9. Book of Ṣalāh (1/30)
[Machine] Regarding the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she said, "Don't you read the Quran?" I said, "Yes, I do." She said, "The character of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was the Quran." He said, "So, I decided to stand up and not ask her about anything."
[Machine] Regarding the Prophet's ﷺ night prayer, she (Aisha) asked him, "Don't you read this Surah: 'O you wrapped in garments'?". He replied, "Yes". She said, "Verily, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, made the night prayer obligatory in the beginning of this Surah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions would stand in prayer (at night) for so long that their feet would become swollen. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, then withheld the last portion for twelve months in the heavens, before revealing it in the Quran. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed the lighter (ruling) at the end of this Surah. So the night prayer became voluntary after the obligatory prayer."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to love to consistently perform the prayer when he prayed it. And when he was hindered from standing in night prayer due to sleep, illness, or pain, he would pray twelve raka'at during the day."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: When one you sleeps, the devil ties three knots at the back of his neck, sealing every knot with, "You have a long night, so sleep." So if one awakes and mentions Allah, a knot will be loosened; if he performs ablution another knot will be loosened; and if he prays, the third knot will be loosened; and in the morning he will be active and in good spirits; otherwise he will be in bad spirits and sluggish. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1306)
[Machine] "To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There is no male or female except that there is a knot tied at the back of their head when they sleep. So when they wake up and remember Allah, the knot is untied. And when they stand up and perform ablution and pray, the knots are completely untied.'"
[Machine] He heard Uqbah ibn Amir saying, "I will not say today regarding the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what I did not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever intentionally lies about me, let him prepare a place for himself in Hell.'"
[Machine] "I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'A man from my Ummah will rise at night and seek purification. He will have beads upon him, and when he washes his hands, the beads will be released. And when he washes his face, the beads will be released. And when he wipes his head, the beads will be released. And when he washes his feet, the beads will be released.' Allah, the Most High, will say, 'Look at My servant who seeks purification. He calls upon Me and I respond to his prayers. He seeks from Me and I give to him.'"
9.25 [Machine] A Chapter on Night Prayer
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "There is no Muslim, male or female, who sleeps without having a joint tied with a knot on them. When they wake up and mention Allah, the knot is loosened. And if they perform ablution and stand up for prayer, they wake up active and have obtained good, and all their knots are loosened. But if they wake up without mentioning Allah, they wake up with the knot still on them, and they wake up heavy and lazy, without obtaining any good."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Our Lord marvels at two men: a man who leaves his bed and his blankets, desiring to pray, and Allah says: 'Look at my servant who has left his comfortable bed and blankets out of his love for Me and his family, desiring what I have and seeking My mercy.' And a man who fights in the cause of Allah, and the people are defeated, and he knows the consequences of defeat and what awaits him if he retreats, yet he returns until his blood is spilled. Then Allah says to His angels: 'Look at My servant who returns with hope in what I have and seeking My mercy, even until his blood is spilled.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Our Lord wonders at two men: a man who leaves his bed and his blanket out of love for his prayer, and Allah, the Exalted, says to His angels, 'Look at My servant who left his bed and his blanket out of love for his prayer, seeking what is with Me and fearing what is with Me.' And a man who fights in the cause of Allah and his companions are defeated, yet he knows what awaits him in defeat and what awaits him in retreat, so he returns until his blood is spilled. And Allah says to His angels, 'Look at My servant who returns with hope in what is with Me and with fear from what is with Me until his blood is spilled.'"
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, whenever I see you, my soul becomes content and my eyes become tranquil. Inform me about everything." He said, "Everything was created from water." So, I said, "Tell me something that if I do, I will enter Paradise." He said, "Feed the hungry, spread peace, maintain family ties, and pray during the night while people are asleep. You will enter Paradise in peace."
[Machine] It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so prays the whole night, but when morning comes, he steals." He said, "What you say will prevent him from doing that."
[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "During the night, there is an hour in which no Muslim person asks Allah for good in this life and the hereafter except that Allah gives it to him."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a man who slept until morning and he said: "The Shaytan urinated in his ear or ears." Sufyan said, "This, according to us, is similar to neglecting the obligatory prayer."
[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers. He said, "Prayer during the middle of the night." He then asked, "Which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?" He said, "The month of Allah which they call Muharram."
[Machine] I asked Abu Dharr, "Which is the better time for performing the night prayer?" Abu Dharr said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the same question, and he replied, 'The best time is the middle of the night or the latter part of the night.' " Al-Awfi was doubtful.
“Whoever among you fears that he will not wake up at the end of the night, let him pray Witr at the beginning of the night, then go to sleep. Whoever hopes that he will wake up at the end of the night, let him pray Witr at the end of the night, for recitation (of the Qur’an) at the end of the night is attended (by the angels), and that is better.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1187)
O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in the hand of Allah and if He wills to wake us up, He will wake us up. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left when I said that to him and I heard him, as he was leaving, strike his hand against his thigh and say: ʿBut, man is ever more quarrelsome than anythingʿ (al-Kahf:18:54). (Using translation from Aḥmad 575)
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَرَقَهُ فَقَالَ «أَلَا تُصَلُّونَ؟ » فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا بِيَدِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ قُلْتُ ذَلِكَ وَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ إِلَيَّ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَضْرِبُ بِيَدِهِ وَيَقُولُ {وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا}
The Prophet ﷺ said: May Allah have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, and awakens his wife; if she refuses, he should sprinkle water on her face. May Allah have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays, and awakens her husband; if he refuses, she would sprinkle water on his face. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1308)
The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man himself wakes at night and wakens his wife and they pray two rak'ahs together, they are recorded among the men and women who make much mention of Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1451)
‘When a man wakes up at night and wakes his wife, and they pray two Rak’ah, they will be recorded among the men and women who remember Allah much.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1335)

When it was close to dawn, if he had a need for his family, he would go to them, otherwise he would sleep. When he heard the call to prayer, he would quickly get up and what she (referring to the narrator) did not say was that he would perform a ritual bath if he was in a state of major ritual impurity, otherwise he would perform ablution. Then he would go out to pray."
[Machine] I used to spend the night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I would bring him water for ablution and fulfill his needs. He would stand during the night saying, "Glory be to my Lord and with His praise, Glory be to my Lord and with His praise, the Compassionate *." Then he would say, "Glory be to the Lord of all the worlds, Glory be to the Lord of all the worlds, the Compassionate."
"I used to stay overnight at the Prophet's ﷺ apartment and I used to hear him when he prayed Qiyam at night saying: 'Subhan Allahi Rabil-Alamin (Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds)' for a long time, then he said: 'Subhan Allah wa bi hamdih (Glory and praise be to Allah) for a long time." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1618)

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever wakes up in the morning and says upon waking: La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in Qadir; Subhan-Allah walhamdu lillahi, wa la ilaha illallahu, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil-‘Aliyil-‘Azim (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner or associate. His is the dominion and all praise is to Him, and He is Able to do all things. Glory is to Allah, praise is to Allah, none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, Allah is the Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Supreme), then he supplicates Rabbighfirli (O Lord, forgive me), he will be forgiven.’” Walid said: “Or he said: then if he supplicated, it will be answered for him then if he stood up and performed ablution and then performed prayer, his prayer would be accepted.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3878)

“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Tahajjud at night, he would say: “Allahumma lakal-hamd, Anta nurus-samawati wal-ard wa man fihinna. Wa lakal-hamd, Anta qayyamus-samawati wal-ard wa man fihinna. Wa lakal-hamd, Anta malikus- samawati wal-ard wa man fihinna. Antal-muqaddimu wa Antal-muakhkhiru. La ilaha illa anta wa la ilaha ghairuka, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa bika (O Allah, to you is praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Truth; Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, Your saying is true, Paradise is true, the Fire is true, the Hour is true, the Prophets are true, and Muhammad ﷺ is true. O Allah, to You have I submitted, in You I believe, in You have I put my trust, to You I turn in repentance, by Your help I argue, to You I refer my case, so forgive me for my past and future sins, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly. You are the One Who brings forward and puts back. None has the right to be worshipped but You, and there is none who has the right to be worshipped other than You. And there is no power and no strength except with You.” Another chain that Ibn ʿAbbas narrated: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood during the night for Tahajjud,” and he mentioned something similar. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1355)
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for praying at midnight, he said: o Allah, be praise to Thee, Thou art the light of the heavens and the earth; and to Thee be praise; Thou are the maintainer of the heavens and the earth; and to Thee be praise, Thou art the heavens and the earth and what is between them; Thou art the truth, and Thy statement is truth; and Thy promise is the truth; and the visitation with Thee is true; and the Paradise is true and the Hell-fire is true and the Hour is true; O Allah, to Thee I turned my attention, and by Thee I disputed, and to Thee I brought forth my case, so forgive me my former and latter sins, and my secret and open sins, Thou art my deity, there is no deity but Thou. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 771)
