And to Allah belongs the deposing matter of ascent and descent from power. And it is Allah who has knowledge of all things. So, there is no blame upon you, [O Muhammad], whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thirty people stood up. Abu Nu'aym said, "Many people stood up and witnessed when he took him by the hand." He said to the people, "Do you know that I have more authority over the believers than themselves?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Whoever I have authority over, this Ali is also his authority. O Allah, be a friend to those who befriend him and an enemy to those who oppose him." Then I left feeling uneasy, and I met Zaid ibn Arqam and said to him, "I heard Ali say such and such." He said, "Do you deny it? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say the same thing to him."

He used to supplicate:" O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from incapacity, from sloth, from cowardice, from miserliness, decrepitude and from torment of the grave. O Allah, grant to my soul the sense of righteousness and purify it, for Thou art the Best Purifier thereof. Thou art the Protecting Friend thereof, and Guardian thereof. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the knowledge which does not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded." He asked two men, "Do you both bear witness to this child being his (result)?" They did not bear witness. He then asked two other men, "Do you both bear witness to this child being his (result)?" They did not bear witness. He continued to ask pairs of men until he exhausted asking twos about ones (child). They did not bear witness. This matter was brought to the Prophet ﷺ , who laughed until his canine teeth were visible.

“I was with my uncle when I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul saying to his companions: Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they desert from him. If we return to Al-Madinah then the more honorable will expel the meaner among them. So I mentioned that to my uncle, then my uncle mentioned it to the Prophet. So the Prophet called for me to narrated it to him. Then the Messenger of Allah sent message to Abdullah bin Ubayy and his companions but they took an oath that they had not said it. So he did not believe me and he trusted what they said. I was struck with distress the likes of which I had not suffered before. So I just at in my house, and my uncle said to me: ‘You only wanted the Messenger of Allah to not believe you and hate you.’ Then Allah [Most High] revealed: ‘When the hypocrites come to you’ So the Messenger of Allah sent for me, and he recites it and said: ‘Indeed Allah has verified the truth of what you said.’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3312)

[Machine] "We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and the people faced hardship. Abdullah ibn Ubayy said to his companions, 'Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse from him.' He also said, 'If we return to Medina, the honorable will expel the lowly from it.' So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him about this. He sent for Abdullah ibn Ubayy and questioned him, and Abdullah ibn Ubayy did his best to swear that he did not say such things. They accused Zaid, the Messenger of Allah, of lying. This troubled me to the extent that Allah revealed in confirmation of my statement, 'When the hypocrites come to you...' (Surah Al-Munafiqoon, verse 1). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then called them and sought forgiveness for them. They hung their heads low, and Allah, the Exalted, says, 'As though they were pieces of timber propped up' (Surah Al-Munafiqoon, verse 4). He said, 'They were the most handsome of men.'"
