Adam, it is mentioned that some of the Ansar became widowed and passed by a tribe of Bedouins. They asked them for goods, but they refused. They asked them for water, but they refused. They captured them and took their belongings. Umar then said, "Do you prevent the traveler from what Allah has allowed for the livestock day and night? And Ibn as-Sabil has more right to water than the water skin on this (animal)."
[Machine] The wayfarer is more entitled to water and shade than the one who turns him away.
[Machine] To feed him and to fear for his own life, he killed them.
