[Machine] He is called Abu Umair, it is said that the Prophet ﷺ used to joke with him. One day, when he came to joke with him, he found him sad. He said, "Why do I see Abu Umair sad?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, his little bird that he used to play with has died." So he called out to him, "O Abu Umair, what did the little bird do?"  

البيهقي:٢١١٦٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ عُبْدُوسُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ثنا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ الرَّازِيُّ ثنا الْأَنْصَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنٌ لِأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو عُمَيْرٍ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رُبَّمَا يُمَازِحُهُ إِذَا جَاءَ فَدَخَلَ يَوْمًا يُمَازِحُهُ فَوَجَدَهُ حَزِينًا فَقَالَ مَا لِي أَرَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا ؟ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَاتَ نُغَيْرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ فَجَعَلَ يُنَادِيهِ يَا أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ؟

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to visit Umm Salim, and she had a son from Abu Talha, who was known as Abu Umair. He used to joke with him, so he entered and saw him sad. He said, "Why do I see Abu Umair sad?" They said, "His pet bird, which he used to play with, has died." He then started saying, "What did the Nughair do?"  

أحمد:١٢٩٥٧ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَلَهَا ابْنٌ مِنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ يُكْنَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ وَكَانَ يُمَازِحُهُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَرَآهُ حَزِينًا فَقَالَ مَالِي أَرَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا؟ فَقَالُوا مَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ

The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) used to come to visit us. I had a younger brother who was called Abu ‘Umair by Kunyah (surname). He had a sparrow with which he played, but it died. So one day the prophet (May peace be upon him) came to see him and saw him grieved. He asked: What is the matter with him? The people replied: His sparrow has died. He then said: Abu ‘Umair! What has happened to the little sparrow? (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4969)   

أحمد:١٤٠٧١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْنَا وَكَانَ لِي أَخٌ صَغِيرٌ وَكَانَ لَهُ نَغْرٌ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَرَآهُ حَزِينًا فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا؟ فَقَالُوا مَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ؟ أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ؟

They said, "O Messenger of Allah, his pet bird, which he used to play with, has died." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Abu 'Umayr, what happened to the little bird?"
