[Machine] "I saw people from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ reciting poetry near or around the house. I only heard someone say: The acts of Ibrahim are doubtful."
[Machine] The last gathering we sat in was a session where Zaid ibn Thabit recited poetry to us.
[Machine] We used to sit with the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they would recite poetry to each other and talk about their days during the pre-Islamic period.
[Machine] For me, poetry is indeed words, and indeed, from words, there are truths and falsehoods.
[Machine] The poets amongst the companions of Muhammad ﷺ were Abdullah ibn Rawaha, Hassaan ibn Thabit, and Ka'b ibn Malik.
[Machine] If any of you reads something from the Quran and does not know its interpretation, then seek its interpretation in poetry, for it is the collection of the Arabs. This is the correct statement, which is attributed.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, there is wisdom in poetry, and if something from the Quran becomes difficult for you, seek it in poetry, for it is Arabic in wording at first."
66.73 [Machine] The poet spreads the real story to people about anger and deprivation. Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "His testimony was rejected because of it.
[Machine] Narrated by Malik, the Prophet ﷺ said, "The strong person is not the one who can wrestle others down. Rather, the strong person is the one who can control themselves when they are angry." It is recorded in Sahih Bukhari from the hadith of Malik.
The Prophet ﷺ said: The most prevalent kind of usury is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim's honour. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4876)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, the gravest form of interest is slander of people's honor, and the worst form of slander is false accusation. And the narrator of this hadith is one of the slanderers." This hadith was transmitted by 'Imran ibn Anas al-Makki, who narrated it from Ibn Abi Mulaikah, who narrated it from Aisha, attributed to the Prophet ﷺ with the same wording. Al-Bukhari mentioned this hadith but did not comment on it further.
"The worst of all people lying is a man who trades insults with another man, disparaging the entire tribe, and a man who denies his father and accuses his mother of adultery." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3761)
66.74 [Machine] What is written in the giving of the poets
[Machine] A poet came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Bilal, cut off his tongue from me." So the Prophet ﷺ gave him forty Dirhams and a necklace. The poet said, "By Allah, my tongue has been cut off, by Allah, my tongue has been cut off. This is a severed tongue." It is narrated from Muhammad ibn Muslim, from Umar, and is connected with the mention of Ibn Abbas, but it is not preserved.
[Machine] "He gave a poet, and it was said to him, 'Oh Abu Nujayd, do you give a poet?' He said, 'I redeem my honor from him.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every act of kindness is charity, and whatever a man spends on himself and his family is also considered charity. The expression of a person's goodness is also considered charity, and whatever a man spends from his wealth, for the sake of Allah, will be rewarded by Him except for what is spent on building or committing sins." I asked Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, "How can a person protect his dignity?" He replied, "By giving to poets and those who have eloquent speech." 21133 Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us that Isma'il ibn Muhammad al-Saffar narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Ali, who narrated to us from Sa'id ibn Sulayman, who narrated to us from Miswar ibn As-Salt, who narrated to us from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah. He mentioned the hadith in a similar manner, except that he said, "Muhammad said..." We asked Jabir, "What does it mean to protect one's dignity?" He replied, "It refers to the poet and the person with restraining speech. It is as if he is saying that the person who restrains his tongue is the one who protects himself." Ghayr of Miswar is the narration that matches the hadith of Al-Hilali. This hadith is known by these two narrations, and it is not authentic from the two strong narrators. And Allah knows best.
66.75 [Machine] The poet praises people for things that they do not actually possess until it becomes abundantly clear that it is a blatant lie. Imam Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "His testimony was rejected because of it.
A man was mentioned before the Prophet ﷺ and another man praised him greatly The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah's Mercy be on you ! You have cut the neck of your friend." The Prophet ﷺ repeated this sentence many times and said, "If it is indispensable for anyone of you to praise someone, then he should say, 'I think that he is so-and-so," if he really thinks that he is such. Allah is the One Who will take his accounts (as He knows his reality) and no-one can sanctify anybody before Allah." (Khalid said, "Woe to you," instead of "Allah's Mercy be on you.") (Using translation from Bukhārī 6061)
Woe be to thee, you have broken the neck of your friend, you have broken the neck of your friend-he said this twice. If one of you has to praise his friend at all, he should say: I think (him to be) so and Allah knows it well and I do not know the secret of the heart and Allah knows the destined end, and I cannot testify his purity against Allah but (he appears) to be so and so. (Using translation from Muslim 3000a)
You killed him, or you sliced the back of a person. (Using translation from Muslim 3001)
"A man stood and praised one of the 'Amirs so Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad threw dust in his face and said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to throw dust in the faces of those who praise others.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2393)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6094)
66.76 [Machine] The poet falls in love with a woman who is not permissible for him, but he desires her greatly and becomes infatuated with her. Imam Al-Shafi'i (may God have mercy on him) said: "His testimony was rejected.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Beware of oppression, for surely oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of foul language, for Allah does not love foul language or vulgar speech. And beware of stinginess, for it destroyed those who came before you. They were commanded to be frugal, so they became stingy. They were commanded to be wicked, so they became wicked. Then a man stood up and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which aspect of Islam is the best?" Shu'bah said in his narration: The Prophet ﷺ answered, "That the Muslims are safe from his tongue and his hand." And Al-Mas'udi said: That the Muslims are safe from his tongue and his hand. Then that man stood up again or someone else stood up and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which migration is the best?" He replied, "To abandon what your Lord dislikes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said: Migration is of two types: migration from one residence to another, and migration from one locality to another. As for the latter, it is the best and most deserving of reward. And Al-Mas'udi said: A man called out to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, which martyrs are the best?" He replied, "Those who have their horses crippled and their blood shed."
"The believer does not insult the honor of others, nor curse, nor commit Fahishah, nor is he foul." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1977)
[Machine] Are you reciting poetry in the sacred sanctuary of Allah and in front of the Kaaba of Allah? A man from the Ansar came forward, he was one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said, "O son of Zubair, there is no harm if you do not harm yourself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only forbade poetry when it involves obscenity and when wealth is wasted on it."
66.77 [Machine] Whoever cheers someone but doesn't name anyone, their testimony will not be accepted. Al-Shafi'i said: Because it is possible for him to cheer with his wife and slave girl.
[Machine] Ka'b and Bujair, the sons of Zuhair, came out and mentioned the story of Bujair's conversion to Islam and Ka'b's arrival to the Prophet ﷺ and his conversion, as well as reciting his poem, the beginning of which is "Sa'ad appeared, my heart today is smitten, infatuated by her, unable to be restrained. Sa'ad is not like the morning light, when they rose, as if a dense cloud that is dug into. She reveals the injustices when she smiles, as if a flowing spring in a cup that is filled. He mentioned the poem in its entirety, which consists of forty-eight verses, and in it I was informed that the Messenger of Allah promised me forgiveness. O Messenger of Allah, I have hope in your pardon. Give me respite, O Messenger of Allah, who gave you the unique Qur'an, in which there are admonitions and detailed explanations. Do not pay attention to the words of the ignorant. I have not committed a sin, even if the rumors about me increase. Indeed, the Messenger is a light by which one seeks illumination, and he is a sword wielded from the swords of Allah, unleashed against a group of Quraysh youth who said, when they embraced Islam, "They have gone astray." And Ibrahim ibn Al-Mundhir narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Fulayh narrated to me, from Musa ibn 'Uqbah, who said that the Prophet ﷺ recited the poem of Ka'b ibn Zuhair, "Sa'ad appeared in his mosque in Madinah, and when he reached the words, 'The Messenger is a sword by which one seeks illumination, deadly among the swords of Allah, unleashed against a group of Quraysh youth who said, when they embraced Islam, "They have gone astray,"' the speaker, from among the Quraysh, said, 'When they embraced Islam, they went astray.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pointed to Makkah, indicating that they should shave their heads and come to him to hear from him."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: Messenger of Allah! What is back-biting? He replied: It is saying something about your brother which he would dislike.
