ahmad:19304 – Ḥusayn > Shuʿbah > ʿAmr b. Murrah > Ibn Abū Laylá > Zayd b. Arqam

We said to Zaid bin Arqam: 'Tell us a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'We have grown old and have forgotten, and (narrating) Ahadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is difficult (not a simple matter).'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 25)  

أحمد:١٩٣٠٤ – حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا جِئْنَاهُ قُلْنَا

حَدِّثْنَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّا قَدْ كَبُرْنَا وَنَسِينَا وَالْحَدِيثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ شَدِيدٌ
