Messenger of Allah ﷺ took (a pledge) from us as he took from the women that we will not associate anything with Allah and we will not steal, and we will not commit adultery, and we will not kill our children, and we will not bring calumny upon one another. And he who amongst you fulfils (this pledge), his reward rests with Allah, and he upon whom amongst you is imposed the prescribed punishment and that is carried out, that is his expiation (for that sin), and he whose (sins) were covered by Allah, his matter rests with Allah. He may punish him if He likes or may forgive him if He so likes. (Using translation from Muslim 1709c)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "There are two things among people that are regarded as disbelief: wailing over the dead and slander about lineage."
[Machine] Osama bin Shareek heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "I have witnessed the Bedouins asking the Prophet ﷺ , 'Do we have any difficulty in doing this?' He ﷺ replied, 'O slaves of Allah! Allah has made things easy for you, and there is no difficulty except in that you take a loan from your brother and intend to pay him back, but find difficulty in doing so.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the best thing that a servant can be given?' He ﷺ replied, 'Good character.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You will find on the Day of Judgment the worst of people to be the two-faced ones, who come to these [people] with the words of those [people] and to those [people] with the words of these [people]."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not appropriate for a person with two faces to be trustworthy."
The Prophet ﷺ said: He who is two-faced in this world will have two tongues of fire on the Day of Resurrection. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4873)
[Machine] Shall I not inform you what backbiting is? It is the conveying of malicious talk among people. And indeed, Muhammad ﷺ said, "A man may speak the truth and it is recorded with Allah as a truthful statement, and a man may lie and it is recorded with Allah as a lie."
from the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "Do you know what ʿi’ḍah (calumny, slander, or causing separation) is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet said, "It is spreading news between people to ruin their relationships."
[Machine] We were sitting with Hudhayfah when a man passed by, and they said, "This man takes the conversation to Uthman." Hudhayfah then said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'A backbiter will not enter Paradise.'"
The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man tells something and then departs, it is a trust. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4868)
The Prophet ﷺ said: Meetings are confidential except three: those for the purpose of shedding blood unlawfully, or committing fornication, or acquiring property unjustly. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4869)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: Messenger of Allah! What is back-biting? He replied: It is saying something about your brother which he would dislike. He was asked again: Tell me how the matter stands if what I say about my brother is true? He replied: If what you say of him is true, you have slandered him, and if what you say of him is not true, you have reviled him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4874)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "O people who have believed by their tongue, and Īmān (faith) has not ˹yet˺ entered their hearts, do not back-bite ˹your fellow˺ Muslims, and do not look for their faults. For if anyone hunts for the fault of his brother Muslim, Allah will ˹expose˺ his fault, and if Allah ˹exposes˺ the fault of anyone, He disgraces him even if he were to be in his house."
"I do not like to talk about anyone, even if I were to get this or that." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2503)
