9. Book of Ṣalāh (1/30)
[Machine] I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting in prayer, and he left out something that he did not recite. A man said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, you left out such and such a verse." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Could you not have reminded me of it?"
[Machine] "I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reading in prayer and stumbled upon a verse. A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you left out a verse.' He said, 'Should I mention it to you?' The man said, 'I thought it had been abrogated.' He said, 'No, it has not been abrogated.'"

[Machine] Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ performed a prayer, but he became confused. When he finished, he asked his father, "Did you witness it with us?" His father replied, "Yes." He then said, "What prevented you from correcting me?"
[Machine] Abdullah, we used to greet the Prophet ﷺ and he would respond to us during prayer. But when we came from the land of Abyssinia, I greeted him and he didn't reply. He grabbed me and held me tightly until he finished praying. I said to him, "You used to respond to us." He ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah speaks whatever He wills, and He has ordained that you do not speak during prayer."
[Machine] We used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while he was in prayer, and he would respond to us before we reached the land of Habasha. So when we returned from beside Najashi, I went to him while he was praying and greeted him, but he did not respond to my greeting. He caught hold of me, both near and far, and I sat waiting for him. When he finished the prayer, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I greeted you while you were praying, and you did not respond to my greeting." He replied, "Verily, Allah speaks to me whenever He wills, and He has commanded us not to speak in prayer."

"We used to speak to each other during the prayer, saying whatever was necessary, at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, until this verse was revealed: Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawat (the prayers) especially the middle Salah (i.e. the best prayer- 'Asr). And stand before Allah with obedience (and do not speak to others during the Salah (prayers)), so we were commanded to be silent." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1219)

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we were in a state of ignorance and then Allah brought Islam to us. And indeed, some of us have dreams." He said, "That is something they find in their hearts and it does not harm them."
"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we were recently in a state of ignorance, then Allah (SWT) brought Islam. Some men among us follow omens.' He said: 'That is something that they find in their own hearts; it should not deter them from going ahead.' I said: 'And some men among us go to fortune tellers.' He said: 'Do not go to them.' He said: 'Some men among us draw lines.' He said: 'One of the Prophets used to draw lines. So whoever is in accord with his drawing of lines, then so it is.'" He said: "While I was praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man sneezed and I said: 'Yarhamuk-Allah (May Allah have mercy on you).' The people glared at me and I said: 'May my mother be bereft of me, why are you looking at me?' The people struck their hands against their thighs, and when I saw that they were telling me to be quiet, I fell silent. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, he called me. May my father and mother be ransomed for him, he neither did hit me nor rebuke me nor revile me. I have never seen a better teacher than him, before or after. He said: 'This prayer of ours is not the place for ordinary human speech, rather it is glorification and magnification of Allah (SWT), and reciting Qur'an.' Then I went out to a flock of sheep of mine that was tended by a slave woman of mine beside Uhud and Al-Jawwaniyyah, and I found that the wolf had taken one of the sheep. I am a man from the sons of Adam and I get upset as they get upset. So I slapped her. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what happened. He regarded that as a serious action on my part. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, should I set her free?' He said: 'Call her.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: 'Where is Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime?' She said: 'Above the heavens.' He said: 'And who am I?' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'She is a believer, set her free.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1218)

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ missed two units of the evening prayer (Isha') and then a person with two hands came to him and said, "Did you shorten the prayer or forget?" He replied, "None of that happened." Then he turned to the people and asked, "What did the person with two hands say?" They replied, "Yes." So he completed the remaining prayer and then he performed the prostrations of forgetfulness.

[Machine] The translation of the phrase "صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ" into English is "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us."
[Machine] I heard Abu Hurairah say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us."
"Abu Hurairah said: 'The Prophet ﷺ led us in one of the nighttime prayers.'" He said: "Abu Hurairah said: 'But I forgot (which one).' He said: 'He led us in praying two rak'ahs, then he said the taslim and went to a piece of wood that was lying in the masjid and leaned his hand on it as if he was angry. Those who were in a hurry left the masjid, and said: "The prayer has been shortened." Among the people were Abu Bakr and 'Umar but they hesitated to ask him for they revere him. Also among the people was a man with long hands who was known as Dhul-Yadain. He said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, did you forget or has the prayer been shortened? He said: I did not forget and the prayer has not been shortened. He said: Is it as Dhul-Yadain says? They said: yes. So he came and prayed what he had missed, then he said the salam, then he said the takbir and prostrated as usual or longer than that. Then he raised his head and said the takbir, and prostrated as usual or longer than that. Then he raised his head and said the takbir.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1224)

There were no horsemen among us on the day of Badr apart from al-Miqdad. I could not see any of us who was not asleep, apart from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who remained praying beneath a tree and weeping until morning. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1023)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered the mosque of Bani Amr ibn Auf, which is known as the Quba Mosque. Some men from the Ansar (helpers) greeted him. Ibn Umar said, "So I asked Suhaib, who was with him, how the Prophet ﷺ used to respond when someone greeted him while he was praying?" He said, "He used to gesture with his hand."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to Banu ‘Amr b. ‘Awf to effect reconciliation between them . in the meantime the time of prayer came and the Mu’adhdhin came to Abu Bakr and asked : Will you lead the people in prayer? I pronounce the Iqamah. He said ; Yes. So Abiu Bakr led the prayer , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came back while the people were praying. He penetrated through the rows and stood in the first row. The people clapped but Abu Bakr did not pay any attention to it during prayer. When the people clapped increasingly, he paid attention. He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a sign to him (saying); Stay at your place. Abu BAkr raised his hands and praised Allah for the commandment the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given him (to lead the people in prayer). Abu Bakr then stepped back and stood in the row. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped forward and led the prayer. When he finished the prayer, he said; Abu Bakr, what prevented you staying (at your place) when I already commented you to do so? Abu Bakr said ; it was not befitting for the son of Abu Quhafah (Abu Bakr) to lead the prayer in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said; What is the matter that I saw you clapping frequently during prayer? If anything happens to someone during prayer, he should say “Glory be to Allah,” for when he glorifies Allah. He pays attention to him. Clapping applies only to women. Abu Dawud said: This is operative in the obligatory prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 940)

"There was some fighting among Banu 'Amr bin 'Awf, and news of that reached the Prophet ﷺ. He prayed Zuhr, then he went to them to reconcile between them. Then he said to Bilal: 'O Bilal, if the time for Asr comes and I have not come back, then tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' When the time (for Asr) came, Bilal called the Adhan, then the Iqamah, then he said to Abu Bakr: 'Go forward. So Abu Bakr went forward and started to pray. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and started passing through the rows of people until he stood behind Abu Bakr, and the people clapped. Abu Bakr was such that whenever he started praying, he would never glance sideways, but when he noticed that the clapping persisted he turned around. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured to him to carry on praying. Abu Bakr praised Allah the Mighty and Sublime for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having told him to continue. Then Abu Bakr moved backward on his heels, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that, he came forward and led the people in prayer. When he completed the prayer he said: 'O Abu Bakr, when I gestured to you, what kept you from continuing (to lead the people)?' He said: 'It does not befit the son of Abu Quhafah to lead the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayer.' And he (the Prophet) said to the people: 'If you notice something (during the prayer), men should say Subhan Allah and women should clap.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 793)

We came to Jabir ibn Abdullah who was sitting in his mosque. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us in this mosque and he had a twig of date-palm of the kind of Ibn Tab. He looked and saw phlegm on the wall towards qiblah. He turned to it and scraped it with the twig. He then said: Who of you likes that Allah turns His face from him? He further said: When any of you stands for praying, Allah faces him. So he should not spit before him, nor on his right side. He should spit on his left side under his left foot. If he is in a hurry (i.e. forced to spit immediately), he should do with his cloth in this manner. He then placed the cloth on his mouth and rubbed it off. He then said: Bring perfume. A young man of the tribe stood and hurried to his house and returned with perfume in his palm. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and put it at the end of the twig. He then stained the mark of phlegm with it. Jabir said: This is the reason you use perfume in your mosques. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 485)
