[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say the following when his companions gathered around him and he wanted to get up: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You. I have done wrong and have oppressed myself, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, are these words that you have newly introduced?" He replied, "Yes, Gabriel ﷺ came to me and said, 'O Muhammad, these are the expiations for the gathering."

[Machine] We used to walk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we passed by two graves. He stood up and we stood up with him, and his face changed color until his shirt was moistened. We said, "What is the matter, O Prophet of Allah?" He said, "Do you not hear what I hear?" We said, "What is that, O Prophet of Allah?" He said, "These two men are being punished in their graves with a severe punishment for a minor sin." We said, "What did they do, O Prophet of Allah?" He said, "One of them used not to protect himself from urine and the other used to harm people with his tongue and spread gossip among them." Then he called for two fresh palm tree leaves and placed one on each grave. We said, "Will that benefit them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, it will lighten their punishment as long as they remain moist."

Messenger of Allah said: "Shall I tell you that for which Allah will wipe out your sins, and raise your ranks?" They said, "Of course Messenger of Allah!" He said: "Performing Wudu well in difficulty, and taking many steps to the Masajid, and waiting for Salat after Salat, That is the Ribat." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 51)

[Machine] A man from the Ansar came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, there are certain things I wish to ask you about." The Prophet replied, "Sit." Then, a man from Thaqif came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, there are certain things I wish to ask you about." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Ansari has preceded you." The Ansari man said, "He is a stranger and a stranger has rights. Begin with him." So, the Prophet turned towards the man and said, "If you want, I can answer the questions you came to ask, or if you prefer, you can ask me and I will inform you." The man replied, "O Messenger of Allah, rather answer me regarding the questions I came to ask." The Prophet ﷺ said, "You came to ask me about the acts of bowing, prostrating, praying, and fasting." The man said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I have not made any mistakes regarding these acts." The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you bow, place your hands on your knees, then separate your fingers. Remain in that position until each limb takes its appropriate posture. And when you prostrate, place your forehead firmly on the ground and do not peck like a rooster. Perform the prayer at the beginning and end of the day." The man asked, "O Prophet of Allah, what if I perform the prayer in between?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Then you will be considered as one who prays. And fast for thirteen, fourteen, or fifteen days in every month." The Thaqifi man then stood up and approached the Ansari man, saying, "If you want, I can inform you about what you came to ask, or if you prefer, you can ask me and I will inform you." The Ansari man said, "No, O Prophet of Allah, inform me about what I came to ask you." The Prophet said, "You came to inquire about the rights of the pilgrim when he leaves his home, stands at Arafat, throws stones, shaves or trims his hair, and completes the final circumambulation of the Kaaba." The man replied, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I have not made any mistakes regarding these matters." The Prophet ﷺ said, "When he leaves his home, every step taken by his mount will be recorded as a good deed or a sin. And when he stands at Arafat, Allah, the Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Look at my servants, how unkempt and dusty they are. Bear witness that I have forgiven them their sins, even if they were as numerous as the drops of rain and sand on the ground.' And when he throws the stones, no one knows its reward until the Day of Judgment. And when he shaves his head, for every hair that falls, a light will be created on the Day of Judgment. And when he completes the final circumambulation of the Kaaba, he will be free of his sins, just as he was on the day he was born."

[Machine] Two men came to the Prophet ﷺ , one of them was from the Ansar and the other was from Thaqif. The Ansari man arrived before the Thaqifi man, so the Prophet ﷺ said to the Thaqifi man, "O brother of Thaqif, the Ansari man preceded you." The Ansari man said, "I will always precede you, O Messenger of Allah." So the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "O brother of Thaqif, ask about your need, and if you wish, I will inform you about what you came to ask." The man said, "That is more astonishing to me, that you ask me about your prayer, your bowing, your prostration, your fasting, and you say, 'What do I have in it?'." He said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, pray the first and last part of the night and sleep the middle part." He said, "If you pray the middle part, then you are doing well." He said, "When you stand up for prayer, place your hands on your knees and spread your fingers, then raise your head until every joint returns to its place. And when you prostrate, place your forehead on the ground and do not peck like a crow. And fast on the white nights, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen (of the lunar month)." Then he turned to the Ansari man and said, "Ask about your need, and if you wish, I will inform you." He said, "That is more astonishing to me. You came to ask me about leaving your house to come to the Kaaba, and you say, 'What do I have in it?' And you came to ask about standing at Arafat, and you say, 'What do I have in it?' And you came to ask about throwing the pebbles, and you say, 'What do I have in it?' And you came to ask about circumambulating the Kaaba, and you say, 'What do I have in it?' And you came to ask about shaving your head, and you say, 'What do I have in it?'." He said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, as for your leaving your house to come to the Kaaba, for every step you take, Allah will write for you a good deed and erase from you a bad deed. And as for your standing at Arafat, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and boasts to the angels about them, saying, 'These are My servants who have come to Me, disheveled and covered in dust, from every deep valley, hoping for My mercy and fearing My punishment, and they have not seen Me. So how would it be if they had seen Me? And if your sins were equivalent to the grains of sand on the earth or the days of the world, or the drops of rain from the sky, Allah will wash them away from you. And as for your throwing of the pebbles, it will remain for you. And as for shaving your head, for every hair you cut, you will receive a reward. So when you walk around the Kaaba, you will come out from your sins as on the day your mother gave birth to you."

[Machine] His grandfather, Aba Lubabah, when Allah forgave him for his delay in accompanying the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and for his past actions, in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ advised him, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, I will abandon my house in which I have committed sins, and I will come to you and live with you, and I will give all of my wealth as charity to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "You will be rewarded for a third of that."

[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and in what happened before that in matters in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a role, Hussein claimed that Abu Lubabah said when Allah forgave him, "O Messenger of Allah, I will abandon the home of my people where I committed sin and I will migrate and live with you, and I will donate one-third of my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Hussein claimed that one-third will be compensated for you." This was narrated by Muhammad ibn Abi Hafsah from Az-Zuhri from Hussein ibn As-Saib ibn Abi Lubabah from his father who said, "When Allah forgave Abu Lubabah, he said, 'I came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'One-third will be compensated for you.'"

[Machine] We traveled from Makkah to Medina with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. My camel became exhausted, so I left it behind and went ahead to lead it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delayed because of a need, but he caught up with me and said, "Why did you separate?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, only because my camel is unable to proceed, and I intended to join the people." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of its reins, hit it, and scolded it, then he said, "Mount." I said, "I have indeed seen you after that, and I was, indeed, holding it back from the people." Then we descended at a place near Medina, and I wanted to hurry to my family, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Do not take a shortcut to your family." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have just concluded a marriage contract." He said, "Have you not married a virgin?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, but she is too young for me to play with her, and she is too young to play with me." He remained silent and did not say anything good or bad. Then he said, "By the way, your camel, this camel of yours." I said, "No, it belongs to you, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "No, it belongs to both of us." I said, "It is yours, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "No, it belongs to both of us." I said, "Yes, it is for you, in return for the two gold rings." He said, "I have taken it, so continue on it to Medina." When I arrived in Medina, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Bilal, "Give him two gold rings and increase it." So he gave me two gold rings and added one more carat. I said, "Do not leave me without the extra from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He replied, "It is in my bag, and the people of Sham took it on the day of Uhud."

[Machine] I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was riding a lame camel at the rear of the group. He asked me, "What is the matter with your camel?" I said, "It is either lame or stubborn, O Messenger of Allah." He then held its reins, hit it, and said, "Ride it. I have seen it since its beginning, and I have been restraining it." When we approached, I wanted to hurry ahead to meet my family, so he said, "Do not reach your family hastily." He then asked, "Are you married?" I said, "Yes." He asked, "Is she a virgin or previously married?" I said, "Previously married." He said, "Why don't you marry a virgin, so that both of you can amuse each other?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abdullah (my son) has abandoned his slave girls, and I disliked bringing women of their kind to be like them, so I wanted to marry a woman who has understanding." He did not say anything to me, neither scolding nor approving. Then he said to me about my camel, "It is yours, O Messenger of Allah." I said, "It is yours, O Messenger of Allah." When he insisted, I said, "If anyone owes a debt to someone, it belongs to the creditor." He said, "Yes, send it to your family and inform Bilal to give you one dinar and increase it." So, he gave me a gold dinar and increased it by a Qirat (a unit of weight). I said, "This Qirat will never leave me, as it was an increase by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." I put it in a bag and it stayed with me until it was taken by the people of Sham (Greater Syria) on the day of Harrah. They mentioned it in Sahih Al-Bukhari, citing it from the hadith of Al-A'mash with a gesture, and it is also mentioned in Sahih Muslim through narration.

They said to Al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him), "We only find the defect in terms of age, ear, and tail." He said, "Dislike whatever you wish, but do not make it forbidden for people."

[Machine] Omar ibn al-Khattab used to accompany the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on some of his journeys. Omar asked him about something, but he did not respond. Then he asked him again, but he did not respond. He asked him a third time and he did not respond. So Omar said, "May your mother lose you, Omar! I have made three attempts to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he did not respond to me." Omar then moved his camel forward until he was in front of the people, fearing that a revelation had come down in the Quran. He did not get far when he heard a loud voice calling out his name. So he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "A Surah has been revealed to me tonight that is more beloved to me than what the sun rises upon." Then he recited the verse, "Verily, We have granted you a clear victory, that Allah may forgive you your sins of the past and the future."

[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ , and Allah revealed to him. And whenever revelation came to him, his eyes remained open and his hearing and heart would be focused on what Allah was conveying. We used to notice this about him. So he said to the scribe, "Write: 'Not equal are those believers who sit [at home] and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah'." Then a blind man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is our fault?" So Allah revealed to him [the Prophet], and we told the blind man that it was a revelation for the Prophet. And the blind man was afraid that something from the revelation might be revealed upon him, so he remained standing and said, "I seek refuge in the anger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." [Machine] We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when revelation came down upon him. His eyesight would become open and his hearing and sight would be fully focused on what came from Allah. When he finished, he said to a scribe, "Write: 'The ones who remain at home from amongst the believers and those who strive in the cause of Allah are not equal.'" The blind man stood up and asked, "What is our fault?" So revelation was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ and we said to the blind man, "Verily, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is receiving revelation." The blind man remained standing and said, "I repent to Allah." When he finished, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write: 'Except those who are disabled.'"

After the Fajr prayer, he faced the people and made the testimony of faith, then he said, "It was not hidden from me your presence, but I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you, and you would be unable to fulfill it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ encouraged them to stand in prayer during the month of Ramadan without imposing it on them. He said, "Whoever stands in prayer during Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out, and this practice continued during the caliphates of Abu Bakr, Umar, and thereafter.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque. The people followed him and prayed as well. In the morning, people were talking about it, so more people came the next night and the Messenger of Allah went out and prayed, and the people prayed with him. This continued for the third night, and the people talked about it so much that the mosque became crowded and unable to accommodate everyone. The Messenger of Allah did not come out to them anymore, so the people became upset and said that they missed the prayer. He then came out for the Fajr prayer and after finishing it, he faced the people and testified to the correctness of their intentions. He said, "What prevented me from coming out to you was my fear that the night prayer would become obligatory for you, and you would have difficulty fulfilling it." He always encouraged them to observe the nights of Ramadan without explicitly commanding them to do so. He used to say, "Whoever stands in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree) out of faith and seeking reward, Allah will forgive his previous sins." The Messenger of Allah passed away while this tradition was still practiced during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the early years of Umar's caliphate. Umar eventually gathered the people behind a single reciter during the month of Ramadan, and this was the first time people congregated for one reciter during Ramadan.

More people gathered the next night and the Messenger of Allah went out to pray and they prayed with him. The number of people increased on the third night and the Messenger of Allah went out to pray and they prayed with him. However, on the fourth night, the mosque was unable to accommodate its people and the Messenger of Allah did not come out to them. Some of the men said that they should pray and the Messenger of Allah did not come out to them until he came out for the morning prayer. After completing the Fajr prayer, he turned to the people and said, "Indeed, your matter did not escape me tonight, but I feared that it would be imposed upon you and you would be unable to fulfill it." The Messenger of Allah used to encourage them to observe the night prayers in Ramadan without explicitly commanding them to do so. He used to say, "Whoever observes Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven for him." The Messenger of Allah passed away and this continued to be the practice during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the beginning of the caliphate of Umar ibn Al-Khattab. Uruwah reported, and Abdur Rahman ibn Abdir Rahim, who used to work with Umar, reported that Umar went out one night during Ramadan and Abdur Rahman went out with him. They walked around the mosque and the people were praying individually, and some were praying in groups. Umar said, "By Allah, I think if we gather them behind one reciter, it would be better than what they are doing." Umar decided to gather them behind one reciter and commanded Ubayy ibn Ka'b to lead them in prayer during Ramadan. Umar went out with the people and they prayed behind the reciter, and Abdur Rahman ibn Abdir Rahim was with him. Umar said, "What an excellent innovation this is, and the one who neglects it is better than the one who stays up till the end of the night." The people used to pray in the early part of the night.

[Machine] I debated with the Qadariyyah and they embarrassed me, so I went to Imran ibn al-Husayn al-Khuzai, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and said, "O Abu Nujayd, I debated with the Qadariyyah and they embarrassed me. Do you have any hadith to narrate to me that may benefit me?" He replied, "If I were to narrate a hadith to you, it would be as if I covered your ears and you didn't hear it." So I said, "I only came for that." He said, "If Allah were to punish the people of the heavens and the earth, He would punish them and He is not unjust. And if He were to admit them into His mercy, His mercy would be wider for them than their sins. Then, Allah says, 'He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills.' So whoever is punished, it is the truth, and whoever is shown mercy, it is the truth." Ibn Mas'ud narrated a similar hadith from the Prophet ﷺ , and Abdullah bin Mas'ud recited it with abundant blessings and praises.

[Machine] I have debated with the people of destiny until they embarrassed me. Do you have any knowledge to inform me? They said, "If Allah punished the people of the heavens and the earth, He would punish them without being unjust. And if He admitted them into His mercy, His mercy would be greater than their sins. But as He has decreed, He punishes whom He wills and has mercy on whom He wills. So whoever is punished, it is true, and whoever is shown mercy, it is true. And even if you were to spend the equivalent of Uhud mountain in the cause of Allah, it would not be accepted from you until you believe in the entirety of destiny, its good and bad." Then 'Imran said to Abu al-Aswad when he narrated the Hadith, "I heard that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Abdullah and Ubayy bin Ka'b heard it with me." So Abu al-Aswad asked them to narrate it to him from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that the Children of Israel appointed a caliph over them, and he began to pray to the moon above the House of the Holy Temple and mentioned things he had done. Then, a rope was lowered for him, and he held onto it, and it became attached to the mosque. He went until he reached a people on the shore of the sea, and he found them making cheese. He asked them how they obtained this cheese, and they informed him. So, he took the cheese with him and ate from the work of his own hands. When the time for prayer came, he purified himself and prayed. Then, the worker mentioned that among them was a man who used to do certain things and sent for him, but he refused to come. However, he eventually came riding on his mount, and when the worker saw him, he ran away. The man followed him, and when he caught up to him, he asked him to wait for him so he could speak a word to him. The man stood and spoke to him and informed him that he was a king who had fled out of fear of his sins. He said, "I am following you in this matter, so let us both worship Allah." They both prayed to Allah to cause both of them to die. They both died, and Abdullah said, "If I were in Rumailah in Egypt, I would have shown you their graves as described by the Prophet ﷺ."
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "Killing in the cause of Allah expiates all sins, or he said everything except for treachery. Treachery is in prayer, fasting, and speaking. The greatest of that is entrusting (something to someone). Shurayk narrated to me from Ayyash Al-Amiri, from Zadhan, from Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner."
