9. Book of Ṣalāh (1/30)
when the call to prayer is made; the devil turns his back and breaks wind so as not to hear the call being made; but when the call is finished, he turns round. When the second call to prayer (iqamah) is made, he turns his back, and when the second call is finished, he turns round and suggest notions in the mind of the man (at prayer) to distract his attention, saying: remember such and such, referring to something the man did not have n mind, with the result that he does not know how much he has prayed. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 516)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When the Iqamah for prayer is said, do not stand up until you see that I have come out.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 687)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best among you are those who are gentle and kind in prayer."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There are three types of people to whom Allah does not accept their prayers: an imam who is hated by his congregation, a woman who goes to bed while her husband is angry with her, and two brothers who are in conflict with each other."
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which prayer is the best?" He said, "The one with longer prostration."
[Machine] He said, "I have never prayed with anyone performing a shorter or more complete prayer than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
When one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief, for among them are the weak, the sick, and the aged. But when one of you prays by himself, he may pray as long as he likes. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 794)
A man came panting to join the row of worshippers, and said: Allah is most great; praise be to Allah, much praise, good and blessed. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he asked: Which of you is the one who spoke the words? He said nothing wrong. Then the man said: I (said), Messenger of Allah ﷺ; I came and had difficulty in breathing, so I said them. He said: I saw twelve angels racing against one another to be the one to take them to Allah. The narrator Humaid added: When any of you comes for praying, he should walk as usual (i.e. he should not hasten and run quickly); then he should pray as much as he finds it (along with the imam), and should offer the part of the prayer himself (when the prayer is finished) which the Imam had offered before him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 763)
The distance between the Musalla of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the wall was just sufficient for a sheep to pass through . (Using translation from Bukhārī 496)
“Why do you not pray over there?” And I pointed to some corner of the mosque. He said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking out this place.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1430)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two times when the prayer of a person is not rejected: when the prayer is being called and during the line in the path of Allah."
[Machine] I said to Ibn Abbas, "I am amazed by a sheikh who performed the Dhuhr prayer with us and made twenty-two takbeerat (saying 'Allahu Akbar')?" He said, "That is the Sunnah of Abu Al-Qasim (Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him)."
That Abu Hurairah used to lead them in prayer, and he said the takbir when he went down and came up. When he had finished he said: 'By Allah (SWT), I am the one among you whose prayer most closely resembles that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1155)
Marwan appointed Abu Hurairah as governor of Al-Madinah. When he stood to offer an obligatory prayer, he would say the takbir, then he said the takbir when he bowed, and when he raised his head from bowing he said: "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Allah hears those who praise Him; our Lord, and to You be the praise)." Then he would say the takbir when he went down in prostration, then he said the takbir when he stood up after two rak'ahs, after saying the Tashahhud, and he did that until he had finished the prayer. When he had finished his prayer and said the Salam, he turned to the people in the masjid and said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I am the one among you whose prayer most closely resembles that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1023)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began prayer with the takbir (Allah is most great) and with reciting “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe”. And when he bowed, he neither raised up nor lowered down his head, but kept it between the two (conditions). And when he raised his head after bowing, he did not prostrate himself until he stood up straight; and when he raised his head after prostration, he did not prostrate (the second time) until he sat down properly; and he recited al-tahiyyat after every pair of rak’ahs; and when he sat, he spread out his left foot and raised his right. He forbade to sit like the sitting of the devil, and to spread out to hands (on the ground in prostration) like animals. He used to finish prayer with uttering the salutation. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 783)
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spread his fingers during prayer."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, we, the prophets, were commanded to delay our pre-dawn meal (suhoor), hasten our breaking of the fast (iftar), and hold onto our right hand during our prayers."
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: "Wajahtu wajhi lilladhi fataras-samawatiwal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin. Allahumma! O Allah, You are the Sovereign and there is none worthy of worship but You. I am Your slave, I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin. Forgive me all my sins for no one forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You. I am at Your service, all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I rely on You and turn to You, blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 897)

Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You. I am at Your service, all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I rely on You and turn to You, blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept silence between the takbir and the recitation of Qur’an. So I asked him, for whom I would give my father and mother as ransom: What do you say during you period of silence between the takbir and the recitation? He replied (that he said): O Allah, purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from filth. O Allah, wash away my sings with snow, water and hail. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 781)

[Machine] "There were three actions that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do but people abandoned them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he stood up for prayer, used to raise his hands up to his shoulders, and he used to stand for a little while before reciting the Qur'an, supplicating to Allah for His mercy. And he used to say 'Allahu Akbar' (God is the Greatest) in every bowing and prostration during the prayer."

[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to enter the prayer, he would say: 'Allah is the greatest, great. And all praise is due to Allah, abundantly, three times. Glory be to Allah in the morning and in the evening, three times. I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan, from his puffing, his whispering, and his blowing'."
ذِكْرُ الْأَخْبَارِ الْمُفَسِّرَةِ لِقَوْلِهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا: {فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ}
"Abu Hurairah said: "In should be recitation in every prayer. What the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made us hear (by reciting out loud) we make you hear, and what he hid from us (by reciting silently) we hide from you.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 969)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no Salah for one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 910)

If anyone observes a prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Qur’an, it is incomplete, it is incomplete, it is incomplete, and deficient. (The narrator said) I said: Abu Hurairah, sometime I pray behind the imam(then what should I do)? Pressing my hand he replied: O Persian, recite it inwardly, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying that Allah, Most High, has said: I have Me and the Half for my servant and My servant will receive what he asks. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Recite. When the servant says: “praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe,” Allah, Most High says: “My servant has praised me.” When the servant says: “ The Compassionate, the merciful, “Allah Most High says: “My servant has lauded me.” When the servant says: “Owner of the Day of Judgment,” Allah, Most High, says: “My servant has glorified Me” When the servant says: “ Thee do we worship and of thee we ask help. “ (Allah says) “This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.” When the servant says: “ Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those whom thou hast favoured, not ( the path) of those who earn thine anger nor of those who go astray,”(Allah says: ) “This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.” (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 821)
"Messenger of Allah prayed the Subh prayer, and he had difficulty with the recitation. When turned (after finishing) he said: 'I think that you are reciting behind your Imam?'" He said: "We said: 'Yes, Messenger of Allah, by Allah!' He said: 'Do not do that, except for Umm Al-Kitab, for there is no Salat for one who does not recite it.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 311)

[Machine] On the authority of Rifaa'ah ibn Raafi' al-Zurqi, who was one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , he said: "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque and prayed near him. Then he went to greet him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed.' He returned and prayed something similar to what he had previously prayed, then went back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said to him, 'Repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed.' The man asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, how can I do that?' He replied, 'When you face the qiblah (direction of prayer), say the takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) and then recite Surah al-Fatiha (the opening chapter of the Quran) and then recite whatever you wish. When you go into the bowing position, place your hands on your knees and straighten your back. When you raise your head, stand upright until your joints return to their places. When you prostrate, place your forehead and nose on the ground, and when you raise your head, sit on your left thigh. Do this in every unit of prayer.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A prayer is not valid if Surah Al-Fatiha is not recited in it." I said, "Even if I am behind the imam?" He ﷺ then held my hand and said, "Recite it to yourself."
we were commanded to recite Fatihat al-kitab and whatever was convenient (from the Qur’an during the prayer). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 818)
9.11 [Machine] Description of Prayer
Go out and announce in medina that prayer is not valid but the recitation of the Qur’an even though it might be fatihat al-kitab and something more. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 819)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Fajr with us, and the recitation became difficult for him. After finishing the prayer, he asked, "Did you recite behind me?" We replied, "Yes." He said, "Do not do so, except with the mother of the Book (meaning Al-Fatiha) because there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it."
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no Salah for one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab or more.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 911)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A prayer is not valid if Al-Fatiha is not recited in it." I said, "What if I am following the imam?" He took my hand and said, "Recite it within yourself."
from his father, from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs a Salat in which he does not recite Umm Al-Qur'an in it, then it is aborted, it is aborted, not complete." He Said: "I said: 'O Abu Hurairah! Sometimes I am behind an Imam.' He said: 'O Ibn Al-Farisi! Then recite it to yourself. For indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Allah, the Most High said: "I have divided the Salat between Myself and My slaves into two halves. Half of it is for Me, and half of it for My slave, and My slave shall have what he asks for. My slave stands and says: All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of All that exists." So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High says: "My slave has expressed his gratitude to Me." He says: "The Merciful, the Beneficent. So he says: "My slave has praised Me." He says: Owner of the Day of Reckoning. He says: "My slave has glorified Me. And this is for Me, and between Me and My slave is: It is You alone whom we worship and it is You alone from whom we seek aid" until the end of the Surah "This is for My slave and My slave shall have what he asks for." So he says: Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed your favor, not those with whom is Your wrath, now those who are astray."' Concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime: "And offer your salah (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice"- It was revealed when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was still (preaching) in secret in Makkah. When he led his companions in prayer, he would raise his voice" -(One of the narrators) Ibn Mani' said: He would recite the Quran out loud"- "And when the idolators heard his voice they would insult the Quran, and the One Who revealed it, and the one who brought it. So Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said to His Prophet ﷺ: And offer your salah (prayer) neither aloud that is, such that the idolators can hear your recitation and insult the Quran; nor in a low voice, so that your companions cannot hear; but follow a way between." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1011)
فِي قَوْلِهِ {وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا} قَالَ «نَزَلَتْ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُخْتَفِي بِمَكَّةَ فَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِذَا سَمِعُوا سَبُّوا الْقُرْآنَ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهُ وَمَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ» فَقَالَ اللَّهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ {وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ} «أَيْ بِقِرَاءَتِكَ فَيَسْمَعَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ فَيَسُبُّوا الْقُرْآنَ» {وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا} عَنْ أَصْحَابِكَ فَلَا تُسْمِعُهُمْ {وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلًا}

[Machine] In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Then he recited from the mother of the book until he reached the verse "not of those who have evoked Your anger or of those who are astray." He said, "Ameen" and the people said, "Ameen." When he bowed, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he raised his head, he said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him." Then he said, "Allah is the Greatest" and prostrated. When he raised his head from prostration, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he prostrated again, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he raised his head from prostration, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." Then he faced the audience while standing and saying the Takbeer. When he stood up from the second Rak'ah, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he finished his prayer, he said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I indeed pray in a similar manner to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
