61.110 [Machine] The prohibition of using intoxicants as medicine

٦١۔١١٠ بَابُ النَّهْيِ عَنِ التَّدَاوِي بِالْمُسْكِرِ

[Machine] That Tariq ibn Suwayd or Suwayd ibn Tariq, a man from the Jufi tribe, asked the Prophet ﷺ about alcohol and he forbade its production. He said that it is medicine. The Prophet ﷺ said that it is not medicine, but a disease.  

البيهقي:١٩٦٧٦أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ طَارِقَ بْنَ سُوَيْدٍ أَوْ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ طَارِقٍ رَجُلًا مِنْ جُعْفِيٍّ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ فَنَهَى عَنْ صَنْعَتِهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا دَوَاءٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ بِدَوَاءٍ وَلَكِنَّهَا دَاءٌ  

أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ غُنْدَرٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ وَقَالَ إِنَّ طَارِقَ بْنَ سُوَيْدٍ سَأَلَ

[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "When Allah sent down Adam to the earth, the angels said, 'Will You place therein one who will cause corruption therein and shed blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' Allah said, 'I know that which you do not know.' They said, 'Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.' Allah said, 'O Adam, inform them of their names.' And when he had informed them of their names, He said, 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.' And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers. And We said, 'O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.' But Satan caused them to slip out of it and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been. And We said, 'Go down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have upon the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time.' Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. We said, 'Descend from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs - those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.' O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me. And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is [already] with you, and be not the first to disbelieve in it. And do not exchange My signs for a small price, and fear [only] Me. And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]. And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]. Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لَمَّا أَهْبَطَهُ اللهُ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَيْ رَبِّ {أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَنْ يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ} [البقرة 30] قَالُوا رَبَّنَا نَحْنُ أَطْوَعُ لَكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ قَالَ اللهُ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ هَلُمُّوا مَلَكَيْنِ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ حَتَّى نُهْبِطَهُمَا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ فَنَنْظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا هَارُوتُ وَمَارُوتُ فَأُهْبِطَا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ وَمُثِّلَتْ لَهُمَا الزَّهْرَةُ امْرَأَةً مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْبَشَرِ فَجَاءَتْهُمَا فَسَأَلَاهَا نَفْسَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا وَاللهِ حَتَّى تَكَلَّمَا بِهَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ مِنَ الْإِشْرَاكِ قَالَا لَا وَاللهِ لَا نُشْرِكُ بِاللهِ أَبَدًا فَذَهَبَتْ عَنْهُمَا ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ بِصَبِيٍّ تَحْمِلُهُ فَسَأَلَاهَا نَفْسَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا وَاللهِ حَتَّى تَقْتُلَا هَذَا الصَّبِيَّ فَقَالَا لَا وَاللهِ لَا نَقْتُلُهُ أَبَدًا فَذَهَبَتْ ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ بِقَدَحِ خَمْرٍ تَحْمِلُهُ فَسَأَلَاهَا نَفْسَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا وَاللهِ حَتَّى تَشْرَبَا هَذَا الْخَمْرَ فَشَرِبَا فَسَكِرَا فَوَقَعَا عَلَيْهَا وَقَتَلَا الصَّبِيَّ فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَا قَالَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ وَاللهِ مَا تَرَكْتُمَا مِمَّا أَبَيْتُمَا عَلَيَّ إِلَّا قَدْ فَعَلْتُمَاهُ حِينَ سَكِرْتُمَا فَخُيِّرَا عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ بَيْنَ عَذَابِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الْآخِرَةِ فَاخْتَارَا عَذَابَ الدُّنْيَا تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ وَرَوَاهُ مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ كَعْبٍ قَالَ ذَكَرَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَعْمَالَ بَنِي آدَمَ فَذَكَرَ بَعْضَ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ وَهَذَا أَشْبَهُ

البيهقي:١٩٦٧٨أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو وَهُوَ ابْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْخَمْرَ فَإِنَّهَا مِفْتَاحُ كُلِّ شَرٍّ أَتَى رَجُلٌ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِمَّا أَنْ تَحْرِقَ هَذَا الْكِتَابَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَقْتُلَ هَذَا الصَّبِيَّ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةِ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَشْرَبَ هَذَا الْكَأسَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِهَذَا الصَّلِيبِ قَالَ فَلَمْ يَرَ فِيهَا شَيْئًا أَهْوَنَ مِنْ شُرْبِ الْكَأسِ فَلَمَّا شَرِبَهَا سَجَدَ لِلصَّلِيبِ وَقَتَلَ الصَّبِيَّ وَوَقَعَ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ وَحَرَّقَ الْكِتَابَ وَقَدْ رَوَيْنَاهُ فِي كِتَابِ الْأَشْرِبَةِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ

[Machine] I poured wine into a cup and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in while it was boiling. He asked, "What is this?" I said, "My daughter complained, so I prepared this for her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has not made your cure in what He has forbidden to you." This narration is reported by Khalid al-Wasiti, from Ash-Shaybani, from Hassaan. Umm Salamah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me and mentioned its meaning."  

البيهقي:١٩٦٧٩أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا حَسَنُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ الْقَطِيعِيُّ ثنا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ مُخَارِقٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ

نَبَذْتُ نَبِيذًا فِي كُوزٍ فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَغْلِي فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ اشْتَكَتِ ابْنَةٌ لِي فَنُعِتَ لَهَا هَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يَجْعَلْ شِفَاءَكُمْ فِيمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَوَاهُ خَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ عَنِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ حَسَّانَ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ

[Machine] A man among us complained of his stomach, then he found yellow water in it. So, he came to Abdullah and said, "I complained of my stomach and it was described to me as jaundice." Abdullah said, "Indeed, Allah has not put your cure in what He has forbidden for you."  

البيهقي:١٩٦٨٠أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ

اشْتَكَى رَجُلٌ مِنَّا بَطْنَهُ فَوَجَدَ فِيهِ الصُّفْرَ يَعْنِي الْمَاءَ الْأَصْفَرَ فَأَتَى عَبْدَ اللهِ فَقَالَ أَنِّي اشْتَكَيْتُ بَطْنِي فَنُعِتَ لِيَ السُّكْرُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يَجْعَلْ شِفَاءَكُمْ فِيمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ
