61. Sacrificial Animals
The Prophet ﷺ ordered a horned ram with black legs, black belly and black round the eyes, and it was brought from him to sacrifice. He said: 'Aishah, get the knife then he said: Sharpen it with a stone. So I did. He took it, then take the ram he placed it on the ground and slaughtered it. He then said: In the name of Allah. O Allah, accept it for Muhammad, Muhammad's family and Muhammad's people. Then he sacrificed it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2792)
I witnessed sacrificing along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the place of prayer. When he finished his sermon, he descended from his pulpit, and a ram was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered it with his hand, and said: In the name of Allah, Allah, is Most Great. This is from me and from those who did not sacrifice from my community. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2810)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ slaughtered two male, horned, salted, and vetted sheep. When he faced them, he said, "Indeed, I have faced my face to the one who created the heavens and the earth, following the religion of Ibrahim, a sincere worshipper. And I am not of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. And with this, I have been commanded, and I am of the Muslims." O Allah, it is from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah. In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Then he slaughtered. This wording is attributed to Eesa bin Yunus, and in the narration of Al-Wahbi, it is attributed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he slaughtered two sheep on the day of Eid. When he faced them, he said the supplication, and then he said, "O Allah, it is from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah." He mentioned the names of Allah and slaughtered. This was narrated by Ibrahim bin Tahman from Muhammad bin Ishaq, and it was said in the Hadith that he faced them towards the Qibla when he slaughtered. And it was narrated by Muhammad bin Ishaq from Yazid bin Khalid bin Abi Imran from Abu Ayyash from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "It has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ through an authentic chain of narration that he slaughtered two sheep in a manner that cannot be emulated. He said after mentioning Allah, 'O Allah, it is from Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.' In another narration, 'O Allah, it is on behalf of Muhammad and the Ummah of Muhammad.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice two horned rams. He would begin with one of them and say, "In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, (this sacrifice is) from You and for You on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah, whoever testifies to Your Oneness and testifies to my Prophethood." And then he would slaughter the other ram and say the same words, except replacing "from You and for You" with "from Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." This is the wording of the hadith of Ibn Bashran and in the narration of Ibn Abdan it is mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ used to buy two fat, horned rams, salted (preserved), and sacrificed one of them on behalf of his Ummah, whoever testifies to his Prophethood and testifies to his message, and the other on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad."
[Machine] I said to him his saying, 'And the sacrificial camels - We have made them for you as among the symbols of Allah, for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allah upon them when lined up [for sacrifice].' He said, 'When you intend to slaughter the sacrificial animal, then establish it (i.e., its place) and say, "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. O Allah, it is from You and for You," then invoke [the name of] Allah and then slaughter it.' I said, 'And should I say that during the Eid sacrifice?' He said, 'And the Eid sacrifice.'
[Machine] "And he said: In the name of Allah, O Allah, this is from You and to You, and from Muhammad it is for You. Then he commanded with it and gave it as a charity. Then another ram was brought to him, and he slaughtered it and said: In the name of Allah, O Allah, this is from You and to You, and from Ali it is for You. He said: Then he said: Bring me a piece of it and give charity with the rest."
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and with a sheep on behalf of himself, we said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful), should we offer a sacrifice for the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ?" He said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , commanded me to always offer a sacrifice on his behalf; therefore, I will always offer a sacrifice on his behalf."
[Machine] That Abdullah ibn Umar did not sacrifice what is inside the woman's belly.
